We can't help it, really - for we, like you, are Grateful Dead fans above all else. Just like you, we've spent countless hours debating the merits of show over show, year over year. We've kept a watchful eye on your wish-lists and carefully considered how to make - excuse the cliché - your dreams come true.     ALL MUSIC EDITION
    Doesn't appear to be limited edition. This might be worth while to order I can keep the Ltd edition box set intact and order the book from Amazon on April 11th and I'll basically just have an unnumbered box set. And this way I'll keep the AME for travel purposes. Not a bad idea I'll sleep on it. Even though I have the E72 box I have 15 separate shows from E72 and 11 from 30 TATS. The reason I do it because I keep the DEAD SETS tucked away in the closet & pulling them out is a real hassle. I keep separate shows on the CD shelf. I'm such a DeadHead.

    All Music Edition - Close, but no cigar
    As well intentioned as the All Music Edition is, it just doesn't go far enough. It's painfully obvious that the people who put together this box set underestimated demand to an absurd degree, and by doing so, have fostered the creation of an eBay "scalper's market" for this set. By offering only a bare bones All Music Edition as a consolation prize for the potentially thousands of Deadheads who were shut out, they have -- unwittingly??? -- rewarded eBay scalpers. Seriously, why not simply press up another 5-10,000 box sets? They don't have to be individually numbered, but they should contain everything that was in the original box. Only people who bought the set not for the music but to make a quick buck would have any reason to complain. I don't know why Rhino/GDP are going out of their way to help eBay scalpers, first by restricting supply of the box sets to only a fraction of the demand, and then by going out of their way to preserve the exclusivity of the original box set release. And for those who are now applauding this new release by saying its "all amount the music" -- well, if that were true, then they'd be pressing up more of the original box, not preserving its exclusivity so eBay scaplers can continue to profit.

    Making this music available to everyone was the right thing to do. I coudnt' imagine being a loyal fan and customer of this site and missing out on such a thing. I bought the all music edition of Europe 72 and am happy to have it. Most of us know that the streamer trunk for that box is still on ebay for usually around 800 dollars, it IS collectible, and I would love to have one, just not at that price. This box will still be collectible but the music which is what it is really all about should be available to everyone. I mean, how could you keep true fans from being able to buy these shows which we have waited for for so long. Missing out on FW is probably my biggest regret, if I could only go back to that release date! That is an example where the music is not available and I think dead.net regrets how they worded that release, at this point they really cannot reissue that music which should be available to fans like myself who get so much joy from it. Now I have to admit the collection piece does add a bit of enjoyment for me. Take Dave's Picks for example. There are several I could have passed on and wouldn't be in my "collection" now if they were not limited and I could hop on here and order them anytime. But now I HAVE to have them all! Can't miss out! It has become something I really enjoy and has me checking this site at least once a day waiting for the next announcement. I do find it funny how some of the aftermarket has shaken out. I don't know if people are really paying 600 for FW, but that is simply too much. I hold the second 90 box in MUCH higher regard than the first. I mean, it is the best sound quality GD music available, period. They used 2 track for the first 90 box (shamefully) yet it goes for around 600 on ebay while the latter is just above the original price tag. The 77 winterland box is crazy high and the 73 box is around the original price? With all the other 77 music available? Anyway, I look forward to these releases so very much. I will be checking in everyday listening to the regulars ramble on here once the smoke clears from this. Everyone should be happy about what is taking place here. The music is what matters and music this good shouldn't be only for a select few.

    Hey minas, I called 'em scalpers
    Don't give a crap about them, what they do, or what they're called. Not saying I wish them good or ill, or what they do is ok or not. Just that they take the risk if they're going to buy up 10 copies and try to make a mint off them. So I don't feel sorry for them if they lose out on making big bucks due to more reissues. tough shit. If they do buy up tons of copies with the intent to make bank, and a few regulars here lose out on getting a copy at a more reasonable cost because of them, and then get no chance to buy a reissue at the normal price but have to pay a highly bumped rate that they may not be able to afford, sure it's legal. But I'd rather those here (and those longtime deadheads who don't hang out here all the time to catch the release on time but will want this box set) get more of a chance than a few days to buy this sparkler. I got mine in time, but that's not all that matters. Hell, I could always buy used copies at Amoeba in the past, ebay just takes away the geography problem. I bought many of my early Dick's Picks at used record stores when they first came out. Now you don't see them there much. "nobody here is losing opportunities at buying Dead sets that they didn't already pass up on" --maybe nobody here for the last few days, but there's tons of fans who may not hang out here enough to catch the 3 day sellout. So, it's great that they're making more available at the normal retail price, is my point. The resellers will get their chance, but I don't see any reason to give it to them after 3 days. Don't need a lecture on capitalism.

