    World Series
Not sure how you can say the band didn't care when Brent had his San Francisco Giant hat on. Remember it was the Bay Series, Oakland vs SF.

My First -And a great way to start.
My first show. Floor seats! The first set Help>Slip>Franklin's was a shock even to me (and this is my first show!) I was able to find both audience and board tapes of this show back in the 90's. The crowd completely saturates the audience tape at the opening cords to Help -it's like a seismic event and a was yet another sign of what was still to come on the 16th (see "Nightfall of Diamonds"). Set 2 also has it's moments. Scarlet set the crowd a-frenzy again. Truckin' another first show treat. Black Muddy was large and remember the lights going on and getting to finally really see the band. We left satisfied that we saw a solid show. We later learned, of course, that we missed the show of the year by a day (the night off for the band on the 15th allowed for the terrific Letterman appearance -see youtube) . But looking back, 20yrs later, I know how fortunate I was to catch even a little part of this classic period for the Dead.

Adam Katz was killed at Sat
Adam Katz was killed at Sat night show. no one found out til Monday night, when the security were strangely friendly "It's Bobby's birthday, everyone's smiling" i remember the guy saying on our way in. Nice way to try and cover...Saturday night the guards were threatening violence after the show on seems like everyone, when we weren't getting into our car fast enough one of the guys in our group was threatened with some sort of violence by one of the yellowjackets, we got the heck out of there. They pretty much came thru the lot and anyone not in their cars leaving got threatened.... of course Monday night after word was out, they were much more relaxed. Not sure about Sunday, that was the only one I missed of the set

I had thought that it was the following night (but my memory could definitely off), where I've already posted that whole scene from my perspective.

Phil looked like he was still in pajamas, the sound crew had the world series on TV- the audience may have been interested, but not the dead or crew.

I remember the house lights came on before Black Muddy River and stayed on for the song. After the song was over the house lights went back down. At this point a very spun guy infront of me started freakin out saying they were gonna play the whole show again backwards! The funnier part is that for a few moments i believed him! I also fell on my ass during drums surround sound spinning me around on the floor. I had to mop up my face after this show. I believe this was also the show that the security outside got real scary. Was this show that Adam Katz got killed? I remember seeing that poor kids face everywhere for the next bunch of years. I heard threats from security several times that night. "Music is the best" - FZ

Funny thing is, I think this was the show where two dudes, obviously tripping, were hanging off the first deck, when part of the lighting or whatever they were sitting on gave way, and the one dude disappeared into space. Was this actually Katz, and did he really just fall and whack his head? Maybe. It was freaky though.
