"When we began discussing audio projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead back in 2012, we knew we wanted to do something completely unprecedented. We could think of nothing more exciting or ambitious than a career-spanning overview of the band's live legacy focused on what best tells the story: complete concerts. Our first criterion was the very best live music to represent any given year in the band’s history. We wanted to make sure that there were not only the tent-pole shows that fans have been demanding for decades but also ones that are slightly more under the radar, but equally excellent. For those who listen to the entire box straight through, chronologically, the narrative of the Grateful Dead's live legacy will be seen as second to none in the pantheon of music history." - David Lemieux

We are more than pleased to announce the Grateful Dead's most ambitious release ever: 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN. Available as both an 80-disc boxed set and a custom lightning-bolt USB drive, the collection includes 30 unreleased live shows, one for each year the band was together from 1966 to 1995, along with one track from their earliest recording sessions in 1965. Packed with over 73 hours of music, both the boxed set and the USB drive will be individually numbered limited editions.

The 80-disc boxed set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies, a nod to the band’s formation in 1965. Along with the CDs, it also includes a gold-colored 7-inch vinyl single which bookends the band’s career. The A-side is “Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)” from the band’s earliest recording session in 1965 with the B-side of the last song the band ever performed together live, “Box Of Rain” recorded during their final encore at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 9, 1995.

The box also comes with a 288-page book that features an extensive, career-spanning essay written by Nick Meriwether, who oversees the Dead archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz, along with special remembrances of the band submitted by fans. Also included is a scroll that offers a visual representation of how the band’s live repertoire has evolved through the years.

The USB drive version* will be shaped like a gold lightning bolt with the Grateful Dead 50th anniversary logo engraved on the side. The drive includes all of the music from the collection in both FLAC (96/24) and MP3 formats and is an individually numbered limited edition of 1,000 copies. Digital version of the book also included on USB.

Shows will NOT be sold individually on CD. This release is sure to sell out quickly so pre-order your copy today and stick around as we will be revealing a mighty fine selection of music, art, and much, much more right here.

(Looking for a smaller 50th Anniversary commemorative keepsake? September 18th will see the release of a four-CD version of the collection titled 30 TRIPS AROUND THE SUN: THE DEFINITIVE LIVE STORY 1965-1995. More on that here.)

*Helpful hints for using your USB:

Running the 30 Trips Player / Reader program:
On Windows – Navigate to the USB drive and double click the PCStart.exe file to run.
On MacOS – Open the GD 30 Trips drive, and double click the MacStart to run.

    Viewing the digital book:
You can either view it within the program that comes on the drive, or by opening the PDF directly.

To view the PDF, open the PDF folder on the drive and the USB_bk_spreads_08-31 file within. Selecting the option within your PDF reading application to view as a “single page” might be preferable to viewing as a continuous document.

Importing music into iTunes and other library programs:
When you import the songs from the USB into your library, the information used to identify the track will likely leave them sorted incorrectly. Please use the song list found here to re-number the songs for each show so that they playback in the correct order.

Yes...I agree. Stop the politics, please. Why y'all keep bringing it up? As many others have posted, call Customer Service if you have any concerns and/or questions about your order (or orders, if you think you may have submitted multiple). I called them last hour about my potential 4-5 orders, and they were quickly able to inform me of the quantity of my official order on record. By the way, which show (of the 30) seems most appealing to you?

you are helping them fix these pirate dreams on the fly.. I would imagine your last statement is something they will figure out after lunch tomorrow. Good thing they have Until Week 2 of the NFL season to figure this out. I guess they are just picking up their jaws and wiping the smiles of their faces after the big meeting, since they decided to do this in 2012. Customer service managers sound a lot like Sepp Blatter,, "We will restore Fifa's credibility, starting tomorrow. Can they do anything on the call center floor ? Or are they just bad customer service? In the last 2 months, I have spoke to 1 agent who was capable of performing practical functions of a helpful and attentive customer service agent. Talking to a Supervisor in Charlottesville, Virginia is like pulling teeth.

