So…if you’re still interested, I have a box of 64 tapes ready to ship after culling the herd. All Dead, mostly 80’s. I’ll even pay postage, just want to see them go to a good home. Let me know, but I am not very tech savvy, (it was hard for me to even get to where I could post this), so please be patient.

You can probably get an estimate of shipping costs by measuring the approximate weight and size of the box they would fit into. Naturally, as you say, the destination is also a factor.

The size of the final package will determine the price scale which increases in steps by weight.
There will be a price scale for domestic shipping, and different price scales depending on overseas regional codes. The codes often seem to be determined as much by postal infrastructure as they are by proximity.

These rates should all be posted on the website of whatever delivery service you choose, be it USPS, FedEx, or whatever. These days some services have better coverage in different regions, while another is better for a different region.

For example, when I ship stuff to the US, I use a courier service, something like UPS, but when I send things to Europe, it's better to use a Post Office product.

For another example, back when I was trading blank tapes and postage for someone to dub shows for me, I put the tape in an envelope, weighed it, and bought the return postage for that envelope before including both the stamped return evenlope and the tape into second package, which, of course, also had to have postage. So, if all you're asking for is postage, that's totally reasonable. The only hold up is that no one knows how much the postage will be yet. It's hard to put your hand up and say, "Me," under those circumstances.

Another concern for international shipping is whether eyebrows will be raised at customs inspection, but there is no way to predict that. Essentially the tapes would be a gift with no commercial value.

I suppose collectors more knowledgable than myself could probably guesstimate the weight based simply on the number of tapes, but if you can somehow weigh the boxes, a ballpark figure should be just a few clicks away. Then, if someone from Kansas, or someone from Germany, or like myself, from Japan, or wherever, shows interest you can quickly refer to the chart and have an idea how much they should expect to send to you. You don't want to settle on a price, and then find out that isn't enough to cover shipping, right?

It also saves you packing everything up, taking it to the post office, and then having the buyer back out because postage was far more than expected. I reckon people would like to know what they're getting into before going forward. Personally, I imagine it's gonna be more than I can afford right now. Can't spend money I don't have, regardless of the quality of your collection. However, at this point, even if I was seriously considering your offer, imagination is the only thing I have to go on. See what I'm saying?

I completely agree with you, these vintage tapes could still provide a lot of joy to someone.
A lot of people still listen to tapes.
It would be a travesty to have them end up in the garbage.

It is over 300 tapes; closer to 400.

I would like a decent home for this carefully collected batch of tapes.

I don't know how much shipping would cost as it is a large collection from the late 1960's to the early 1990's. I suppose it depends on where you are located. I am in California north of San Francisco.

There are JGB tapes in the collection as well.

A lot of effort went into this and money too.

If you cannot pay the amount necessary to ship it with the Casio cases that they are in (its about 6 of them full), I don't know what to suggest.

    Thank you for your interest.

Pretty quiet around here, I see.

At the moment I'm extremely short on spare change for shipping, and raise that the question of international customs' interest in, or perhaps ignorance of such content. I do find myself salivating, but ya can't spend what ya ain't got.

Hopefully you can hang on to them until a more stable enthusiast turns up.

Roughly how many tapes are there?
What do you reckon domestic shipping will be?

Might be easier to find a taker if they know how much postage will be needed.

A lot of people probably filled up while the Internet Archive was still open trading on all formats.
I for one still have a tape deck, sadly didn't binge on the Archive when I could have, and can't afford the string of limited edition official releases that are so tantalizing.

    Good luck!

I'm looking for fancy, hand drawn or early computer Grateful Dead graphics J-cards (tape covers) for this show. If you have what I'm looking for and you don't want to part with these J-cards would it be possible to take good pictures and send them to me or flat bed scan them and email them to me. Or can you recommend a computer program for cassette tape covers, or send a copy to me? The ones I have are very plain, printed ones with no graphics or color at all.

Looking forI followed the Boys in 2009 from Wilkes Barre to Denver....7 shows in 12 days!! In Hartford, I purchased 2nd row tickets from dead.net through the charity auction. I got a signed tour poster signed by all the members...plus Warren Haynes. It was my most prized possession!!! About 6 months ago, my home was burglarized and 3 things were stolen.....cash, my college class ring, and my Dead poster. I literally weeped. I don't care about the class ring but I am desperate to replace my poster. I'm hoping a FAMILY member can help me out? Maybe you and your partner got two posters? I am willing to pay a "more than fair price" to replace it!!! PLEASE HELP!! Todd in Denver. PEACETerms of Service

Hello, do you still have your tapes available? I would love to take them off your hands. If so we can talk about more details if you email at gulatherogress@gmail.com

I have gathered some tapes, and I would love the chance to expand my collection. I'm only 25 and I hope to one day pass on whatever tape collection I mange to gather to the next generation of heads who haven't been born yet.

