Awesome show. Jack>Deep Elem! There were some large water fountains by the vunue and we had a big drum circle going. There were these narc cops dressed in their swat type gear and ear com devices who busted into the middle of our large drum circle thinking something illegal was going on. The look on their faces. They kind of came in spun around and realized nothing more was going on than drumming. The flak jackets, $300, the army boots, $90, the ear com devices, who knows how much, the look on their faces, priceless.Dougles
First Show
Age 13 - saw with my best friend and got 'ditched' by the neighbor that was supposed to keep on eye on us in hte first 10 minutes! Loved the Jack opener. Jerry had long ass dark hair and beard then - wow. What a night !
a day at Seattle Center
Yeah, I remember the circle drumming...amidst the fountains and amusement park atmosphere. Earlier that day there was a big photo gig and loads of female models dressed to the Ts.
We thought we had arrived in Heaven. Before a Dead Show? Crazy days.

I recall hundreds of people banging on the walls and drumming in the hall after the first set and when the band came back for the second set Bill and Mickey laid down the same beat that the throng had produced collectively during the break - pure magic where you realize how much the audience and the band are one.

My wife's first show
I'd seen the boyz several times by '83, but I was getting pretty heavy with my girlfriend at the time (still going strong after 23+ years married). She'd never seen 'em. I took her, we found some mushrooms, and I remember the really nice scene outside the Seattle Center (by the way, the show was at the Coliseum, not the stadium). Decent enough show, but most of it wasn't that great, probably because...
I mostly remember being bummed that she just didn't get it. I took her a few more times over the years, but improvisation just wasn't her cup 'o tea and she never really loved a Dead show. Mostly it was something I did with my other friends. Too bad, but not all THAT bad. I remember she really dug the Baby Blue encore.
It was bad
This was my 4th show and I took a friend to the show because I had told her how great they were. At this show they were not, in fact they were terrible IMO. Weir did his best to try to get the band going but he just could not get the rest of the guys in gear.
There were some deadheads in the outside halls beating their drums and trying to be... whatever....but the show was sad and Jerry was in the depths of his hard drug abyss and it showed.
My First
My friend took me to my first show, I was 15, and all I knew was Truckin' and Casey Jones. My friend introduced me to some folks before the show and I thought, "This is where I belong!" Then I was inside, tripping, dancing, and was instantly addicted. By Spring of '84 I was on the East Coast. What a long strange trip its been indeed!
Loved this year
I recall the drumming going out to the street after the show also. Deep elem. great uncle johns I loved the tour threw the great north west. On the way to the Portland show we stopped off at the cougar reservoir hot springs if memory serves me rite They were off the main route up north. just off the main highway route 126? that was the route off the main highway i think. Anyway doesn't matter Loved everything about the days before invasions of people not wanting to see the band just there to make a buck. That's why money is the root of all evil I guess
