    Dead Again
Hi TigerLilly,Dead Again is a Nürnberg-based GD cover band. They just had their 4th band birthday but I've never seen them live. Here you get some informations from and about them: http://www.myspace.com/gratefuldeadagain http://www.dead-again.de/ Pegnitzbühne is a famous club under deadheads in Nürnberg: http://www.pegnitzbuehne.de/ http://www.myspace.com/428527371 Another very interesting band down there are the Mars Mushrooms: http://www.marsmushrooms.de/ http://www.myspace.com/marsmushrooms I love their sound! Not very often on stage these days because their bass player is in the States right now (http://choffmann.wordpress.com/) but I'll play some cool MM jams in my next STASH show on 9 Dec (together with Phish Hedphones Jam, Ginger, Captain Obvious, Dark Star Orchestra and Gary Gates). Many greetings from Hamburg, Frank --- www.stash-radio.de

Hey everybody,on the last two STASH radio shows in Hamburg, Germany I presented some tracks from the Grateful Dead (The Grateful Dead RT1.3 > Egypt 78 > RT1.4) and wonderful sounds from the Swiss psychedelic blues-rock jamband Ginger (with FOTM Jam and other studio improvisations). You can listen to the German spoken radio shows here: http://www.stash-radio.de/archiv.htm And what else is going on in Germany? NYE - yeah. For example in Hamburg with the Hamburg-based GD tribute band Cosmic Finger or in Nuernberg with Dead Again or in Wolfsbehringen with Ginger... Catch ya, Frank --- www.stash-radio.de

Thought it was about time I joined and said hi! I'm in Manchester and was lucky enough to see them in '85. Only wish I'd been old enough to see them in the late 60s/early 70s as well. I've been to Southport - but I never saw any deadheads there! I remember there were a handful of deadhead gatherings at the Briton's Protection a few years ago. Do they still happen? Anyone know?

Sunday is bad timing, I am at the SpieleMesse Essen (In the Gruga Halle where the Dead played in 81 btw) from Thursday to Sunday afternoon-but I will spread the word, and also try to stop by on my way back down south Sunday night. Must be a local holiday though, I know of no holiday on Monday.********************************** By trying we can easily learn to endure adversity -- another man's I mean. Mark Twain

I miss SF, My sister just saw Neil Young play a little solo show in oakland and then hung out with his son Ben. I got to see him play 14 shows straight warming up for a Europe tour before I left SF in a little bar where I used to play, It was really low pro, he used a fake band name, and only about 100 tix were sold for each show.

Building on Critter's post regarding touring Europe, I wanted to let you all know that we are hosting a special show on Deadvids.com on Wednesday, November 17th, 2010, from 9:00-11:30pm/ET called My First Grateful Dead Show: International Edition. Each month, Deadvids.com hosts a new series called My First Grateful Dead Show. I host the show and each month a member guest hosts with me and we listen to their very first Grateful Dead show that they attended, and I interview them with 20 questions. During the interview, others that are present can ask additional questions of the guest host. We've been doing this show since late July 2010, and it's been catching on as people get to understand what it's about. We've found it really interesting and inspiring to hear each person's unique journey into this community and how it has impacted their lives. So far, it's always been an American/US-based deadhead that is my guest host, but next month we will have our first "international" guest host - a deadhead from overseas. I can't tell you who, or what show (we try to keep those under wraps until show time), but I would like to invite all of you, US-based and those living outside the US, to please join us! FYI, our guest host will have to be up into the wee hours of their morning to do this show, so perhaps you guys overseas can make a party of it and get together and listen/participate in the discussion that evening, make an all-nighter of it... If you cannot make it, we post an archive on Deadvids.com of all the past shows so folks can see whose show it was and the link to archive.org for that show. You are all most welcome! Please stop by the Deadvids chat room to fully participate in the interview discussion. For more information, please check out info on the next show here: http://gdvodcast.ning.com/events/my-first-grateful-dead-show-5 And info on past show archives here: http://gdvodcast.ning.com/forum/topics/my-first-grateful-dead-show-1 Hope to see you all on November 17th! Tell your friends... ;)

i'm going to throw this one out and see if anyone bites.one of the great things about going to a dead show was not ever knowing what they were going to play next. you could go to a three night stand and not have them repeat even one song. obviously in the early days, when they had a much more limited repertoire they probably ended up repeating alot. but how about later on. are there any two shows which have exactly the same setlist from opener to encore? even if they were years apart. just curious : ) would love to listen to the two tapes and compare them.

I'd check with the DeadBase folks (who are in any case putting together a new edition). I vaguely recall hearing that there were something like one or two instances of duplicate setlists over the band's entire career, but the discussion in question was many years ago so I'm not sure the recollection should be trusted!

