Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have tunes spanning 17 years of Grateful Dead history, some excellent Summer Dead tunes.
Our first selection is from 7/16/72 at Dillon Stadium in Hartford, the first Grateful Dead show after Pigpen's final Dead show on 6/17/72, the start of a new era for the Grateful Dead. From this show, we have the big second set jam of Truckin'>The Other One>He's Gone>The Other One>Looks Like Rain.
From nine years later in Kansas City, we have the start of the second set on 7/7/81, featuring Man Smart, Woman Smarter, Candyman, Estimated Prophet>Eyes Of The World. Man Smart had debuted just a few days earlier, on 7/2/81 in Houston. I'm a big fan of slight tweaks in song position, so this second set Candyman is a nice addition to the pre-Drums sequence.
Our final selection this week is from the second night of a two night run at RFK Stadium on 7/13/89, and from this show we have the start of the second set, featuring He's Gone>Looks Like Rain>Terrapin Station. It was a huge surprise to the audience when they opened their second set with He's Gone, a rarity.
Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to join us here next week.
