- johnman14 years 5 months agomebbejust mebbe.......they should do more west coast shows as a reminder, kinda like training...a refresher as it were. apparently complacency has set in. of course, my opinion is somewhat biased I suppose...heeheee!
- marye14 years 5 months agoyeahsounds just like Shoreline last year, which was un-bleeping-believable in its ineptitude and I'm sure had Bill spinning in his grave.
- JackstrawfromC…14 years 5 months agoIt never ceases to amaze meWhen event organizers get blind-sided and then overwhelmed by GD crowds. Any place in California especially should know how to handle a GD crowd. How long have the GD and their offshoot bands been playing in Cali?? Come on! The crowd is huge, a large chunk of them are ticketless and they show up early even a day early. If you aren't ready for that phenomenon, there is going to be big trouble. @Althea:
I'm interested in volunteering at this festival, I have tried twice now to email info@mountainairefestival.com
and have even tried calling once, to no avail. (rhyme not intended but that's sweet how that worked out.)
I have scoured both furthur's and the venue's websites and came out empty-handed.
Anyone with information pertaining to volunteer opportunities, please help, information is demanded (okay that one I actually had to think about)!
much gratitude.
the first rhyme was email/avail to clarify, how it looked before I posted it made more sense. Yea i'm a dork.
Got my ticket...I'm soooo excited!!
Has anyone been to Angels Camp before? What are some non-essentials I would probably need to bring but probably wouldn't think of? I haven't been camping out in years...I NEED HELP!
I would recommend bringing a mini flashlight that fits in your pocket, for sure. Also, a roll of toilet paper is handy when there is none left. Breakfast granola bars for a quick snack. Pepto-Bismol tablets, just in case. Flip-flops for the shower. Sunblock for the day, lots of warm clothes for at night. Chocolate candy. I usually make a long check list ahead of time, and use that when I pack the car.
you'll be able to hire safari style tents with electricty/AC, beds, linens and pillows.... try the furthur site for a link to all the details.
Dang I didn't see anything like that at Rothbury. That sure would have beat what we were staying in!

The last time, 1987, we went to Mountain Aire, it was parking lot camping. Mostly dirt, some pavement, a few trees. Park your car, set your tent next to it and away we go.The google maps street view of Angels Camp at 101 Frogtown Road is probably from about four years ago, and it still seems pretty wide open( NO SHADE) and the last couple of years have been scorchers in Angels Camp on May 28 (98,56), 29(98,55), 30(97,56) so take that as you will. As To the other facilities on site, I have no clue as the last time we only saw the show and then went out to see the sunrise and came back for the next show and then drove back to Santa Cruz.
As to something to bring that you might not think you need
Bring some head gear , with a wide brim.

I can tell you from past festivals...it is really hot during the day and chilly at night. I do remember chewing dirt a couple of times from the parking lot as well. It is rather small place, meaning it's all in one area, and it should be easy to find long lost friends. In fact, I'm planning on seeing all my long lost family members at this show!
The best suggestion I can say to those coming from a long way out of town is this....after the weekend, Memorial Day weekend is over, and since the crowds will be down, it's the absolute perfect time to go and see the best place in the whole entire world.....YOSEMITE. It's only a little adventure away, and a place you don't want to miss. Who knows maybe we'll see you on top of El Capitan on Wednesday ;-)

New Furthur Festival website up with lots of juicy information. Can't wait for this one, baby!
Oh man... check out the new site. One album one set!! 3 sets per night. This is truly going to be the shit. Terrapin Flyer here I come. This will be the first time for me or my fellow heads, where I can see the set list for both nights. Might I add 3 sets a night. I would never like to see a set list before a show, but what the hell its 2010 and I still get to see my HEROS play again . I cant wait!!! Mary I hope to see you there...

For any of you going to Angels Camp & camping, there's RV hookups @ the Sonora County fairgrounds. It's a nice place & not too far from Angels Camp. Looks like from Furthur's website, you'd need a car to bring into Mt.Aire. (commute if you can-it's more green) If anyone knows how to post this on philzone, please do so.....have fun
Previously I posted that for the last three years the temperatures at Angels Camp for the May 28 - 31 period were around 98 for the high and 56 for the low.The current weather pattern has lower temps for this Festival Weekend
Friday is currently forecast for 85 high and 42 low
As it is still two weeks away this forecast is mostly based on historical data
and the current trend.

Seems to be the theme EVERYWHERE this spring!!!
BTW ... I am so jealous .. I want to be at FF!!!

does anyone know if the camp sites are given out by car or by person. I will be driving up to the show and our car will have 3 or 4 of us in it. Will we be given 1 camp site for all of us in the car or will each person with a ticket recieve a site or will we atleast recieve a bigger site that will fit all of our tents???
Almost positive that you get one camping spot per vehicle, it very un-green but I guess if you want more camping space you got to bring multiple vehicles.
yeah I think your right.....and yeah it's not very green. I don't want to drive 2 cars, but we will have to if thats the case. 1 camp site wont fit all of us and our 3 tents I'm sure???

Now about Camping/Parking spaces
this is a county fairgrounds.
Some paved, mostly dirt
No lined spots
They will park you or most
likely we'll park ourselves
and leave what room we need around the vehicles
at least that's what happened in '87.

For the heads who were lucky enough to be there in 99 and or 87 I was just wondering if you remembered there being any lawn or non dirt/pavement camping. Like most of you I was planning on arriving as early as possible but if it is just dirt and pavement camping does it really matter? Also I know they say no open flames but what if you bring an electric hot plate that plugs into your car? Love to see that people are road trippin across the country for this...getting so excited!
Gr8tfulBrad where did you buy an eletric hot plate that plugs into your car ? I have been looking everywhere for one. Would love to bring one of those to the show.

my weather report reads about 10 degrees cooler for the low. Our elevation here in Sonoma County is 164 feet, and the low has been about 44 to 47 degrees. Angels Camp elevation is 1,484 feet. When I check the weather report for Angels Camp, I get the weather for Sacramento, (closer to sea level) which is what your report reads like, scott1129. I check the weather for Laytonville, because that is at a higher elevation (Rattlesnake summit is at 1,700 feet), and I think that might be more accurate. I plan on dressing for winter nights at this event. Just hope it don't rain...
morning smiles to everyone.....I used to post here years ago.......thought it would be the place to search for a kind person to give my sister and I a ride to the Festcoming from San Fran area
will pay for all gas/tolls/munchies etc...-or instead, will buy your ticket!
thanks so much
weather looks great!
does anyone know if you can still camp Sunday night at the fest? or what time you must be out?
thanks so much !
Thats great man.....I'm going on those links right now. Thanks Gr8tfulBrad...now I can have a morning cup of java .
Have a great show(s)
seems to me those would be very useful products in many situations (e.g. for the disaster kit here in Earthquake Country), so I appreciate the tip.

Robert Hunter/Jerry Garcia
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near, as it were your own?
It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken
Perhaps they're better left unsung
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air
Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of man
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go, no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone
Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow
You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall, you fall alone
If you should stand, then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way, I would take you home
This is our family festival
Let's bring the sunshine
PEACE