In August Lamagonzo posted this on another forum http://www.dead.net/features/august-23-august-29-2010?page=1 this is what he said. ---------------------------------------- 'The question of 2 identical show lists is a factoid I obsessed on for some time until satisfying myself that I had the definitive answer. The answer is never, but almost. The entire 2nd set is virtually identical except for a Nobody's jam. The dates are, drum roll please, Prov. 5/14/78 and and UCSB 6/4/78 Read'em and weep.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COME BACK GONZO

if that is as close as it gets, i guess the answer is no. i'll even concede the 2nd sets as identical and even the 1st encore is the same. but the first sets only have some similarities. i'll admit i'm surprised. i would have thought that it had to happen at least once, the truth is i'm surprised that that is offered up as the only time a second set was repeated. with far less songs, the probability would be much higher

i have a small radio program here in valencia spain one hour twice a month. i was thinking of doing a show composed of grateful dead performances in europe. anybody want to help me out with suggestions? ideally, there would be something from each tour, and spread out from different venues adn different countries. obviously there need to be high qualtiy recordings easily accesible. ratdog also counts, i think. remember it's only an hour long show, so "the entire second set from wembley" is not going to fit. let's hear your opinions on the best performances, single song or song sequence (china cat > rider, etc.) from europe. BTW sorry this isn't a contest, no one will be sending you a free copy of road trips vol. 1 2 or 3, but you'll make my life easier and my listeners happier.

it is in theory a "jamband" radio show, so i try to mix it up. some new stuff, some old stuff, live and studio, usually throw in a few of the promo cuts off of albums just out, but the grateful dead do seem to slip into just about every show. wonder how that happens?

you can either send me the MP3 file to jams@jambandseurope.com or send me a link to download. please don't make me listen online. if you haven't already you will definitely want to send to Frank Poppe at Stash Radio in Hamburg and if there is an album out to review also contact Hans at Here Comes The Flood. also background info is nice as well.

just a heads up for all jamband and funk fans living in spain. the Uks finest funk band "The New Mastersounds" will be on tour in Spain in February. These guys play all original funk, mainly instrumental, ten albums already released, and have been compared to the meters, in fact, Art "Poppa Funk" Neville was so impressed by a video of them doing a meters tribute session at the Mountain Aire festival he asked them to be his backing band for a show at Tipitina's in NOLA this Halloween. They spend most of their time touring the jamband circuit in the u.s., they played just about every major jamband festival this summer and fall, so this is a rare opportunity to catch them on this side of the Atlantic. These will be their first shows after Jam Cruise (3rd year in a row), so don't miss them. If you live in the UK they will be playing a free show in Leeds tomorrow December 22nd. Thursday, February 3rd - Fender Club Getafe Friday, February 4th - Durango Club Valencia Saturday, February 5th - Booga Club Granada Sunday, February 6th - Sala Malandar Sevilla w/ La Mula Wednesday, February 9th - Vallado-Indy Music Series @ Sala Asklepios Valladolid Thursday, February 10th - Hangar Burgos Friday, February 11th - Jimmy Jazz Vitoria Satruday, February 12th - Apolo [2] Barcelona Sunday, February 13th - Sala Caracol Madrid

don't know about london, but the UK is full of deadheads.you need to check out the eurotraders group on yahoo, that's your best bet. currently a concert is being planned in april for workingman's deed, a dead tribute band, one of various in the uk. although i think it is cosmic charlies which plays more around london. if you hunt around my webpage www.jambandseurope.com you can also find links to all the dead cover abnds and jma bands in the uk as well as links to other sites and the SOL festival in UK as well.

jas obrecht Jamasutra "revolution down the road" cd reviewFirst, a quick background check: Barry “The Fish” Melton played lead guitar on the San Francisco scene’s first psychedelic record, and went on to play the Monterey and Woodstock festivals. His new “neo-psychedelic” release with Parisian guitarist/vocalist Stephan Missri and band is, in a word, extraordinary. It’s trippy, politically and socially conscious, and brilliantly played. Deadheads – Garcia freaks in particular – will love Melton and Missri’s flowing solos, epitomized by the Jerry-esque joyride of “Jamasutra Mantra.” Like the early Allman Brothers Band and Steve Hunter-Dick Wagner with Lou Reed, Melton and Missri create intriguing two-guitar interplay without venturing into overkill. They freak-out Hendrix-style on “Vert,” and Barry resurrects his wicked vibrato of yore for “Le Dernier Homme en Ville.” His sea shanty-cum-ecological call to arms “Shady Grove” recalls his Country Joe & The Fish era and then segues into one of the album’s best jams. International feels abound. Algerian-born Missri sings mostly in French, with a smooth, smoky voice. Rhythms and melodies seamlessly embrace rock, blues, psychedelic, Middle Eastern, and African influences. “This was truly a trans-Atlantic effort for me,” says Melton, who’s worked as a public defender in northern California. “Much of my early music was influenced by Middle Eastern music, which becomes immediately apparent were you to see me with Country Joe in the 1967 movie Monterey Pop.” Danish bassist Charles Jannic and French drummer Christophe Rossi excel at everything – hats off to these guys, as well as to Melton and Missri for their fine, fine playing and producing. Order this Seafood Records release at www.barrymelton.com and www.jamasutra.com.

Scottish dead band Workingsman's Deed will be playing Saturday, April 16th in Manchester at the Briton's Protection Bar. A great opportunity to hear some good tunes and meet fellow deadheads in the UK. Discussions about football are not recommended .....
