"The long run of shows the Grateful Dead performed in the Fall of 1980 at the Warfield in San Francisco featured some of the most exciting, dynamic, and talked-about concerts of the Dead's performing career. During this unprecedented 15 night engagement, each of the shows included three full sets of music, the first being acoustic Dead, followed by two electric sets. Remarkably little has been released from these shows, and never a complete set. Our 2019 Record Store Day title features two complete acoustic sets from the run, on back to back nights, containing 19 spectacular acoustic performances." - Archivist David Lemieux
We are serving up "Cassidy" (10/09/80) and "Bird Song" (10/10/80) from THE WARFIELD, 10/09/80 & 10/10/80 for your listening pleasure right over yonder. Like what you hear? Warfield 1980
Wondering if this means there will be a large box set coming eventually of the Warfield/Radio City complete shows? Surprised they would limit this CD to 6,000. Trying to locate a store to purchase the CD.

That's what I'm hoping - the 2 LP/CD feels like it might be a "sampler" in advance of a bigger set.
1980 Warfield and Radio City Shows
A megabox of the Warfield and Radio City Shows is my dream box too, and post the Europe 72 trunk the box that I most hope to see one day. That said I do recall hearing several years ago that the process of assembling the Dead Reckoning and Dead Set albums back in 1980/1981, had left the vault masters a bit of an unlabeled jumble of songs mixed from across the nights and that from a completist perspective there appeared to be a few holes of songs that either never were recorded with the fancy album level equipment, or had been lost.
I don't think these would be an insurmountable barrier to an as complete as possible release, but it does mean the production process could be starting 5 steps back of where it usually does and the time, energy, cost, love, and devotion necessary to make it happen could be even greater than usual.
All that said the fact they are releasing two complete acoustic sets is definitely a very good sign. I just picked it up and can't wait to go home and have a listen to this fountain of music that actually was made by the hands of men. Here's hoping this portends more good things in store.
Warfield RSD
Why isn't the CD version available here to purchase? Bummer to miss out on yet another one.
10/09 & 10/10
Does anyone know if any of these songs from the 2 shows made it onto Reckoning?
re: Record Store Day 12th Anniversary
Well, I managed to get a cd copy even though the record store was quite a distance from me. I ended up paying someone $50.00 to drive me. We were told to get there an hour before the store opened. We arrived two hours early and there was already a line although not as bad as it was later on. The store received five copies total and I spent two hours standing in the freezing cold and rain while already trying to recover from a cold fearing that I'd miss out. Please, PLEASE sell the next Record Store Day cd release on Dead.Net like you did with Family Dog and 11-18-72. The release is pulled from 2 track Betty Board tapes and seem to have been returned in that last batch as the same people are credited. Jack -A- Roe from the 10th is the only song from the two sets to appear on Reckoning.
Edit to add: The list price was $19.99
got shut out this AM
If anyone wants to unload their cd and/or lp set pm me or direct me to where I might obtain one. I am interested in having both. Thanks a lot.
Digital release, maybe?
For those of us who had to work today.
For that matter, it’d be nice to have all the Dick’s and Dave’s Picks available digitally so there’s a viable option to scalpers.
Umm, it’s about the music
Since 1980 Warfield Acoustic releases have become so frequent, it makes perfect sense to limit this to 6000 copies only available at a record store. Supposedly 6/10/73 will soon be released in a limited edition of 150 and the lucky few are decided by a cage match battle royal. Guess I’ll have to sit that one out...Fortunately, today’s bounty was claimed by merely showing up early to a music store (and hoping) for the golden ticket. For some reason this model reminds me of the scene from Wonka where Veruca’s Dad directed his warehouse to unwrap an infinity of Wonka bars to uncover a golden ticket. When did peace and love turn into a scramble to find the joy?
Acoustic Dead
Sounds REALLY GOOD. Great companion disc to Reckoning. I understand the limited edition vinyl releases. I think its cool to have something valuable to collect or trade if people are interested. But C'MON DEAD.NET. the music should be available for everyone, birds, bees and trees. Being a Devoted Head would probably be EVEN MORE popular if it wasn't so Elite. there is medicine in this music, LISTEN TO YOUR FANS!
Got one
Didn't get to the store until 11, and they were packing up half of what they had left overall to drive to another branch. But they invited me to check through what they'd packed to go, and I grabbed one of the two copies of this left. Extraordinary. It is a shame the edition is so limited.
RSD - WARFIELD 1980
Yea, this is a nice 2-show acoustic sampler....but I'm surprised they haven't announced the WARFIELD '80 box Set for this year, maybe soon ; )
RSD 2019
So I picked up a vinyl copy a few days after RSD, and gave it a spin. WOW. So nice, so warm. If you love acoustic dead, then this is a must. I haven't really heard much more from these runs other than Reckoning, so hearing all the songs, but just different, you know, just different Jerry licks, etc., was so soul satisfying....!!!! Has anyone bought and listened to the cd? Do they sound awesome, too???
Got mine on Amazon -it's still there
