    I have tapes

So…if you’re still interested, I have a box of 64 tapes ready to ship after culling the herd. All Dead, mostly 80’s. I’ll even pay postage, just want to see them go to a good home. Let me know, but I am not very tech savvy, (it was hard for me to even get to where I could post this), so please be patient.

@Deadhead1974, If you still have tapes available, I'm happy to pay for shipping. I'd be more than happy to give some of your tapes a new home.

Looking to trade for CD Box Sets, almost any genre.
Most Dead stuff already gone but lots of other good stuff.
Some 60s, lots of 70s & 80s rock and folk. A nice eclectic assortment, many off-beat under-the-radar artists. Many NY radio station live folk & singer-songwriter stuff.

Send message here with your email addy - i check frequently and will reply with the details.

You can probably get an estimate of shipping costs by measuring the approximate weight and size of the box they would fit into. Naturally, as you say, the destination is also a factor.

The size of the final package will determine the price scale which increases in steps by weight.
There will be a price scale for domestic shipping, and different price scales depending on overseas regional codes. The codes often seem to be determined as much by postal infrastructure as they are by proximity.

These rates should all be posted on the website of whatever delivery service you choose, be it USPS, FedEx, or whatever. These days some services have better coverage in different regions, while another is better for a different region.

For example, when I ship stuff to the US, I use a courier service, something like UPS, but when I send things to Europe, it's better to use a Post Office product.

For another example, back when I was trading blank tapes and postage for someone to dub shows for me, I put the tape in an envelope, weighed it, and bought the return postage for that envelope before including both the stamped return evenlope and the tape into second package, which, of course, also had to have postage. So, if all you're asking for is postage, that's totally reasonable. The only hold up is that no one knows how much the postage will be yet. It's hard to put your hand up and say, "Me," under those circumstances.

Another concern for international shipping is whether eyebrows will be raised at customs inspection, but there is no way to predict that. Essentially the tapes would be a gift with no commercial value.

I suppose collectors more knowledgable than myself could probably guesstimate the weight based simply on the number of tapes, but if you can somehow weigh the boxes, a ballpark figure should be just a few clicks away. Then, if someone from Kansas, or someone from Germany, or like myself, from Japan, or wherever, shows interest you can quickly refer to the chart and have an idea how much they should expect to send to you. You don't want to settle on a price, and then find out that isn't enough to cover shipping, right?

It also saves you packing everything up, taking it to the post office, and then having the buyer back out because postage was far more than expected. I reckon people would like to know what they're getting into before going forward. Personally, I imagine it's gonna be more than I can afford right now. Can't spend money I don't have, regardless of the quality of your collection. However, at this point, even if I was seriously considering your offer, imagination is the only thing I have to go on. See what I'm saying?

I completely agree with you, these vintage tapes could still provide a lot of joy to someone.
A lot of people still listen to tapes.
It would be a travesty to have them end up in the garbage.

It is over 300 tapes; closer to 400.

I would like a decent home for this carefully collected batch of tapes.

I don't know how much shipping would cost as it is a large collection from the late 1960's to the early 1990's. I suppose it depends on where you are located. I am in California north of San Francisco.

There are JGB tapes in the collection as well.

A lot of effort went into this and money too.

If you cannot pay the amount necessary to ship it with the Casio cases that they are in (its about 6 of them full), I don't know what to suggest.

    Thank you for your interest.

    Deadhead1974:

Pretty quiet around here, I see.

At the moment I'm extremely short on spare change for shipping, and raise that the question of international customs' interest in, or perhaps ignorance of such content. I do find myself salivating, but ya can't spend what ya ain't got.

Hopefully you can hang on to them until a more stable enthusiast turns up.

Roughly how many tapes are there?
What do you reckon domestic shipping will be?

Might be easier to find a taker if they know how much postage will be needed.

A lot of people probably filled up while the Internet Archive was still open trading on all formats.
I for one still have a tape deck, sadly didn't binge on the Archive when I could have, and can't afford the string of limited edition official releases that are so tantalizing.

    Good luck!

Hi there, I don't know if this is the right place for this question but figured someone here would know the answer... I am wondering what the best source for complete Grateful Dead set lists is? A friend used to have the entire Deadbase memorized. It was amazing, you could test him!! I see there is Taper's Compendium as well (volumes 1-3???), and my friend said this is more complete? What say youz? Thanks guys!

Try the Shows & Lyrics section on this page (Look Up). Float your cursor over it, then go to 'Shows by Year', pick a year, then a show. The set list is usually integrated into that show page, or someone has kindly placed it in the comments (thanks hockey_john).

As much as the digital age has allowed the old tapes to be cleaned up and made to sound better on cd or through a computer, it does not sound right until it is put onto tape and played through a vintage system with old cabinet speakers. At least that is my preference. That said, I resurrected my tape collection and have been able to acquire a ton of killer tapes. I am looking for blank/templets for j-card inserts. I have hundreds of tapes that need them so I am open to any designs or leads. Thank you, Steve

I also am looking to aquired Jcards so that I can clean up my collection of GD tapes. Does anybody have any info on the JCards that seemed to be mass produced specifically for Dead tapes? They often had "Live Dead" or some variation of that, printed on the spine and a stock photo of either Jerry, Bobby, or Phil on the front. Any info on these types of Jcards, or any other mass produced GD J cards would be very much appreciated.

My husband told me to check out a user named brianhahne in order to find old releases at decent prices. There are a couple of Dick's Picks I still need to find (3, 4, 24, 28), as well as the Bay Area Pure Jerry - but not if it costs $300+. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looking for a resource for trading CD-R. Have done the Vines but I remember a vibrant tape trading network back in the day and want to rebuild my collection. Enjoying 6-20-74 on archive.org right now but the streaming doesn't help in my car or out by the pool. Any help much appreciated. Will trade what I have as well as postage, blanks, etc.

I am desperately trying to get a hold of some dead tapes someone else has made. I know I could go on archive.org and make my own but I really am looking for someone to guide me by sending me tapes of their favorite shows. I'm willing to send blanks and pay postage. I have tremendous respect for the tapers who was there and am asking if anyone would be open to sending me some tapes. It would mean the world to me. Thanks in advance for reading this and considering it. Please PM me if this is something you would be open to.

I am seeking a good quality recording of the 11/30/79 show, Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh. It was a first date with a life partner and would like to make a Christmas present of it. Archive.org has several SBDs and an great sounding Matrix - for streaming only, of course. I'd like to have a CD copy to give as a gift. Lots to trade if that needs to be part of the deal. Thanks in advance!

My young daughter has followed her parents’ footsteps and become very into the Dead. She doesn’t have her own computer to throw on shows so tapes would be great for her - I passed on my collection of 400 before she was born. We’d especially love anything with fun fan art / crazy cases / etc. All eras more than welcome! Thanks.

I have at least 400 cassette tapes in my storage unit that I would like to give away for free. They are a combination of soundboards and audience recordings. All periods but heaviest concentration is from the 80's. They are in a state of utter chaos, in a very large and quite heavy plastic storage container. This is way too heavy to ship, so must pickup in person. I live in Big Sur, CA and the storage unit is next to the Monterey Airport. There are certainly a number of excellent audience recordings made by a friend and those are not in circulation. The tapes cases are fun, many decorated, harking back to that time when I was young in the 80's and had loads of time on my hands. PM me if you are interested.
