My first show. We got there
My first show. We got there early and watched them set up the Wall of Sound system and then the Dead came out and did a lengthy sound check with a bunch of us sitting on the floor grooving. My guitar player friend got Jerry to give him a guitar pick. They kicked us out to get ready for the show and then let us back in for a rockin' show. Dick's Vol. 19. Dark Star - Mind Left Body Jam and lots of fine Wake of the Flood goodies. I was hooked.
My First Show
The year before, I'd gone off from Tulsa to college near Chicago. My best freind went to Boston U and came home with tapes he and a buddy made from Boston Music Hall, and I was hooked. Next year I was at OU and led a major wave of my dorm buddies to this show. It seemed like they played every song in their book. There was point in the Morning Dew where I was standing and it seems many around me were not. Jerry, flooded in red light peak of the song, hit a note that pierced my heart. I've seen at least one Dead show pretty much every year since. The next year, I moved to a college in Californa and got to see 4 of the 5 shows where they shot the Grateful Dead Movie, and saw them for free in Golden Gate Park.
