First Exposure
It was a Be In. My aunt dragged a bunch of us down to this new happening event. The band was playing on a flatbed truck and I walked up to check them out. Jerry had rainbow pants on. There was all kinds of wacky stuff going on as this was the beginning of the summer of love. Guru Ginsburg and body painting funny smells in the air flower power, pranksters and Hells Angels. Just the place for an eight year old to feel right at home. My big brother and cousin got rides home on choppers from two Hells Angels I was so jealous; my parents were furious.
Free Concert in El Camino Park, June '67
I got taken to the El Camino free show. A Picnic with Granny and the Folks, My sisters would have been babies, and I was about 4, but not quite. Of course, I can't remember the scene, but there are some B&W snapshots taken from our blanket, and one is a lovely double exposure with me pouncing the photographer, while the truck with the band playing makes the background... Maybe 5 shots in all, and though I don't recall seeing Jerry in them...Phil, Pig, Bobby, and Billy are.
I have heard a 1st hand account claiming The Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger was seen freely wandering around checking out the scene, and everybody was leaving him alone.
The same source also heard rumors about The Palo Alto Police taking up a secret position on some nearby rooftops to spy with telephoto lens movie film on the goings on.
The site was recently dug up completely to make a water storage facility, and the surface is still unlandscaped at this writing.
