30 Days of Dead
It's a Dead Head's most wonderful time of the year! Welcome to another 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, one for every day of the month, selected by archivist and producer David Lemieux. The tracks are yours, 100% free gua-ran-teed, but the real fun is taking part in the challenge for the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Those of you who know what to do, feel free to skip right on ahead. For those of you who need a refresher, here's the drill:
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70s show? Each day we'll post a song from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? If you think you know, lob your answer in and you just might find yourself taking home our daily prize of a 2025 Grateful Dead wall calendar or the grand prize – a copy of limited, numbered, FRIEND OF THE DEVILS: APRIL '78 boxed set!
OK, it wasn't all that hard but I'd like to think I'm getting better at this, lol. Some very unique sounds in the space going into Truckin'.
Cheers
Now they're just fuckin' with us
Now I need someone to tell me they're not eliminating correct answers, this is twice...
Any self-respecting Head who had a cassette player in the 1980’s had a copy of this show. The HEY BOBBY, PLAY CHINA CAT banter at the beginning of set II is classic. I was a camp counselor the summer of ‘81 and I used to play this show (one of the first tapes I ever had and before I had ever seen the band) for my 13 year old campers and they loved it. The little Jerry riff in the China Cat intro still sounds as exciting now as it did oh so many years ago
This has to be a joke. Pittsburg added the "h" in 1911, and I don't believe the GOGD played Pittsburg before 1911. If any can prove to me that this show was played in "Pittsburg", I will believe it. Anyone have a ticket stub to prove this? Everywhere I've looked, it's "Pittsburgh". TPTB are simply wrong. Once again, somebody put down the pipe too late before inputting this answer. Merry Pranksters seem to be running the show this year, but I'm still enjoying the ride.
