Holy S#%*! It’s the COMPLETE Europe ’72 Box! On Over 60 Discs!

    $450.00
    Europe '72:
    The Complete Recordings

Hey now! Due to overwhelming demand, surprising even those of us with huge faith in the Europe '72 project, the entire limited edition run of 7,200 boxed sets has sold out in less than 4 days. We thank you beyond words for your support and belief in this unprecedented and wonderful release.

After lengthy discussions, we've decided we don't want to deprive anyone of this music, some of the finest the Grateful Dead ever performed. Of course, we're keeping to our promise that the boxed set and all of its accouterments will not be made available beyond these 7,200 boxed sets (and wait until you see the case in which the music is housed, the hard-bound coffee-table book, plus all of the other cool surprises we've been unearthing!). But, we're going to offer just the music, all 22 shows, more than 60 CDs, more than 70 hours of music, each show housed in its own packaging, for the same price as the boxed set, $450 including domestic shipping. Although perhaps not as cool as the boxed set, the bottom line is that the most important aspect of Europe '72: The Complete Recordings is going to be made available to all, the music.

Because you dared dream this might happen one day… Because you went down to the Gypsy Woman and offered up your first-born to try to make it happen… Because there are enough passionate Dead Heads at Rhino/GD who thought it might be cool for this to happen… It’s happening! Coming in September is a gargantuan, beautifully designed EUROPE ’72 MEGA-BOX SET containing ALL 22 SHOWS of what is arguably the greatest tour the Grateful Dead ever played, on a whopping 60+ DISCS (over 70 hours of music!). Bet you didn’t see that comin’!

Really, at this point we probably don’t need to lay on too much hype about how wonderful the music is: Chances are, if you’re even considering buying a copy of this stunning box, you already know how amazing the Dead’s tour of Europe in April and May of 1972 was. To review briefly, though, the Dead’s first tour outside of North America took them to all sorts of historic and unusual venues in England, Denmark, West Germany, France, Holland and even tiny Luxembourg. Many members of the Dead “family” came along on what was really an extended working vacation that was designed to both expose the Dead to new audiences and also reward the band for their unlikely conquest of America during the preceding two years. As a hedge against the costs of the nearly two-month trip, the Dead’s label, Warner Bros., paid for the band to lug around a 16-track recorder to capture the entire tour… and we’re glad they did!

This was a band at the top of its game, still ascending in the wake of three straight hit albums — Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty and the live Grateful Dead (“Skull & Roses”). It had been a year since the lineup had gone to its single-drummer configuration, six months since Keith Godchaux had been broken in as the group’s exceptional pianist, and this marked the first tour to feature Donna Godchaux as a member of the touring band. There was a ton on new, unreleased material that came into the repertoire in the fall of ’71 (after “Skull & Roses” was out) and during the spring of ’72, including “Tennessee Jed,” “Jack Straw,” “Mexicali Blues,” “He’s Gone,” “Comes A Time,” “Ramble on Rose,” “One More Saturday Night,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Looks Like Rain” and Pigpen’s “Chinatown Shuffle,” “The Stranger (Two Souls in Communion)” and “Mr. Charlie.” (Sadly, this was Pigpen’s final tour.) All those future classics were interspersed with songs from the aforementioned “hit” albums—such as “Uncle John’s Band,” “Brokedown Palace,” “Cumberland Blues,” “Casey Jones,” “Sugar Magnolia,” “Bertha,” “Not Fade Away,” et al — and then were topped off by loads of big jamming numbers — the Europe ’72 tour produced spectacular versions of “Dark Star,” “The Other One” “Playing in the Band,” “Truckin’,” “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider,” “Good Lovin’,” “Lovelight” and even the early Pig chestnut “Caution.” And that’s leaving out a truckload of other tunes, too! There wasn’t a clunker show in the bunch, and many are acknowledged today as classics. No doubt you already have some favorites.

Through the years, there have been a few releases of material from the Europe tour—starting with the 3-album Europe ’72 which knocked our socks off in the fall of that year, and followed many years later by material from a pair of German shows and the fantastic 4-CD Stepping Out, culled from the group’s eight shows in England. Incredibly, though, only one full show from the tour has come out previously: the excellent 4/24 concert in Dusseldorf, Germany, released as Rockin’ the Rhein in 2004.

