The better of the two nights for me

It might have been the previous night but I think it was this night when I saw the Dead for the first time. My life hasn't been the same since. Thanks for everything.

First show somehow I wind up in the first row post space, Bob breaks a string at the end of Sugar Mag and I melt into the floor, never the same changed my life thats for sure.

This was the second show in PHL and I was hoping for something a little more rocking than the Friday show. That day we went to the "Ramblin' Raft Race" People sailing anything that would float down the beautiful Skuykill River. We partied all day with a Lipton Ice Tea/Grain cocktail. Just made it to the show as Stranger was cranking.The second set rocked again - loved that Scalet>Fire & Estimated>Eyes. We ran out of smoke during the show, so afterward I sent my friend Maddog out into the parking lot Shakedown scene to cop. He came back and unknowingly bought some Green (aka flakes,etc). I took one hit and knew it was trouble. That was the last hit I ever took. When I came out of my comatose stuper we were on 95 south just crossing the MD state line. Apparently Maddog took a wrong turn on the way home to Jersey and just kept going. I knew the Dead were at the Cap Centre the next day so we just continued our long strange trip. I'm so glad too because that 8/31 show was really smoking too. I also met a sweet girl from San Luis Obispo who had been on tour for a while and had all the setlists. I thought this was awesome and she was cute. This was pre-Deadbase and a great documentary of the 80 tour. Wish I had saved my setlists

My daughter's first show, I was 6 months pregnant. I got kinda freaked waiting to get in with the crowd all around me. Then I remembered being in the company of my fellow Dead heads that everything was cool!

Second night...was so excited after the first, my friend Tim couldnt go so i took another friend called DOPEY he had a bad ass 70's GTO we were so fucking tooted during suger mag he kept grabbing his chest saying he couldnt breathe, then the acid kicked in, i thought he was gonna have a heart attack...but what can u say ONE MORE SAT NIGHT was and is stil is my fav DEAD JAM we were flyong home in his GTO i thought all the white pole/exit signs were people along the freeway outta philly to Lawrence TWP NJ where i grew up among a great many older hippy deadheads stoners. Always loved it when Jerry \would play Rider College where i grew up and Bob Wier was with him and the crowd SHOUTED GRATEFUL DEAD thru like 10 jerry tunes, then Jerry played the day they drove old dixie down , and busted into a set of DEAD SET which just come out around then....

Is the Spwctrum still there? I know they renamed it, but ur right i saw everyone from aerosmith to Zepplin there, u name it i saw them, but u always appreciated the DEad, only acts that were in the same leaque was the stones (i quickly dumped them as my favs after my first dead show) and Zepplin. But the Best was how much more WILD the Dead shows were back then, 20,000 deadhead screaming/whooping lined up before entry u could hear them city blocks away, all the way to front street....

Was about 5th row Phil's side & during Jack Straw, Bobby broke a string while playing. No one even noticed as they just rocked on out to end set 1. *Jack Straw ~ Weir plays on through it with a broken string. Not sure but this may be the only time I ever saw any of them play with a broken string. It was very noticeable to the eye being up close but my ears didn't hear anything different, the tune sounded perfect & they played it REALLY HARD. Set 2 was a real TREAT. The band always played well in Philly & seemed to enjoy it there at the ole Spectrum. One of my favorite places to see em because they liked it there & played great every time. Friday night's show was HOT...! This night, (Saturday), was a tad more laid back but still packed with energy.

Second night of a two-fer road trip for me. Again not remembering much except explaining to my host Tom's mother that the Dead play different sets each night, and I had the two lists to show her. We hopped in the Camaro and high-tailed it back to NH the day after this show. Had to get back to school.

The end of this Fire on the mountain is soooooooo off the charts. Jerry sounds as if there is no way he can bring it back to end it with what some call the Scarlet ending. OMG its rip roaring
