"Weekend In The Valley 87" Last Night
By the time Sunday rolled around, I was pretty much blown away by the whole experience. Great times were had by everyone I was with.
I don't remember much about this show except that we had decent pavillion seats on the Phil side. This show seemed laid back at the time but alas, I've never heard recordings of any type from this show. I do remember the crowd clapping the NFA beat all the way back to the lot afterwards and after perfect weather all weekend, after the third show, it finally clouded up sort of like the sunsetting after a perfect 3 day long summer afternoon.
I would soooo love crisp low gen SBDs or AUDs from this run that it's at the very top of my priority list. I've heard less than great sounding tapes from the first night, fairly decent AUD tapes of the middle show and have never seen a recording circulate from the third night. Message me if anyone has these.
My second show
Hook, line and wandering wizard....er....um.....I mean sinker:) What a fabulous day this was. Walked around all day checking everything out and rationing my cheese popcorn (I have not eaten cheese popcorn since by the way) and "getting ready" for the show. I found some pink sungalsses and I proudly wore them. I had no sun lotion and was already burnt to a crisp. I was in the front area and center portion of the lawn and I remember as if it were yesterday this lovely girl to the left of me blowing bubbles and smiling at me. The drums rocked my world and so did everything else. I remember the sun just frying up the back of my neck so bad. And to top things off me and my buddy had to go to work after the show lol. How I drove home I do not know but we made it and went to work. The boss came in and said I looked a little burnt and I just remember laughing a whole lot. The atmosphere of these shows was perfect for me. I was in Heaven. I did not even know any of their songs yet. I just knew that I never wanted it to end.....ever......
What?
"If you don't like where the shoes that fit are leading you. . . . Take them off and go barefoot." and "If you don't know where you are going. . . . then you can't possibly be lost." I left my shoes in the city and gave my watch to a business man. . . I told Althea I was feeling lost, lacking for some direction. The Valley yeah it was one of my very favorite venues. I just can't say enough about how incredible these particular shows were, It was one of the highest highs in the music that I had bore witness too. I truly believe that all who were there were blessed by the experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good times
It was all good my freinds.Just letting go and having a grand time .that's what it's about.Peace
Quinn the Eskimo. Yeah, I
Quinn the Eskimo. Yeah, I remember now.
I remember the Quinn
Danced out sittin on my butt
way up on the hill
grooving backn forth
no freakin way
A little late
We came in the back entrance with Todd during Hell, I remember Brent from these days, he was smokin' hot. All the songs seemed to be written with him in mind.
My favorite show of alltime that I saw Live......
06-27-1987 Last show , day show , great pre-show day trip to Milwaukee. Then we got back and our tickets were on the Jerry side (right facing stage) about row 12 where the first aisle midfront is. I was dancing fullbore to about the second or third song alone in the wide walkway/ aisle and Jerry was looking right at me with a long gaze a few times and was smiling. Nice feeling and made me realize everything WAS going to be alright.
Planted on the Hillside
It was your typical AlpineValley .East meets West on neutral ground and the music just happens. My soul was planted on the hill this Sunday during the stirring Morning Dew ! I literally had to pick my legs up and pull on them to keep from being put under the ground that day. One of the many amazing experiences I had with my BAND.
Mighty Quinn!
After getting out of the medical tent (got thrown over the wall and broke my wrist), I remember the lightning that was striking behind the stage during Quinn the Eskimo...wow!!! (unless it was the goony-birds) Anyway, that tour was killer! Riverbend, Akron etc.....great memeories!!!
First show!
Someone told me the Grateful Dead controlled the weather, and I was sold. She took me to Alpine Valley. We were so green, I didn't even know they played different songs every night. "Why didn't they play Truckin'" I thought. I was blown away by the power. They had a technique where it seemed like they could stop a freight train on a dime. Quinn the Eskimo was the only song I recognized. The Not Fade Away refrain with all of us clapping and chanting together and the band coming back out and joining us--that experience reeled me in for keeps. I still get tears listening to the music and reading stories.