Until now, that is. Jeffrey Norman, who has been the primary mixer of Dead archival multi-track material for the past 15 years (Fillmore West ’69, Ladies and Gentlemen…, Rockin’ the Rhein, Nightfall of Diamonds, etc.) has spent many months toiling over the 16-track masters from the tour, and will continue working on the mixes through the Winter and Spring, employing the high-tech Plangent Processes transfer and restoration tools, trying to get every show to sound “just exactly perfect” (as Bob Weir says) for this release. You might think you’ve heard that intense “Dark Star” > “Sugar Mag” > “Caution” from Copenhagen, but I guarantee you’ve never heard it sound this alive! Mastering to HDCD specs is two-time Grammy-winning engineer David Glasser of Airshow Mastering. Needless to say, all the songs that turned up on previous Europe compilations will be appear in their proper show contexts, and in the case of songs from the Europe ’72 album, without overdubs that were added later (where possible).

The packaging is, as you might expect, first rate. Each show is its own Digipak, with its own liner notes by top Dead scholars (including David Gans, Steve Silberman, and Nicholas Meriwether) and attendees of some of the concerts, and many never-before-seen photos. Additionally, there is an enormous book worthy of coffee table treatment featuring hundreds more photos and a comprehensive essay by yours truly (Blair Jackson). The box will also contain other memorabilia and ephemera from the tour.

A rough sketch of the potential packaging.
Check back soon for more product images.

At $450, this clearly will not be a box for everyone. In fact, this individually numbered boxed set will be limited to orders placed with a maximum of 7,200 boxes produced. As a special bonus, the first 3,000 orders will receive a personalized copy. Due to the huge manufacturing costs (wait 'til you see it! We're doing something unlike any other boxed set release ever! It's exceptional!!), we need to hit 3,000 sales before we even go into production. If we don't reach 3,000 by April 1st, the boxed set won't be able to happen. This isn't a gun-to-your-head sales pitch. Rather, we want to be open with you about the realities of this release's massive scope and ambition.

    -->

So dig deep, raid the penny jar, take a weekend job at Jack-in-the-Box, beg your kindly ol’ grandma for some of your inheritance early… Yes, it’s an extravagance, but jeez, you (or your loved one) deserve it! This is way cool.

    Day 8....
Day 8 of "life after the E72 box". Some thoughts. (1) Sound quality. Sounds super to me. But, I'm no audiophile. I have pretty low end equipment and get my best sound from my Iphone, so maybe my opinion can be easily dismissed. I can hear the difference between Steppin Out and the 4/7 and 4/8 shows and can understand why some prefer Steppin Out. But I also like the sound of the new E72 versions, and I think a case could be made that the Steppin out versions sound a bit more manipulated and the new versions have a more natural sound. I love both mixes and think its a good thing to hear different mixes. The music is so blindingly great its hard for me to pay too much attention to the mix, frankly. Makes me glad I 'm not an audiophile. Grade A (2) The Box. I admit when I first saw the box sketch months ago, I hoped it would be like one of the Columbia Miles Davis or Coltrane metal boxes- those are fantastic boxes, if you havent seen them. Rugged metal construction and excellent CD holders, also compact size and convenient booklet format. But that would have made the set preposterously heavy and probably sent the price over $1000 or more. Its a well made, economical box. I love the way it looks more and more each day. Grade A. (3) CD sleeves. They are low quality, no doubt about it. Not such a big deal though. Grade C-. (4) Accoutrements. Excellent hardcover book. Excellent essays in book and on sleeves. Great artwork, better than any previous boxset, except the classic Fillmore box art. Does any one really care about extra ephemera? When was the last time you "enjoyed" that little cardboard hat and guitar from the JGB set? Grade A-. All in all Grade A. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.

I tried ordering this the day it went up and , like most everyone else, the site was down. I sent my email reservation but received NOTHING, until yesterday afternoon when I got the announcement that it was going on sale! Now it's sold out! I've been a loyal customer to this site, bought all the DPs and Road Trips and everything else and now I'm getting screwed on this release. And I only wanted ONE. For ME. Not to resell! These idiots should be ashamed of how this has been handled.

