    >>>Is everyone else getting
    >>>Is everyone else getting the MOV format now? Any idea on how to change it to MP3? By the way, the MOV format that is being downloaded is a very fast download. I believe this means it's not a copy of the show, but just a hyperlink to the website. So when you go to play the show, you are in reality just streaming the audio over the web. (Something I can't do at work....not allowed...bummer) Please tell me I'm just not seeing something here. right, its only a 1kb link that you downloaded. only way you can capture this to disk now is to get something like Total Recorder or another program that allows you to capture streams. feh.

    Downloading
When I right-click on the "Listen Now" link and select "Save Target As" (like I've done for weeks now) the change I see is it only saves as a MOV file. It used to be MP3. I tried selecting my "Sound Player Format" when you just left-click the link and stream it online, but that didn't change how it downloaded. Is everyone else getting the MOV format now? Any idea on how to change it to MP3? By the way, the MOV format that is being downloaded is a very fast download. hey dave, thank you-- thank you-- thank you-- thank you!!!!! can't thank you enough! thanks for getting my request up online so soon!! this was my first exposure to the GDH way back in '95! after first hearing this show i was hooked for life! what is so killer about this show is the "rain" theme....and the opening montage of rain themed songs and jams remains in my head to this day...what song/jam/album is that part with the "frog" noises from? LL rain>terrapin is an all time best IMHO! thanks again dave, for making my day!!!! and for taking my request! Looking foward magfest! sincerely, mike singal jacksonville, fl

thomas D--your comments are way out of line...this music dosen't belong to us...the people (like david gans) are gracious enough to share it with us for free... as far as the download link to listen to these GDH shows....they work fine for me. check your computer. Before you comment on how "this sucks" and how the music is for people with "deep pockets"....stop for a second and realize that yes, they might charge money for some downloads, but they are musicians and this is how they put bread on their tables. We are blessed to have all this great music available to us....so don't cry when you are expected to give a little $$ back.... like i said...check your computer cause my DOWNLOADS WORK FINE. being rude only makes you look bad....

I'm on a Windows box, so your mileage may vary... When I download, I always get a prompt box showing me the folder it's going in. I always have the option to change folders. I typically download to the Desktop, where I can then decide what folder the d/l will live in.

I had no problems with d/l. Some people are never satisfied or who let this guy in the show? Buy a ticket for the bus and think you're gonna drive? Thanks for the wonderful listen.

No download problems here. Just right-click on the link, click on 'save target as', and pick your file. "If you get confused, just listen to the music play." Brian Michaelson

Hey Thomas. I had a problem for a little while with files going into a Temp directory, even when I had assigned them elsewhere and freaking a little when I couldn't find them or access them easily when I did find them. It was a wifi problem on my end - maybe little microspazzes or something in my wireless signal. Since plugging in direct to my cable modem, it's been fine.

And I thank you once again, the 'rain' show was well nice. The version of Looks Like Rain there on is one of the finest and most genuine I've heard, and Keys to the Rain, well, what can I say? Robert Hunter is a poet extraodenaire. By the time the show had reached Weather Report Suite I was well laid back, in a state of bliss, a Cheshire Cat grin beaming forth from my face, reminiscent of, well..... anyway, thank you all once again.

Still works fine for me, just finished downloading, listening to Terrapin now. GDH and taper's sections have been my main areas of focus for downloading. Anyone find other hidden treasure troves I should checkout? Doesn't it suck when your technology stops working and you become helpless and bitter like Thomas D, not knowing who to blame and assuming the capitalists have struck again? I have this nightmare where my computer locks up the same day my IPOD fails and I have to reload 20 GB worth of tracks onto my hard drive one CD at time, and lose everything else not backed up on CD or IPOD, wakes me up in a cold sweat. Anyway, hang in there Thomas, I have a strong feeling that help is on the way.

it seems young thomasdblls has been thoroughly flogged. we all make mistakes- and the great thing is more people want to help than want to hurt. i'd guess our young friend has learned two lessons (and i learned one, too): 1- be mindful when lashing out, and 2- several alternate ways to save my ever growing collection of deaddownloads! thank you! this is a fantastic show! we too are in a drought and maybe this will seed those clouds (whole new meaning to ' seed thrower, weed grower'!) and we can get some of what we need. thanks for the link and thanks to all for the help for thomasdblls and for me! have a great week, all! caroline

David: Why does Rhino keep screwing everything up? Have you seen the posts on the Tapers Section. They are pissing off the very people they need in the future. Unlike the Archives, your feature and Lemiuex's feature are not entire shows, where it is least understandable to make the sdbs non-downloadable. But this seems to me to be pure BS. I cant even stream at work, it no longer functions. I used to look forward to Mondays and Wednesdays, but I cant even listen anymore! What's next? Are they going to charge me to listen to GDHour on the freakin radio? I am done buying anything they put out. David, as you know I have always found your voice to be one of reason, so what gives?

I'm in a recording studio in New Jersey mixing a CD this week. I found out about this Monday morning, the same time the rest of you did. I don't yet have a lot of information about what's going on, but I think it's a good deal more complicated than it may appear. I trust we'll get more information soon. I agree that it's a bummer that the change was made abruptly and without explanation, but I've been working with these people for several months on a number of levels and I feel pretty safe in assuring you it's not a simple matter of "bait and switch," "greed," etc. as so many have been shouting about on these pages. I'd ask that people not jump to conclusions. Please be patient. GD Hour blog Station list

Awfully nice of you to weigh in with some kind of response. Some of The Taper's Section comments are shrill, but someone had to know that they'd get a nasty response. Give people something for free, and then see how they react when you try to take it away ... Never a good move, but given that Rhino already has PR issues with Heads, and a perceived inability to release new GD material, it seems nigh suicidal. And, according to those same comments, I'm one of many who has spent a lot more money here since the Taper Section opened; in fact it inspired me to go back and fill in the holes in my Dick's Picks/Download Series (to the tune of about $400, not to mention the $250 I dropped at Amoeba on both box sets), so the logic of this move escapes me. I'll also note that I was unaware that Dick's Pick's and other downloads had been stopped. I would have bought a lot less in the last year if I hadn't been able to get that instant download gratification! Obviously I don't know all of the ins and outs of that situation either, but from over here it looks like a giant step backward in terms of sales. Then again, it could be that my perceptions are totally skewed: there are only a couple hundred of us making noise over in the Taper Section. Maybe they don't care about us, since we are the fanatics who already own the entire catalog and won't be buying anything until something new is released. If the Taper Section were a threat to sales from new customers, and Rhino is only capable of marketing the existing catalog, then I can understand it going bye-bye, but it seems like we might all be better served by new releases. Sorry for rambling on, but thank you again for communicating with the fans. Peace out!

Turns out Thomas D was right, at least about the format change and the likely reason, it is hard not to jump to conclusions when someone obviously had to spend a great deal of effort to reformat everything. I thought ThomasD was crazy at first too, but now everything has been converted. We'll see if there is any communication on the subject from Rhino. Heads can always go back to trading if we have to RHINO!!! You should take advantage of the good will David built up for you and make amends before it is too late. I purchased 3 from the vault and other items off the site after being attracted by the downloadable material. I could just as easily have copied it from someone else, believe me. This is a fan base that actually has a self-imposed code of morality that you need to align your business model with, not in opposition. Your intentions on this topic need to be communicated.
