    Grateful Dead Hour no. 348

    Week of May 22, 1995

    Had a request for some 1995 Grateful Dead.

    This second-set opener of the Beatles' "It's All Too Much" is a great ecstatic moment - credit Vince Welnick's wonderful pop sensibility for bringing the Beatles into the Dead's latter-day repertoire, although all the Grateful Dead members were Beatle fans back in the day. And the "Iko Iko" that follows just goes on and on.

    "Days Between," one of the last batch of songs Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia wrote together, is one of the greatest. It is the Dead's own story, in the same mortal mood as "Black Muddy River" and warmed by the songwriters' memories of those bright, hopeful early days.

    Grateful Dead 3/18/95 Spectrum, Philadelphia
    IT'S ALL TOO MUCH
    IKO IKO

    Grateful Dead 3/23/95 Coliseum, Charlotte NC
    HORNSBY and the DRUMMERS
    JAM->
    DAYS BETWEEN->
    GOOD LOVIN'

    Every Wednesday, we post a program from the Grateful Dead Hour archives for your enjoyment and enlightenment. You can browse or search the playlists at gdhour.com or on the GD Hour Search page, and let me know what program(s) you'd like to hear by emailing me at gdhour@dead.net.

    Thank you for listening!

    Nice
    Some of the better '95 moments. Love the ripping organ solo in "All Too Much." Agreed - an all-time classic Iko.

    Philly Iko
    I was lucky enough to attend the 95 Philly shows and I still think this Iko goes down as one of the best to me. Jerry takes control and never lets up! He was moving around the stage and dancing and singing like he was 30 years old again. It reminds me of the last So Many Roads in Chicago....very soulful almost like you could hear his mortality in his voice.