I signed up to reserve a copy yesterday and, of course, I have no confirmation on weather or not I'm in the first 7200 or not or if they got my reservation or not. Please get your shit together. I'm being as civil as I can possible be at this point. Blair Jackson posted for people to calm down because there were plenty to be had and he was so wrong he should give up his copy to someone less fortunate. Just saying.

Okay, so I got an email from Dead.net on Friday, 1/21 @ 9 PM EST announcing the E72 box set. I submitted my name and email address within 10 minutes and got an on-screen confirmation that my submission had been received and that I would get a response via email within hours. Having heard nothing by Saturday, 1/22, I logged onto Dead.net and saw the announcement that there had been a screw-up and that people should re-submit their names and email addresses. I did so that afternoon. It is now Sunday, 1/23 @ 9:55 AM and I have heard nothing in response to this second submission even though, once again, I got an on-screen confirmation that my transmission was successful. I am now wondering if I have zero, one or two box sets on reserve (I have a sinking feeling it is zero). Needless to say, this is no way to run a railroad.... What is really insulting, though, is what I read on Dead.net when I logged in this Sunday morning, 1/23, and learned that the E72 box set had sold out: "... we're going to offer just the music, all 22 shows, more than 60 CDs, more than 70 hours of music, each show housed in its own packaging, for the same price as the boxed set, $450 including domestic shipping...." Why should anyone pay the full box set price for the CD's only? If you want to sell the CD's only, that's okay, but there should be a substantial discount from the price of the full box set. Maybe those people who never heard of the full box set before the notice was posted that it had sold out would not mind paying $450 for the CD's only, but please think about the people -- such as myself and the many others who have posted here in the past two days -- who thought they were reserving the full box for $450. To us, $450 for just the CD's does not feel like a good deal. On the contrary, if feels like a slap in the face. In the unlikely event that I actually qualified for a full box set but have not yet been informed, I will complete the purchase at $450. But there is NO WAY I am buying just the CD's for the full box set price.

Some people got emails regarding the release before it went on sale???? I didn't know anything about it until I saw it mentioned on a post regarding the latest Road Trips!!! I've bought 2/3-3/4 of all releases from this site and I don't qualify for a pre-release announcement?? The more posts I read the more I scratch my head about the whole thing! Why do they have to limit the release to 7,500 when they know so many fans want it that were screwed out of getting a copy due to whatever the problem was. If I was lucky enough to have have a copy reserved(Who knows since I've received NO email regarding this of ANY kind), I sure wouldn't mind if more copies were made available so other FANS could have one!!

People, please grow up and act your age. You can still order the music, you just don't get the extras. Extras- BIG F'ing DEAL. Order the music and quit acting like cry babies. For Dead.net to offer the music for those who missed out is a great option. Don't worry about the trinkets.

Been a loyal customer for years, been trying to order the E72 box since day 1, signed up for the reserved copies, never got any confirmation, read BJ's patronizing message about calming down and being patient. You guys must be as cynical and jaded as the GD were by the '90's to now offer less for the same price and fall back on the "it's really about the music" jive when it's really about milking it.

wow, I think if you have an email confirmation from deadnet, you are good to go, please, everyone be cool, have a little faith, tptb have decided to keep the release going after the 7200, who cares about the packaging, it's cool but it's the music that it's all about right? Yes, it's all screwed up again, but name calling and demanding and just being unkind ain't the way folks. "If I had the world to give, I give it to you..."

Correction to the last sentence of the fourth paragraph in my post, above, which should read: "To us, $450 for just the CD's does not feel like a good deal. On the contrary, IT feels like a slap in the face." Also, I would like to know whose bright idea it was to limit this box set to 7,200 copies? Way to misjudge the demand. All that this artificially low cut-off number has accomplished is to ensure that the lucky few who got in on the box set purchase can make a lot of money if they want selling their set on the secondary market.

