1st Show with 2nd wife
Lots of shows with the first MRS.Skllbob, she had been into the Dead for several yrs before me. She was 2 yrs older than me and both her older brothers were into the Dead. Show was so so but surprisingly enough my new bride danced throughout the entire show with me.
First show for me
This was my very first show and man.......what a way to start the adventure! The first set was great - but the second set absolutely blew me away. The whole band was really "on" that night and Brent especially was really kickin' ass. My life changed after this show. I wish that I could re-live it. What a show. I still get excited talking about it.
I think this was my last show...
I saw JGB several times up until '90 and that was it. Work, family obligations, etc. I kept telling myself they'd be there when I got set up financially. Kinda true, except for Jerry (and Brent - RIPx2). I enjoy all the "Friends" and Ratdog whenever I can now. Thank God they're still playing!!!
deceptive night...
I was a senior in HS and came up with some story for the parents to let me out that night...some kind of meeting or something...I was just sure that they would not let me go if they knew (being a school night). This isn't a bad thing, they were and are great parents, I just didn't feel like making the argument. They never found out!! This was one of the very few scams I was able to successfuly keep off the folks' radar...maybe I should tell them now...
I recall this as being a great show. It was show # 2 for me, my first being a year earlier @ the Meadowlands. Brent sticks out in my mind as creating a big presence that night...I was always a big Dylan fan, so Watchtower & Knockin pretty well blew me away. This show was also responsible for enamoring me with Terrapin. I definitely remember walking away from this one feeling realy satisfied and once again totally anticipating the next time I would get to see these guys... Little did I know...the next night held another dose of Jerry and the boys in my future.
My First Show
It may’ve been my first show but I definitely remember it was absolutely killer and NOT because it was my first show. Not knowing a lot of material, I actually anticipated my first show not even being good. I just assumed, I needed to learn more songs and grow with the music before I got “that feeling”.
The second song of the first set was Sugaree and I didn’t know this song but I was amazed by magnitude of the crowd’s singing of the chorus. Hearing “Shake it, shaaay-kit, Sugaree….” at that level blew my mind. In the past, Ive heard other Deadheads talk about getting goose bumps during heightened chords and certain lyrics but I thought it was corny so I dismissed it.
I wont get insanely profound and say that this night changed my life but for some reason, every time I hear the "Daddy made whiskey…" verse from Brown Eyed Women, I get goose bumps…..EVERY TIME! It brings me back to that precise moment in time, the person I was sitting with and the view of the stage from across the coliseum. Its an incredible phenomenon!
An estimated 60 shows and 23 years later, I absolutely love being a Deadhead and now appreciate that which I once thought was corny... so yeah, I guess it did change my life. Thanks GD!
solid show, great energy
My first Scarlet Fire,GDTRFB, Fantasy Hey Jude, was a real rocker. I remember having the next day off from H.S. due to Good Friday. Them's was the times.
Cub,I am now heavily into
Cub,
I am now heavily into stealth taping, burdened with spending hours of pre-show time with recording prep, test Nak 300's, etc. Then get in line 2 hours before any of my friends even leave the parking spot.
But kicking' back after the show listing to crisp recordings thru the headphones while M Tully and Scott pay acoustics till dawn.
What a life, tour baby tour!
