    first Dead show
First time to hear the Dead live. 40 years later, I remember a lot, but would really appreciate any and all memory-jogging photos/setlists (never have heard of a tape recording) of that weekend. I remember Jerry or Bob telling the crowd "we don't play that anymore" to shouted requests for stuff from the 1st album. Jerry was beaming and definitely the leading driving musical energy. Long jams. Hot sunny day. Terry Haggerty plays heavenly----go listen

William Clarke - This was called the "Newport Pop Festival" if I'm not mistaken. Many great bands played one hour sets so it was full-on all day long and into the night. The crowd was rockin and everybody was blitzed. 20 thousand tripping at the same time. Even my straight little sisters showed up from the Valley and one look at their eyes and you didn't even have to say anything. They were blitzed. There had been an "acid auction" the night before. (Don't forget this was next to Laguna Beach home of the "Brotherhood of Eternal Love". I took a white pill I paid 5 bucks for and was high as a kite all day. People were lovely and it really was a great concert. This was the first time I'd heard the Dead with two drummers and I was blown away. I went out and purchased "Anthem of the Sun" the next day and joined the tribe and have never left. God Bless!!!