Personally I submitted two different email addresses, that this has "sold out" is a bit premature (dead.net is using that term loosely IMHO). I don't want two copies, I just wanted to be sure I got notified at an email address where I'd be sure to see it. Keep in mind that there are not 7,200 confirmed orders, only that they got that many people (distinct email addresses?) to say they wanted one. They should say that the limited edition has been spoken for. I doubt that all people who expressed interest will actually follow through and place an order.

I don't get it. I reserved my copy the afternoon of the 21st (less than the "4 days it took to sell out" -- of course, they still have the reservation page on the website), and have never heard anything, so I assume I lose out too. But in reading the last few pages of posts, it's obvious that a lot of people, having heard nothing, made repeated reservations. My guess is that if and when Dead.net gets its shit together, it's gonna find out there are a whole bunch of orders that will not be honored. Of course, given how unbelievably wrong they were in estimating demand, I suppose most of those people will buy the extra copies if they actually are offered them, and make some $ off them. If these people didn't control the music that we all love so much, I'd never have anything to do with them again.

Rhino Records is one of the biggest corporate entities in the music world. If this were the first fiasco, that would be one thing, but it's the umpteenth time. The ineptitude and unprofessional aspect to it all is stunning. Yeah, thanks, Bobby, Billy and Mickey for selling the whole catalog to these clowns. As for the "grow up" comment, well... oh, just never mind. I have more rants but I'm going to take 24 hours to cool off and try to calm my mind.

Well you guys have succeeded in making some people a lot of money and alienating a whole bunch more. You could have limited it to 1 per household- for the first week, or even for the first 48 hrs! Then, if no one was interested, open it for "investors". We've all got the music anyway. The only thing that makes it attractive to me is the packaging! I was lucky enough to be able to afford the limited 1969 release and EVERYTHING else you have released up to this point, but this is just silly. This is like being out of town for the weekend the prom was announced and my long-term girlfriend agreeing to go with an exchange student, and on top of that giving HIM that blowjob I have been waiting for all those years! Heartbroken? Maybe an exaggeration but definitive proof that you are only in it for the money!

Hello fellow deadheads: I guess I am one the few who had a seamless process ordering. Got my confirmation yesterday, passcode this morning and success placing order. I hope this gets resolved soon hate to see all the grateful heads losing out on this opportunity. I also think they really underestimated the demand for putting this achievement together.

I agree with Uncle, we need to chill out just a little, of course we are all frustrated, and when i say all im talking about the band, Blair Jackson, the IT guys tasked with setting up the checkout box and thousands of us heads. It is frustrating and you know that we have some heads working on it so let them do there thing and have some faith. As for the name calling and complaining etc, it is what we all want to do but it doesnt help these guys get it sorted. I do not think that the band had any idea that so many people would be willing to shell out $450 so quickly, look at the original announcement, they were worried that they might not be able to get the original 3,000 sold so that they could even get this thing off the ground. Just as with thier music "they are not the best at what they do, they are the only ones that do what they do" that is exactly what is happening here, this has never happened before and they did the best they could, Im just glad that that they are still the only ones that do what they do and they are making this 60 disc release a reality. Wholly S@#t they are releasing a 60 disc box set. I think it just hit me for real! I also think that some people may have double ordered. If so please only take the one or if you take multiple do the right thing and sell it for face, we have a majical 7,200 out their. Keep the music playing. Dont give up hope, these guys will always find a way to come through for you...

I'm so disappointed I never had an opportunity to buy the fancier version of this product. I received an e-mail dated 1/21, 2:00pm, that was my first notification of the product's availability. I tried to buy it 36 hours later, and it was already sold out. That was less than 4 days, obviously. So some people apparently had more lead time than me, and I'm so sorry I cannot purchase the original, full product but have to pay the same price for an inferior box set. Make more! I feel lied to and cheated, which is not the Dead community way.