My collection is around 600 tapes at this point, and I want it to keep growing. My girlfriend and I are slowly organizing and cataloging the tapes we have. I have many head friends in the area that I share with as well.
If anyone still has their collection of dead tapes that they would like to add to this collection, which I hope will continue to be passed from older heads to younger, please hit me up.

The aesthetic of the tapes and the connection to the band and older generations of heads is very special. I would really love to preserve this feeling and connection for myself, my family, my friends, and for all the many heads who have yet to be born or converted yet.

I will cover the shipping cost. Just email and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

about 30 years ago, I had a cassette with, among other things, a demo of Throwing Stones. It was just Bobby singing and playing a clean sounding electric guitar. I no longer have that cassette. Does anyone know where I can find a cd or mp3 of it?

I'm also trying to get some tapes. I know that every show ever is on archive online and on the app, but I love tapes.
I have an old truck with a tape deck, and recently acquired a decent tape deck and receiver to enjoy the tapes to the fullest.

These tapes will be enjoyed by a total of 11 deadheads ranging in age from 19-27.

Please help out a generation of young heads stuck in west Texas. Very little dead love in these parts.

If you want to work something out for the tapes please email me.

I am curious about this and am sure it exists in written form somewhere, I just can't seem to find it. What is the official policy for trading in shows that have been officially released? Specifically, I am wondering about the ones that were released officially but are out of print. Seems to me that if they are not for sale currently, we would not be costing the band money by trading those shows. Just curious what the official policy is on this.

I have two full cases of Dead bootlegs all of good to very good quality, for cassette tapes. Were you still looking for tapes?

During my tape trading days I made tape cover art for almost all of my 600 tapes. This activity was --and still is -- a big part of my life journey; my identity. I would NEVER throw away my tapes!

I wrote an article about it a couple years back for Relix. Here it is: https://relix.com/articles/detail/tape/

And here are some examples:

I am scolding myself for commercializing this post, but just so you know. I sell these on puzzles, shirts, mugs and posters. Please head over to Shmogger's Den to check them out! (You can also find me sometimes on Shakedown Street.)

Years ago, one of the bootlegs I had, had a guy very distinctly saying, "Hey eh, this is great eh?" during a low music point. I'd love to hear that show again. Anyone have this? My guess is that it would be an 80's show.

Recently was given a couple boxes of dead tapes from a guy who went to shows from 70-90...I don’t think I have interest in converting them and am curious to see if anyone has/willing to pass along some tapes from years I am missing?
I would love to get anything from the 60’s (Warlocks included)
70, 72, 83, 86, 87, 88, 92, 93, 94.

If anyone has any info on where I could get them that would be great. I know I can get them off line but it’s definitely not the same. Thanks in advance for any input!

I am looking for tapes or digital recordings of the 6/5 & 6/6 1982 acoustic shows with Jerry and John Kahn from the South Eugene High School gym.

I was a sophomore at the University of Oregon with my (now) wife. We have great memories of the shows and would like to relive them. There are recordings of the shows on YouTube, but decent digital or tape recordings would be really nice.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Now, family! My online shop, SHMOGGER'S DEN (www.shmoggersden.com) (www.etsy.com/shmoggersden) offers jigsaw puzzles of my old decorated tape covers.

I also have shirts, mugs and posters of my tape cover art from 20+ years ago. Furthur-more, I make the same sort of setlist art with computer graphic design. Shmogger's Den is the only place for tape cover puzzles in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!

Seeing as how we're all gonna be self-quarantining, what better way to pass the time than with GD-themed puzzles? (Oh yeah, and Phish too!)

On the other hand, puzzles are great for parties, with friends working together on different sections of the puzzle. People stroll by, place a few pieces, and stroll off. The whole group feels a sense of satisfaction when it's done. Will the group finish it before the party favors run out?

Any Shmogger’s Den Puzzle will spark up your living room, and they make UNIQUE GIFTS for your jamband friends or relatives!

Here are some examples of tape cover art / setlist art / song-themed art from www.shmoggersden.com:

This Shmogger's Den Tape Cover art was created circa 1993 and festooned a tape of the legendary 6/7/77 show at Winterland. (Roses added later.)
