    DEAD COVERS PROJECT 2018

It's about that time to break out the banjo, gather up the family band, and let your creativity flow, visually and vocally. The DEAD COVERS PROJECT returns in 2018! We will be featuring selections on Grateful Dead properties all February long but you can send in your submissions as soon as January 1st. Simply upload your video to YouTube, tag it "DeadCoversProject," and we'll make it available to view on the band's official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/gratefuldead in February.

Dead Covers Project - "Friend Of The Devil"
I'm a singer/songwriter/bassist in NYC and I love covering the Dead. My husband Jeff (on guitar and backup vocals here, wearing his "Grateful Dude" shirt) has been a Deadhead for nearly 40 years and has covered their music for nearly that long. We've been introducing more and more Dead into our sets. This video also features our friend Tony Calabro on mandolin. If you dig our cover of "Friend Of The Devil," I hope you'll check out my site over at www.thatgolda.com. Thanks!

Dead Covers Project - To Lay Me Down
This is Sugar Lime Blues 3rd time here - we just adore the Dead & it's so great to check out everyone's contributions each year. I was fortunate to see the Dead play this once in '88 at Irvine Meadows - thanks to Cindy Munson for turning me on to the band.

Hello people,I'm not sure of the rules for entering the dead covers project. Can it be any song that any member covered for example Bob Weir playing Dylan's Masters Of War? How about any song that Dead And Company plays? Ratdog? Pretty sure I've seen JGB covers that the Grateful Dead never played. Thank you. Joe

My understanding is you can cover any song the Grateful Dead has played in concert. Two years ago my band Sugar Lime Blue submitted our version of Little Sadie which got a little flack for not being a Dead song but the Dead did play it seven times (there's even a video for an '80's take) - its just not well known. The next year we covered Morning Dew which I believe they played a few more times then seven.

...looong time lurker! Had to finally register to chime in about the Dead Covers Project. Portland filmmaker Ian Fowler made a video of my band's performance of Bird Song at a show in November in NYC. We've collaborated on a few things before, but this work he's done is really beautiful and I wanted to share it as much as I can. I hope you can hear and see how much we love the song, and how much we love the Dead (despite my botching the lyric -- twice!) Apologies Hunter! https://youtu.be/qykSjcd3uzs

This is Clare Maloney, who sings backup (and some leads) with my band in NYC (David Bryan and Friends). SHE'S AWESOME, Y'ALL! I hope some of you will check this out. Oh, and on keys, Mr. Waynard Schellar, who has played onstage with Big Bad Bobby Weir before. ;-) Cheers!

Posted my Dead Covers Project Video today and it says it’s blocked by UMPG :( makes me sad :( https://youtu.be/foZn5tKANuQ How can I post a Dead Covers Project to youtube when it is being blocked by youtube?

Universal Music Publishing Group is big on blocking anything by the Eagles on youtube but I don't think they have any rights to Ice Nine or the Grateful Dead. I'd contest it. Nope - I'm wrong - The Dead signed over their catalog to UMPG in 2014 but I don't believe they have been enforcing this on Youtube. It would suck if they did. Another win for Corporate Capitalism.

HippieGirlAnna -- That's so bizarre. Why YOUR video? there are by now literally thousands of these cover videos on youtube. Are they slowly going to start chipping away at them? Someone from the Dead office should call them up and let them know to leave these alone!!

After getting hit with TWO (Count 'em -2) Category 5 Hurricanes in a 2 week period and enduring over 92 days without power, it felt particularly good to get everything plugged back in and make sure it worked. Hope you like the result.

It seems to be blocked in the US by copyright. Which country are you in?Thanks

FWIW, seven of my videos are labeled as 'containing copyrighted content' but none of them are blocked. Do you have any 'strikes' for other videos? I'm in the US Virgin islands. It's ALMOST like the USA.

Here's my contribution for 2018...back at the piano this year for "Unbroken Chain" written by Phil Lesh and Bobby Petersen and originally recorded for the 1974 album From the Mars Hotel but not played live by the Grateful Dead until 1995. Thanks for listening!