OK - here is my story - any help on understanding where I am at appreciated.Tried many times the first day the set was available and got the dreaded system fail every time after I added name, address, credit card info etc. Then saw that they were instead taking email addresses online....and managed to get this done and got this email which reads in part: -------- Dead.net - thank you for ordering Europe 72 Thank you for supporting our very special release Europe '72: The Complete Recordings. This confirms that we have received your order. Your credit card WILL NOT BE CHARGED until Europe '72: The Complete Recordings ships this September. Please keep this confirmation for your records. Order Information Order Number: DNXXXXXXXX (edited by me here) Order Total: $450 Quantity 1 Personalization Entries: (no data entered) ----------------------------------------------------------- But that was all I got - now I am, hearing emails about "codes" and successful transactions.... Emailed customer service and just spent a long wait on the 800 number and, although it appears I have a set reserved I never gave credit card info and all I have is the order number above and NO "code" or further direction with what to do next. Here is the email response I got (quickly, thank you) from customer service: -------------------------------------- "We are surprised to hear that you did not enter any credit card information. We are certain you will be contacted when the final orders are being placed to add credit card information." ---------------------------------------- Currently I was promised a call back from the 800 customer service number when "management" returns to work tomorrow (MON). . But man - can anyone confirm or not (or tell me if they are in the same boat) whether I got a set reserved or am I out of luck here? WHat's the deal? Thanks! PS - as with many of you I am a long time purchaser on Dead.net and so grateful to see all this great music being released. The frustration - very similar to what I have been hearing - is that I got online the minute after (OK let's not exaggerate - it was 6 minutes after) the site was accepting orders - then had about 10 fails in trying to get through to the end of the ordering process - which, as we all know - was followed by the taking down of the ordering function and replaced with a "send us your email" message. SO did that and am now confused by the range of responses I am hearing here. Ugh -

Dear Dead I live in the UK and have been buying your box sets for years (Since "The Golden Road"). I realise that the shipping costs on this box set will be high - but I don't care I would love to own it (music only version of full release). Even a download in Flac or a USB key version (a bit like the Beatles collectors edition that came out a couple of years ago - lower shipping and production costs!) would be very nice. Please, please, please - I have done the hard part and begged my wife for permission to spend the money. Don't let me down - let this music come home to Europe - It will be appreciated. So do you think that as part of the 60+ discs they will re release the original Europe 72 on vinyl?

I received a code this morning via e-mail, with a link to a "personalization page" for the E72 box set. Went to that link, entered the code, and was able to enter the personalization info. What followed was the standard procedure — credit card info, address, etc. After all that was completed and I hit 'Submit', I was taken to a confirmation page...FOR THE ROAD TRIPS SUBSCRIPTION! I ordered that last month! No sign of my having ordered E72! Called custserv & explained, and they promised me a call back tomorrow (Monday) when "management" returns. What gives?

I think that they are trying to di the right thing by unlimiting the availability of the music and by rights the music only option should be cheaper. But if they offer it at a much cheaper price, many of those with box set orders are likely to cancel them and go for the cheaper option. The result would be total chaos.

I love all the apologists chiming in to defend the debacle that is the E72 box set release: "It's just about music." "They're doing the best they can." "The packaging is just trinkets, who cares?" "Name calling won't help." "Grow up." Puh-leeze. This box set is a multi-million-dollar BUSINESS venture. Do the math: $450 * 7,200 = $3.24 million. Also, $450 is a lot of money to many people. When the dollars are this large, we have right to expect better. If the box set had to be limited to 7,200 pieces, then here is what should have happened: There should have been a lottery system that required people to register on Dead.net. Entries should have been restricted to one per COMBINATION unique IP address, home mailing address, AND credit card number. The entry period should have been announced broadly and left open for at least one month. Then, an independent firm should have been brought in to select the 7,200 winners. Alternatively, in the absence of a lottery system, there should have been 7,200 individually numbered box sets AS WELL AS an open-ended amount of non-numbered box sets. I would not have minded paying $450 for the full box set without a limited edition number on it. However, as I stated above, it is insulting to offer just the CD's at the same price as the full box set. As much as I would like to have this music on CD, as a matter of principle I will not buy just the CD's at the $450 box set price.

People don't worry if you didn't get the first email announcing the Europe 72 box set. I got the email reserved it I thought and still got nothing. I've ordered everything from this site and I may be done. Im waiting to see how many people bought numerous copies and with now sell them for thousands on eBay. I highly doubt that between the time I got the email and the time I reserved a copy they sold out. Now they want to sell me the music only for the same price. I don't think so. Nice job guys, way to ruin it.

