Another good show despite one of the worst venues ever
Greensboro Coliseum is a god-awful venue for a show .... but the boys managed to make it good anyway, as always. ~~~> I took a carful of psychotherapist work friends from the MHC where i worked at the time. I was the only Dead Head at my work place, but we had great seats on the floor, center ~ 15 to 20 rows from the stage --> a good time was had by all. And Not a small side-effect of creating a Dead-friendly MHC.

Jim BaileyMy second Dead show--this was the night of the Great Alabama Getaway---I'll explain---while that song was playing,my best friend and I were starting to feel the effects of some really terrific liquid trip--this lady who had come with us to the show was twirling one of the flourescent collars and had disconnected it to straighten it out. All of a sudden the plug came out of the collar and this green stuff started flying everywhere. My friend and I were covered with a zillion little green specks and looked like human Christmas trees. we looked at each other and lost it and started laughing so hard we almost hurt ourselves--That was The Great Alabama Getaway of 4/30/81!!!!!

    Number 8
Bought a ticket 2 hours before the show for $ 9.25 at the box office.General Admission. The chairs were in the way so we stacked them up in the back of the floor. Some twirling girl squeezed something in my palm. The band played gigantic multicolor dough nuts floating of the stage turning inside out.

I am biased but 79' to 81' are my favorite years. 82'-83' are right behind.! Dougles

Still based at Averett College in Danville, Va. the pattern was beginng to take shape. First show to not have Alabama open. First Shakedown, and some comment about an old train wreck that happened around here for an encore. Hey Dougles and philfan, You seeing a pattern too?

This was my second show where I came down from Boone with a bunch of college friends. I remember the Dead playing Peggy O - the first time that I had heard them do it.
