Serious played the whole last show at Fillmore this morning it was a nice way to start the day. Last Alligator and all, to me foreshadowing the continuing change...

I'm married to a black woman & just for the record she doesn't find it offensive if anything she told me that she's my brown sugar, dark, lovely & sweet. Now where is my DP27?!!!!!!!

Yes-as they say the past was a different country. Incidentally, you may already know, but the line "scarred old slaver" was originally "Skydog slaver" and was a reference to Duane Allman. It was never printed like that in any song books, and I assume Jagger has sung "scarred old slaver" for years. Unless that's one of the lines he changed, of course!

DaP 27 has arrived!! Checked the mailbox when we were leaving the house and there it was. Taking the boys to the circus (Circus Smirkus) and a BBQ at their cousins after the show so no listening yet. Even though my boys are starting to learn the songs I let them listen to warm up music for the circus. At five and 7 their fave are Fire on the Mtn, Tennessee Jed, PITB (no they aren’t able to list their top five yet), and some others. Just the three of us so after their mom left a few years ago the stereo had been on most waking moments. They are learning all my favs (Dead, Floyd, Zep, Bowie (sorry no Doors here and hopefully that won’t spark another Doors / Who debate). Mostly live but some studio Bowie and other stuff. Music is very therapeutic so there has been a lot of music. Anyway - hopefully others will get theirs today and enjoy.

“Brown Sugar” is gross, sexist, and stunningly offensive toward black women. Some of the lyrics (Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields / Sold in the market down in New Orleans / Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright / Hear him whip the women just around midnight) are so bad that Mick Jagger changes them during shows.

What an incredible start...

Superb show with Phil & TF last night on the Burlington waterfront... we had our backs to the water, however the band could look out over maybe 4000 of us at the big lake and the Adironracks on horizon as the sun set. Massive speaker arrays meant great outdoor audio, we got there a bit late, set up near the sound and light tent where audio seemed at peak. When Phil dropped deep ones, it was quite visceral. They opened with UJB, went to PITB, played for about two hours straight. Finished with a very rocked out version of Ripple. Throwing Stones, Mountains of the Moon, Ramble, Brown Eyed, weirdly, Crosby's Almost Cut My Hair. Lucky with the weather for this outdoor show, lots of rain lately but perfectly clear for some celestial viewing, big moon, Venus low in the west, Mars bright low to the south and Jupiter higher up in the SW. heads up, the Perseids start in a week or so. Get away from urban light pollution, stay up late on a blanket so you can lay back eyes wide open and view full sky, enjoy the show. Most of us will miss the lunar eclipse tonight, no show in North America. This was the first large outdoor show like this in Vermont since the law changed, and the park rules indicate no smoking. However the entire scene was dare i say, very mellow, the only po i saw stayed with their vehicle about fifty feet behind us, didn't see them dance but they were definitely moving to the music. Discreet vaping, a few spliffs, the lines at the beer tents never got short. All ages, surprised by the numbers of families with kids... being a park, no fixed seating, lots of folding chairs but most folks stayed on their feet dancing. We are all part of one big party empathic synchronous joyfulness of moment vibe was in full swing. Had heard there was a hard curfew stop 10 pm... they played until 10:40 and Phil closed with his organ donor appeal.. You have to remember it was a very different world in 1971. Songs could be banned for the slightest perceived impropriety. In 1967 both "Lets Spend The Night Together" and "A Day in the Life" being were banned or censored for perceived sex and drug references. This was surely part of the reason why Lennon claimed "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was based on one of son Julian's paintings-to escape the censors. Two other great records that got banned were "God Save The Queen " by The Sex Pistols number 1. during the week of the Queens Jubilee, in 1977 and "Relax" by Frankie Goes To Hollywood which was a massive hit in England in 1985. Both part of the honourable tradition in rock n' roll of offending the "straights"/over 30s.