Is there a deadline to reserve the just music version? I want to know whether I was successful in reserving the box set or not before reserving the just music set.

also, if they offer the music only at a cheaper price, they would be "putting it in stone" what they thought the extras are worth, now think about it, that would be a really bad marketing ploy. The first 7200 get the goodies and the rest get the music, that's the incentive to order early, and I think it's a great incentive, that being said, they should have made it a bigger first release and had the site ready for the rush, but that is in the past, can't change that now without really throwing a monkey wrench into the gears. It's kinda like the good old days, those willing to stand in line (sometimes for days) got front row, there are only so many front row seats. Think of the "formally the Warlocks" shows in Hampton, stealth shows, not that much talked about outside of the community, if you were lucky enough you got in, if not, damn, maybe next time, but I'm sure there wasn't a riot outside when there wasn't a ticket to be had I bet nobody was outside the venue screaming that they have a right to see the show. Oh wait, that comes later..... "Extra's, who's got an extra?" "I need a Miracle every day..."

hey all some of us where real confused by all this and entered more than one email address I'm sure (just in case of it not working) I have a friend who entered four email addresses and has been on this thing since the 19th and he only got 2 codes sent to him. On the order confirmation email it said that the code must be redeemed by Feb. 1 2011. Obviously he wont buy two cause you cant be greedy over something this special...but that mean that atleast one personalized first run 3200 set will be available for somebody!! think of how many other people are probably in the same boat, and now think of all the extra copies being made available after Feb. 1....Keep checking back everybody, I'm sure there will be some extra box sets with all the goodies to be had for the diligent and faithful who keep checking on the off chance they may pick one up ....persistence is the foundation of success

its tempting to make a quick 1000$ off an extra box set but how could you possibly live with yourself...there are more honest ways to make money than by buying up the last few resources of something and then selling it off to the highest bidder (but this is America right, we wont the most for nothing....no wonder China's gonna be schooling us in 50 years)...the escaped circus elephant that is karma will be stampeding down our street

Will someone please update my status? I received the EMail annoucment by E-Mail this Friday at 10:01EST. Luckily I saw it within minutes and hobblled to my computer (my back was out) and entered to reserve a copy. The next morning I saw that people should maybe resend their reservation which I did. It is now 38 hours since I reserved a copy and I have received no E-Mail. On Saturday custoemr service said to allow for 48 hours to get an E-Mail. Now I hear the offering is sold out! Can someone please let me know If my reservation may still be good? The E-Mail i submitted is the same one associated with this Dead.net username of greatnorthspecial. As others have said, I have never whined before, and I won't whine now, yet this was really was handled poorly whether I end up getting a copy or not. There should not have been a 2 day gap between the E-Mail annoucements. Thank you.

One of many who received the original email on 1/21 at 6:00 pm. I entered my information same day a little while later and commented here yesterday. From the later comments, I guess I missed out, as I have not received any email after leaving my information twice (second time after seeing a pop-up after signing in advising of "technical difficulties". Sell out in 4 days? I guess it was two days. Not much chance for many of us who really would have enjoyed the box set. I really hope the bulk of the sets were not sold in orders of mulitple copies all of which will show up on ebay this fall "just in time for the 2011 Holidays!" It would have been a treat!

This limited edition stuff is NONSENSE - particularly when orders are taken pre-production! If 30,000 people want to buy the set, take 30,000 orders! I attempted to order multiple times on Day 1, but as is not unusual for dead.net, the system was down and I could not order (your website is historically very, very bad). When I finally was able to try to order - SOLD OUT!. Though now I do have the "opportunity" to purchase just the discs for the same price as the full box. No thanks. Horrible management decisions that drive customers aways. Ridiculous.

I know some won't want to hear this but got my email, registered, got my code number, ordered got my confirmation for personalized copy. It seems that some have had severe problems and some of us have had really good luck. How can some get a seamless process and others have to jump through so many hoops and still not land on their feet? Hope the guys who say that people who have multiple ordered but will only be taking one are right and that those who have lost out at this stage will get a break further down the line. I also agree with the guys who are saying that the sold out may only apply to the fact that 7200 have registered to buy but have not necessarily completed all the stages. Some of these guys may balk at the last minute, again releasing some copies. I shall now proceed to untangle the entire universe.

