To call it a labor of love would be an understatement. Sunshine Daydream producer Sam Field, constricted by budget limitations and a skeleton crew (not to mention that sweltering heat), managed to not only capture what might be the Grateful Dead's opus but also the essence of their whole scene. And then he had to wait patiently (as did you) for 40 years until the elements aligned to bring you this very special release.

From one-of-a-kind t-shirts to custom-ordered backdrops for the Grateful Dead at the Greek, Courtenay Pollock's unique tie-dyes literally and figuratively made the scene in the 70s and 80s. So entranced were we by his "origami on cloth," we enlisted him to bring symmetry to our Sunshine Daydream box. Get to know the extraordinary artist in this exclusive video and view some of his greatest and latest creations in the gallery below.

Photographer Jay Blakesberg has been shooting the Grateful Dead since the late ’70s, and has even picked up the pace in the years following Garcia’s passing. Though he shoots album covers for many bands and works regularly for Rolling Stone and other magazines, he always makes time to shoot The Dead and their many offshoots—he’s been the de facto chronicler of Phil Lesh & Friends since that ever-evolving unit got its start in 1998.

When I catch up with soft-spoken RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti for our Dead.net interview, he's only been home for a couple of days, after playing with the Dead at the Penn State concert for Obama (along with the Allman Bros.), and he's just a few days away from rehearsals before RatDog's fall East Coast tour, which begins in Long Island on October 30 and goes through to a November 22 finale in Florida. He's a busy guy right now, but he wouldn't want it any other way.
