    Mike, yeah I posted yesterday that I was now downloading at 8 MB/s; entire download in about 45 minutes. ZIP file comes in corrupt however, three times I tried. I have run a command line winzip utility against it and was able to extract everything, so I have it and I'm listening; it's 192/24 for sure. I'll download again when they get it all worked out.

    You're not the only one. I'm still waiting in Australia as well. A few guys down under have already received copies but mine has yet to arrive. Could be today, could be June.

    That is exactly the issue. Why? The gripe isn't with box set design or the music being released. It isn't with the choice between the all music edition, the limited edition or the availability of the HD download option. The frustration stems from YEARS of botching the shipping, damaged product, haphazard placement of discs, poor planning on the mounting process of said discs, discs missing altogether. My E '72 box ended up in France. I don't live in France. I live in VT USA. Other bands deliver their product smoothly and consistently. Downloads don't fail and discs aren't missing or damaged. The product doesn't show up looking like a car accident with a stamp on it. As I said before, one can overlook mistakes once in awhile, but this situation is very much habitual. Certainly, one can begin to feel like we are suckers and expected to put up with shoddy merchandise and general handling of a purchased product. For all the folks who espouse patience and refer to people who receive damaged goods as "snowflakes", why not got to a restaurant, order your meal, get an incomplete, cold meal altogether and have it presented to you by the server dumping it in your lap? Because this is pretty much how it feels. Kinda doubt you would keep going to that same restaurant again and again. It's disrespectful toward paying customers to have these same issues for years in a row. If I were Rhino, I'd be embarrassed.

    5/7/77 was pretty good I dunno I actually liked the echo on the vocals and I'm finally listening to 5/8/77 and it seems have a better mix than other two but still the other two needed to see the light of day I've been wanting these shows to be put out since I found out about em on nugs.net in 2002.

    The question remains; why are there issues like this with nearly EVERY GD vault release, but rarely with other groups involved with similar projects and releases??

    Music Never Stopped from 5/09 ~ goodness gracious. I didn't think they hit it this hard pre-'78. I sat (not still) in my driveway in pure bliss last evening to let this song finish ~ have no idea what any passing neighbors might've witnessed, all I was aware of was Jerry Garcia. Promised Land/ Sugaree from 5/05...gems, gems, and more gems. Don't know what's up with the reverbed vocals ~ but I'm in. They project a live ambience that soundboards too often lack, and everything in the mix meshes so well that I can't find fault. Betty should really get some kind of an award for these recordings ~ not only do you hear each instrument, but the full, layered depth of their interaction is somehow captured also.

    Totally agree w/ you
    I am completely satisfied and immensely happy to be replacing my old, worn out DATs with this box set (although I will be keeping the tapes!). It is well worth the price, and I'm glad I jumped on it right away. Much kudos to the folks at GD and Rhino for putting this together. They definitely raised the proverbial bar pretty high with this one!

    And congratulations on yet another excellent box set. Best GD box set ever, IMHO. The packaging is simply beautiful and totally unique. I was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of pictures, thoughtful essays, and visual memorabilia in the accompanying books. Of course, the best part is the pristine sound and excellent level of playing in these 4 shows. I'll be playing and re-playing these discs for a long time to come!

    The music, and quick update
    I called yesterday about skipping disc 2 from 5/5. Within 24 hours got email saying they will be emailing replacement. Pretty painless. First off, listening to these shows 40 years from the dates has been awesome. They truly showcase the band as the improvisational masters they were, reinventing every song every time in some delightful manner. I am grateful for this release and it's funky packaging etc! I was curious other people's thoughts on the reverb in these 77 recordings. I do not own the other May 1977 box set (anyone willing to sell one at reasonable cost???) but own much of the Dead catalog. I find the reverb on the vocals on these shows to be almost too much, similar to the Grateful Dead Movie soundtrack. I love that 5 CD set and often turn to it over others. Interestingly I believe the movie was completed and showed in 77 as well. In some ways I love the extra reverb, feeling it makes it sounds ever more like a true concert hall, and really helps the harmony vocals. The reverb sweetens and mellows the overall sound. I have yet to listen to the new box set discs on my best stereo but at times on my lesser stereo the reverb is just a bit much. Anyone noticed this? Thoughts on it? Ways to diminish that through audio settings? JJ

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

Hi there,

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

You should ask on the Dave's Picks 30 thread…there's more people on there and very few if any on here…hope it helps.

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

Hello,
I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