    I just pulled trigger
I did have to call dead net about my order and I asked the cust service guy and he said the USB was sold out a few hours ago and that there were only a few hundred of the cd's still in stock (FWIW). Funny, I was on fence about buying this. I would say that I can afford it but knew my wife would be pissed. I told her about it and she was ok with me buying it (but I'm sure there'll be payback later if she wants a big ticket luxury item. Which is only fair). In any event, I have bought a lot of dead offerings in past, DiP DAP, winter land boxes, etc ... But not all. I passed on both spring 90 boxes and only bought limited number of euro 72 ... Just thought the price was too much for me for these and was getting lot of the same in the boxes. Plus, I'm more of a 60's & 70's fan. But for some reason even with steep price, I wanted this box so pulled the trigger. I thought the box would be available for a while but seems like only a few hundred left. That all being said, I do feel this is sort of a money grab by Dead and that in the spirit of the band and as a way to give back to a very devoted fan base that has supported them all these years, they should have split box to mini boxes to make more affordable and or sold shows individually. Anyways, I am looking forward to this. I'm f there are shows I don't love I'll sell on Amazon Peace

I believe that was the last count. Yep, around 2500 left. A lot of screwed up orders yesterday, so the number available has seen a major increase.

First off is please no politics here. The Grateful Dead were always refreshingly apolitical and this site is refreshingly apolitical. Keep it that way, please. This box set is amazing and I'm glad it's out there but it's not for me. I have every Dick's Picks, every Dave's Picks, Fillmore 69, Winterland 73, Winterland 77, Europe 72 Steamer Trunk, May 77, Veneta 72. You see where I'm going here? For $700 there's only a few shows that really catch my eye. For those of you getting this I'm so happy for you. It's way cool but I'm back into the "What's the next Dave's Picks?" mode. We're living in the golden age of Grateful Dead concert releases. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy!

    Order(s) and availability
I tried yesterday to order a box and got caught in the never ending spinning wheel. That eventually timed out. Placed a second order once things were back up and it went right through in a matter of seconds. Got the confirmation no. page printed and also the email from Dead.net that followed. Both charges showed "pending" on my cc throughout most of today. Just checked now on Amex website and only one charge is now "pending" so I am good. I do think though that TPTB did not like us announcing what the count was on the available boxes. You now cannot check that any longer. But at 4:00 PM EDT there was less then 890 units so I think they will be gone by Thursday, Friday for sure. I am thrilled with what this box will deliver. Anyone who does not pull the trigger will be kicking themselves and will probably then pay a much higher price on ebay. Rock on

You people do realize that you are spending $700 for a flash drive of about 100gb in size, which if bought in bulk in relatively small quantities can be purchased at a rate of less than $7 a piece, and a book? I hope that the drive is not locked so you can easily back up the files to your computer. Otherwise, you'd better take good care of a tiny object, which cannot be replaced and you will need to use to plug in any time you want to listen. If you are able to download off of the stick, at least you can offload the cost by splitting it with 50 other people to make it a reasonable deal

....count another vote for "shut your yap". If I wanted that, I would just turn on the tv. This box is gonna blow many a mind. The more it sinks in, the more it makes me feel like a 9 year old on Christmas. That's a hard feeling to get back. And the title is perfect....awesome title....awesome to know plageant is in there....awesome because you could play a show every day, and end up in the next month before it was over....an official '86 release? Never thought I would actually see that. My first show was that year. Caught them on the downslide and they still dug their hooks in....would pay a lot more than 700 bucks to see them once in '72....there, I'm done rambling. For now....

This offering from 30 Trips is a classic Bruce/Vinnie show! The whole fall 1990 tour really. For a band who just hired two new players this tour has some mighty fine moments. New York to the UK and more! Good stuff!
