No chairs but they sold beer
My freshman year of college, at the infamous Tarkio college, of the Brewer & Shipley "Tarkio Road" album. Beautiful fall afternoon, got there early, eventually we took over a nearby grassy area (park maybe) and hung out. We'd never been there so we didn't realize that general admission meant there were no chairs set up on the concrete (hockey rink) floor. Of course we didn't really care, especially when we found out the place actually served beer. Drinking age was only 18 in Nebraska back then(that was when they lowered it coz of all the vietnam vets bitchin' about bein' old enough to die, but not old enough to drink). Still wasn't much of a drinker, but it sure quenched the cotton mouth from the jays and purple microdot. Don't recall the opening too well but I vividly remember Bobby's "El Paso" and Donna Jean's "You ain't woman enough". Then it morphed into a great "Wake of the Flood" show. But, since it was a month before the album was released we didn't know all the new material that well, but what's not to like, right? After that it was pretty much one peak after another and it's likely we danced our way through the second set of archetypal jams. Have no idea how we got back to Tarkio Missouri. Probably in Danny's VW bug. Last show Danny ever saw, rest her soul.