    When people stop calling honest collectors scalpers and questioning their "Deadness" I'll stop using Trump as a noun/adj. Minas how right you are. There are very few people who don't collect something and ebay is the greatest thing sinced sliced bread. I collect Zappa records from all over the world. 20 years ago it was a lot harder and no I don't feel ripped off or scalped when I pay $150 For a used record

    It's really about the music
    Now that precedent has been set, how about All Music editions of other sold out boxes such as FW69 which is many hundreds of dollars if purchased on eBay? Perhaps Rhino could have considered selling unlimited editions of the four GSTL concerts for $30-35 apiece once the box sold out so that all could share in the music for about the same price, but those that purchased the limited edition box would have something a little different and special for having struggled through the original purchasing process.

    It always amuses me that 1) people here liken the resale marketers to scalpers (not even close, and completely legal), 2) those same people have no clue that the resellers are an essential element to keeping the vault release program viable, which is good for all of us who want to continue having new Dead CDs available, and 3) not so amusing, but ironic that the "anti-scalper" posters are usually pretty nasty about it. They hope the "scalpers" get screwed, and seem to take it personally that a man or woman should try to profit from collector's items. Yet they will accuse those free market capitalists of being somehow "un-Dead-like". As if they've broken some code of conduct of the Grateful Dead Universe. And I guarantee while those resellers are going about their LEGAL activities, there are plenty of people criticizing them who, I am sure, must have illegally copied a Dead release for a buddy. Guranteed. Well listen up - nobody here is losing opportunities at buying Dead sets that they didn't already pass up on. Buy a Dave's Picks subscription if you don't want to miss out. This new set was available for a few days and has an All Music Edition, so it's here for all. You take away the eBay resellers, and Rhino can't offer as much product throughout the year. Period. And shame on anyone wishing ill will to their brothers who are stimulating the vault market, and doing it legally. You miss Cal Ripken's rookie card, should Topps and Fleer start reprinting them? Of course not. What's discouraging about the whole thing is the sense of entitlement I hear in these complaints. You're not entitled to anything - go work for it. If you were hospitalized or otherwise unable to get a certain release with the system being what it is, I'm truly sorry. I missed FW 1969 and E72 because I kept putting off purchasing until it was too late, and DaP 12 because I was in the hospital, and it sold out in 24 hours. Next time I bought the subscription. I went and got it. If you're cheering for resellers to fail, that's just nasty, shameful ill-will. No, I'm not a reseller, but clearly they're a big part of the Rhino marketing scheme, and they play a significant role in keeping us stocked with new Dead music.

If it ain't got The Swing. Couldn't agree more, Bob. But I suspect The Swing might be worth more as a chip to be cashed in at a later date. There are so many great shows in the cache.. you could almost throw a dart at the stack, call it Dave's Picks 23 and that would be enough to keep our interest. There is such a density of great shows and recordings in what was returned. Happy days.

I store my Grateful Dead in multiple places on multiple mediums. First, my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, with 32 GB internal memory and 128 GB SD card. I put the officially released shows in chronological order, so 30 Trips Around The Sun 1965 is first in line; then 30 Trips 1967, Road Trips '68 and so on. I end at The Closing of Winterland. Next come the soundboards, also listed in chronological order. I have around 80 from 1969 - 1978. On my old cell phone, I store the 80s and 90s. Same deal, chronological order. I listen to my CDs a lot too. They're placed in generic white CD sleeves, because this is the only way to prevent scratches. I store them in 30 Trips Around The Sun boxes (5 in all). In one box I have E72 with other '72 stuff: Rockin' The Rhein, Hundred Year Hall, Steppin' Out, Sunshine Daydream, and Houston 11-18-1972, along with Fillmore West Complete and Fillmore East 2-11-69; Dick's Picks gets its own box; Winterland 1973, Winterland June 1977, May 1977, May 1977 TOO, and July 1978 get their own box; Road Trips and 30 Trips Around The Sun get a box mixed with the first half of the official multi-track shows (Live Dead, Skull F@#k, Ladies & Gentlemen, Cow Palace, Movie Soundtrack, Closing Of Winterland, etc); and Dave's Picks gets its own box, along with the remaining multi-track official releases. I keep the empty CD covers stored on the shelves of the entertainment center, along with the 30 Trips crates (each with a different side facing out, so you catch all of the artwork and everyone's name). All of the box sets are there as well, including the Europe '72 Steamer trunk with dual Fillmore West bookends. It seems a bit excessive now that I've written it all down....

What a great High Time and Cosmic Charlie on that show along with everything else... I remember getting the tape back in 88!!! The whole show is great as well as the sound quality!!! Good call..

Vguy the only complaint I have had was that the recent multi track digital only releases have distortion on em on due to maybe over mastering them. I bought the 96 and 99 archival shows and both suffer from it. the 96 show sounded ok when I burned a cd and put it in the car but when I listen to em on my earbuds they are kinda booming loud with distortion. we need Paul Languedoc back I miss him so much.

All of the Dave's Picks I have Heard are very good sound quality. I guess that some of that is due to new technology. I am glad that they keep releasing new old stock material. I wouldn't mind a new 1976 release like 6/24/76. I was at 6/22/76, and I got seats for the third row plus some orange blotter, a soda they used to make in Philly. The Tower Theater is a great place for a show, The Dead only played there once. They played 4 nights in a row. Just being able to see them so close was awesome. Sure, I would like 6/22 but 6/24 seems to be more popular. Have a Grate weekend!!

