Grateful Dead

Am listening to this one this early morning, not because it is April 20th but because listened to the next night yesterday morning. Fact that is 4 20 comment above me did not mean anything back in the day. Everyday was 4 20 to so many of us. Side note last time I smoked any weed I got so paranoid I thought the car in front of me was following me. over 20 years now and I like it that way. To the many who do enjoy it good for you all glad we still have folks who carry on the traditions set forth so long ago. I remember when these shows were announced on the "Grateful Dead hot line" some of us were saying they made a mistake they must of meant the Spectrum, well we wrong and glad of it. Over on the archives some commenter said he thought this building might fall down around us agree 1000 percent . All of this year means so much to me because I was on tour full time and these 3 shows were on fire. I think the band was in great form in the early 80'2 and lucky to be apart of it.

In 1984, before "4 20" had any significance I was deep into touring on the east coast. We had just trucked up from the Hampton shows to the Rochester War Memorial and then over Niagara Falls Convention Center. So heading down to the 3 Philly shows Convention Center (where I live) would be a welcome break from sharing a room with 9 other ones. My sister was a student at Wharton on the Penn Campus and her quad was just a walk from the show. I purchased her a real ticket for her first show. She was ok with watching the band play for the first set. But when the 2nd set started and we were still in the concourse area she was amazed at how the concession area transformed when the music started. Little girls started spinning, we rounded a corner and the "painter" was there with his easel set up. This guy paints oil paintings during a show being inspired by the live vibe. Here he was working on a "Jerry" . I've seen him at Harrisburg's City Island too working on a "Brent". My sister was familiar with most of the songs played that night except for the drumz > space. As I am sitting here in the 21st century typing this, GD Radio is playing back the show for me. Thank you for the continuing Good Times. Cheers ! Cubby
