Best tape I have ever had.
.....as we're....singin' in the rain. This tape had the best tape responce. I remember that there was a building to the side there and when you positioned yourself just so you could catch the echo bouncing back from the mains and it created the trippiest convergence of sound and time I ever experianced. The rain didn't bother us in the least. Dougles

I remember standing in the rain up by the stage before the show, and they BLASTED Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety over the PA. When was the last time you stood out in the rain with 30,000 happy hippies and listened to Pink Floyd?

What a show!! It was pouring out!! Got like 10 feet from the stage. Garica was wareing blue blazer jacket. Weir tryed to talk before the 2 nd set but Healy echoed the hell out of it and all I got was "as we resume our singing in the rain" One of the best Dew's I ever heard!! A++++ ShowWe camped out at Hearshy campground. Cool amusement park also. There was that big swing that had a bunch of deadheads on it while they played the Go to Heaven. I got a bumber sticker that "meltdown in chocolate town" I still have it.

I was up front ,standing in front of Jerry, what a show . If I recall right in stopped raining right before Morning Dew and there was a cloud of steam coming from the crowd that was a trip . We did the Meriweather shows and Pittsburg after this show . Boy I miss those days .

I convinced a bunch of pie-eyed dosers that the entire region around Hershey was built over a rich vein of liquid chocolate and that's what we were all dancing in, not mud! Hey, sometimes you feel like a nut... http://www.thebughunters.com

Xyes could not remember what that moment was, quite magical, been trying to think what song, but it was just an echoed bob wier, thanks too comment above, for solving the puzzel, that unlocked very fond memory, tom thumb blues, what a rare gem, the whole experience was wet and alive, like morning dew on a perfact day, another renunion show for me, like the rich stadium jack straw fourth of july, with old highschool sweetheart, only this one was from yet another town i moved away from, poor army bratt blues, and this young love passed away the same year as the previous one not from accident but from cancer, i fear i might be cursed, all my old beaus are gone, i fell like a black cat, caught on a limb here, yall know better, but i know him, tis the season of the witch, here is too autumm leaves, old boyfriends, morning dew the passing of young love, fond memories, and great shows

It was a dark and stormy day... well not too stormy but enough rain to cause Bill to come out on stage prior to the festivities. As the crowd cheered his appearance he made a show of looking around at the cloudy skies and finally made a gesture that suggested it was too wet for a concert that day. The moist throng voiced our disapproval of his weather forecast as he retired to the enclave backstage and a good laugh was had by all. This pic must have been made while Phil was singing Tom Thumb Blues (see photo's section of this site) which was quite heavy for me as I and my concert going buddy Al were both out of our minds (and bodies.) I recall a tall gentleman, right in the middle of the crowd between the stage and soundboard putting his arms around his friends and he seemed to encompass 15 people with each arm. Later during Not Fade Away I distinctly heard Bobby say, “Everybody ready?” at a point during the song intro when he was NOWHERE near his mic stand. I repeated his words to myself, under my breath and the dude in front of me turned around and put his forefinger to his lips and went “Shhhhh.” This really blew my mind!!! This was also the first show at which the pre show music selection really hit home for me. For some cosmic reason Healy played The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety and his choice provided the PERFECT “set and setting” for an incredible night of music and fun. Good Times! XOXOXOXO L/S

Went to this show w guitar player/best friend from HS and we both dosed hard. We didn't get in till the second set, but I remember "dripping" in the lot during Cold Rain and Comes a Time was my first. All I can say other that the Estimated/Terrapin was awesum, but Dew was the greatest I've heard. I remember the spots only on Jerry during the quiet part and it was surreal. Then the Throwing Stones hit and I don't know if it was only me and the acid, but it seemed like this incredible "anti-nuke" environmental message...from Dew into Stones then Not Fade. I got that message feeling at several shows after, but this was the first time my brain seemed to hear it. His job is to shed light, not to master.

This show was fun start to finish. Loved the rain, Jerry in Red with his jacket on, the Garcia first set closer of Birdsong, Comes A Time Deal! Sorry Weir! The Music, Tom Thumb, Estimated, Terrapin. Morning Dew as rain let up a bit. Sick. This was a tough ride to hear from SPAC but well worth it. Barely made it in time but caught it all from Cold Rain to the end. Could have left off the Day Job, but we'll forgive them for that call after a very strong outing. Too bad they never played here again. It was a pretty cool scene. On to Merriweather!

Morning Dew in the rain? What an amazing time. I seem to remember a Cryptical at this show; but, alas, the set lists say, "No." Humm... Do I really recall the umbrella in my view? Bobby, as I think I recall, made mention of "singing in the rain." What a great time. Years later the Star Theatre would host the Further Fest. It was great to see Bobby and Jorma sing, "El Paso" a la acosutic at that show in '97-- 12 years later. Now it's nearly that long since that Further Show. "Such a long, long time to be gone, but a short time to be there...." Thinking of Chocolate George!

One of the best times I ever had at a show. Jerry took over the first set with the Birdsong-Comes a Time-Deal set ender. 2nd set was a blast as well. Phil changed words in Tom Thumbs drinking Heinekins.. Good times were had by all.

My third show. This was the most special one for me. The previous posters described many incidents on which I concur. The "steaming" crowd, the weather games, ect...the scene was very surreal. I was pretty close to the stage, and ol' Jer just looked right at me and launched into that majestic Dew. Classic G.D. moment.

So after waking up in a Puddle in Saratoga..We jumped into the creepy Van we rented,(which BTW my buddy left his prized jean jacket on the roof of) Anywho off we went to Hershey Park..I was a wee little lad of 16,and my friends all five years older had the Honor of watching over me. We get to PA in the Rain without Raingear ..Yes Hefty Bags for us ALL!!!!..as I looked out and around me,I could see people on the tops of Bulidings and what seemed like Hangers, but Buy then the Gooney Birds had kicked in, and well quite frankly things are a bit fuzzy on that,But I swear it seemed like Dancing Umbrella's as far back as I could see :) As all this was being observed, Jerry ripped into what could Possibly one of the Best Cold Rain Snows of that year... Its not until a few minutes ago when I clicked onto this site that all these Fabulous memories started coming back.. Those were great times.. Thanks guys for all the Fantastic stories on here.. Peace.. E

One thing I clearly recall was Phil absolutely destroying the PA, dropping huge ass bombs during Morning Dew. He shredded the woofers of the PA, they were totally bottoming out bad. I also recall Birdsong as being nice, and The music never stopped. First time hearing Tom Thumbs Blues I believe.

Jerry sounds terrible voice-wise on this show. Bobby doesn't sound the best either, vocally. Just wonderin' if this is what passes for a "great show" (other comments) in this period, or if Jerry and Bobby were both under the weather, or what? Personal opinion - the Dead were at their best from 1978-1981, roughly. Thoughts?

I lived about 6 miles from Hershey at the time. There were 6 of us that went to Saratoga in my 1974 Chrysler New Yorker. Nice boat for long distance traveling. We got home around 5:00AM. A little rest and then over to the park in the early afternoon. It was first date night with my wife and her first show. We went on to tour up and down the East Coast until the end of the '91 summer tour. About that Morning Dew. The rain slacking off was mentioned but does anyone remember the nearly full moon peeking through the clouds right over the stage? Magical!

Hey y'all! Hoping some head out there can help me win a bet: My friend & I went to Hershey Park back in '85 for a fantastic show and I bet him that we saw Bill Walton (RIP) there, getting soaked in the rain w/ the rest of us. My buddy says no way! Can anyone confirm that he was there? Thanks!