To those that are saying stop crying, grow up. This entire process is luck and has nothing to do with following directions or doing the right thing. Most normal people would expect that when they are told fill this out and you will get a reply actually would get a reply. My GD collection is extensive and this would have been a great addition but because dead.net can't get their head out of their ass people like myself will lose out unless of course I pay $3000 for it on eBay next year. As far as the music only for the same price, take that and shove it. I'm also tired of hearing from these trust fund nim rods. Just because you step in the ring with Ali doesn't mean you know how to box, the same way that just because you've Jerry sing on a cd doesn't mean you know anything about The GD. Nice going dead.net, get your act together. "How the he'll can I arrest him, he's twice as big as me"

Glad to hear there is a Sept. ship date. Don't understand the hype behind the preorder on this one. For poorer deadheads: Your CC will not hold your $450 but, personally. I'd have the $450 available on 8/1, at least. For even poorer Deadheads, if this really is a limited 7200 edition like Fillmore 69 then it is indeed an injustice for those with the credit to order multiple copies and those that can not, living paycheck-to-paycheck, left SOL. Personally, I missed out on Fillmore 69 and was disappointed with the 3 disc best of so I'd hate to see that happen to anybody.

Can someone from the site please confirm if confirmation e-mails are still being sent? If I am going to get hosed, I would like to just know it. If I haven't received an e-mail, does that mean its over, or might my "reservation" still be on its way? Thanks,d

If you got an email that said you have a reserved a copy means that, shocker here, you actually have a copy reserved. Just because you have not gotten an email saying you will be getting a code, or you have gotten that email but have yet to receive the code, does not mean you are not good. Common sense says that they based the 7200 being sold out on reserved copies, not just people that have actually gotten all of the way through the process. So, seriously, where is the benefit to acting like my 3 year old when I tell her she can't have more candy? As a few others have said, I am sure there will be more of the full boxes available. I like a few others got my original order through and also as a backup sent in my email to reserve a copy. I am just waiting for the code on the 2nd copy. I am going to give it to my brother if he can get the money on his card in time to order. If he can't I will back out of the reservation and it will go to someone else here. I can assure you, there are many, many people who did this. There will also be people who did reserve a box whose CC's will not go through, and these sets will go back out to the masses, just like a concert presale. So, just sit back and see what happens. For those that didn't get the email yesterday that are complaining, well...kinda tough, sorry to say. I did get an email on Wednesday. I think the main reason I did was because I signed up for the RT subscription, so a little unknown bonus. Even if I didn't get it, I come to Dead.net everyday so I would have seen it. I didn't even see the original email until 7PM that night. So there was plenty of time to get in. By coming on here and calling people out (like Blair J.) just makes you look like a whiny, spoiled fool. I have no issues with people who think the process (having ordering go down, etc.) has been a mess, because it most certainly has. But at least make your rants and criticism somewhat constructive. Getting on here and screaming on how you got screwed, and the Dead and Rhino are bastards, and all that nonsense, once again makes you look like an ignorant, childish, spoiled fool. For those that keep throwing the money thing out there (the 7200 X $450 crap), once again use a little common sense. Do you think that all of the mastering, production of the cds, cases, books, etc. is free? Really? Now, I 'm sure they are going to make some form of profit on this, as that is what for profit businesses actually try to do. But it will be far less than the $3.4 million the finance whizzes are throwing around. Really, in the end, you still have the opportunity to get all of the music. If you would have told me a week ago that I could get just the shows for $450, I would've taken it in a heartbeat. I think it is great that the Dead and Rhino are charging that, since it keeps the integrity of the box for those that jumped on it from the get go, and it shows that there is value to appreciating the efforts people make to deliver something special (which was stated from the get go, that this was a special, limited package), without having to complain about and crap on all of the hard work and dedication it takes to make something like this a reality. So, let it all play out, and be thankful that you have a band and employees that provide these opportunities to share in this wonderful and historic music. 99.9% of the bands out there do not do things like this, so don't be foolish and take it for granted.