I did not know McCartney was into pot that far along in his career. I am happy to hear he likes it. For some reason I got the impression he wasn't crazy about it after his experience with the Beatles. Download Seris 76 is great.

When Heather Mills was taking lots of his cash in divorce she stated in court all Paul likes to do is smoke reefer at home. He has been a huge fan since Dylan first turned the Fabs on back in '65 or so. Dylan thought the refrain in I Want to Hold your Hand was "I get High!" The lyric is "I can't hide!"He's been in trouble for it many many times, but being Paul, it never is too big a deal.

Ween just tore through my state, headlining Red Rocks last Weds then tearing up the grand old Ogden Theater Thurs and Fri. I was second row, basically right behind my friend who was pressed against the stage, directly in front of Dean Ween the lead guitarist, for the first Ogden show. Not only was this concert a total blast, it showed how far they have come from a couple of idiots in their apartment making four-tracks to becoming a world-class five piece ensemble. If you're on here yakking about shit like how you store your cd's (no offense, I like to keep mine on the floor of my car) you've got some time on your hands. Get on youtube and check out some of the following: Piss Up a Rope Ocean Man Monique the Freak Gabrielle Bananas and Blow If they don't make you laugh, they'll make you smile. ;-p

Said McCartney owned a house further down the road for awhile. I suppose he used it to escape the dreary winters in England at times. Makes you wonder about the line - JoJo left his home in Tucson Arizona, for some California grass...

That would be a great gig. We haven't heard from Dave in awhile. Dick Latvala probably did well too,He loved the Dead. I read an interview with Dick that a lot of the soundboards are on cassettes. Have a good day, everyone.

Someone has to do it. I went with Dick's Picks 23 this morning. Just fabulous - never gets old. I'd forgotten how prominent Keith's piano is on this release. He's so fluid on Playing in the Band during this period. Trying to recall if all of the two-tracks from the latter half of '72 are like this. Europe '72 is real hit or miss with his presence in the mix. Not sure how that happened, given the fact that they're all sourced from multi-track masters, but it did. By '73 he's largely into the Fender Rhodes, which is also fantastic, but quite a different sensation than the grand piano. Perhaps I'll go on a 2nd half '72 binge. I wasn't heavy into the Dead when any of them were released, so I haven't studied any particular show from this period too heavily (like one would do when, say, there's a new Dave's Picks release; there's also the "don't wear out the novelty of these shows" aspect to it). As it's looking like a Summer / Fall box set isn't imminent, I should really just go mad with DP 11, 23, 36, DaP 11, and Sunshine Daydream. Plus some good soundboards. I could, in effect extend my PhD from Europe '72 to the entire year.

Deaner sure as hell does shred it! Man, has he gotten to be a solid rock guitarist. He still plays that modded red Strat he's played forever. His amp is a no-name half stack with at least two channels. I think it might be a Van Halen 5150 head; I can't be sure, because whatever it is, he's had the nameplate removed. But it is an amazing rock tone, quite a bit of gain but not oversaturated and remarkably quiet and clean, unless he pushes it. When those guys started they were crap. They had all the wit and attitude but no chops; boy, has that changed. Aaron, er, Gene is one hell of a singer. He pulls off all those different voices live. Really, really good... Dean still looks the same. Gene looks 60. He's gained back a ton of weight (which, unlike Jerry, means he's sober) and his hair is completely white and nearly gone. He smoked a couple cigarettes on stage and though he did sip from a red Solo cup he didn't appear intoxicated. Dean constantly lit one Marlboro after another and smoked the shit out them between every song, leaving them burn in a big white ashtray atop his amp. He kept chugging from two red Solo cups that he wisely kept on the rug. I'm sure somebody, maybe him, once shorted out his amp head from a spilled drink. Fellas don't put liquids on your amp. Dean just reeked of rock-star cool. He looked like Keith Richards used to like he'd been up an extra day or two. He didn't talk much except to bark stuff at the audience once in awhile. The other thing was, most bands play on a nice big, cool-looking Persian rug. Ween played on a shitty piece of brown carpet that looked like it was torn out of a college apartment, all stained with bong water and beer. And most of them were barefoot on that nasty thing. How appropriate.

How can you listen to this without smiling in amazement. Only time ever done and Fire on the Mountain genesis!!! About to listen to it again coming out of Eyes of the World!! I love the whole month of June 1976 just so unique!!! 6/29/76 my favorite especially the Mission in the Rain!!

Several years back a friend of mine introduced me to "Francis The Mute" for the first time and that album just blew my mind. Immediately hooked. Wish they would tour again. Palette cleanser indeed.

Ok V-Man, the way I see it you owe me 30 bucks. I went to that link and liked it a lot. Side stepped to LivePhish and downloaded all 3 Chicago shows. It's all your fault, that's my story to the wife and I'm sticking with it. Nice heads up.
