Spatan Oktoberfest, I'm pretty sure my dad has some crappy Milwaukee's best light. LOL and then four (Yingling) it doesn't deserve a proper spelling

It's aged in rye whiskey barrels and flavored like a Sazarac. I tried the Boulevard Rye on Rye on Rye and loved it, so I thought I'd try this. ABV is over 10 so that always makes me happy.

I never tire of a good west coast IPA: 12 Gates looks good, although a brew from Buffalo called "west coast" seems unusual.Once every 5 or 6 weeks I get my mitts on Pliny the Elder; otherwise I'm happy with Odell IPA and more recently Voodoo Ranger from New Belgium. Also from Fort Collins, Zwei Brewing has a Willie Nelson IPA that is very good. A friend brought me a big can (crowler?) of it last week. Closer to Denver, in Lafayette, Odd13 Brewing has been making good hoppy beers. When I lived in Kansas, I really enjoyed their seasonal brews. Rye on Rye and Bourbon barrell Quad really packed a punch! February will bring more stouts and porters: Denver's Dry Dock Brewing has a chocolate peanut butter porter that is really good.

I agree west coast and Buffalo don't jive, but the taste is what matters. I have yet to taste Pliny the Elder but have heard great things. Voodoo Ranger is very good as well. Have you tried Space Kitty Double IPA from Rohrbach in Rochester, NY? I'm still searching for that elusive feline....I hear it is sublime.

It's the "West Coast" of NY state which has beach front on 2 Great Lakes. Never been there and haven't tasted the beer. Bell's makes Third Coast Beer, since Michigan is almost all lake shore.

I tried Pliny the Elder for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing. I was kind of burned out on IPAs, but this one has renewed my interest.

That's Founder's right? They make a nice tropical tasting IPA, I think it's called Azacca and it comes in cans. The 15 pack is a nice touch as well. Their Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale has been a warming companion on a few snow shoeing trips. It'll warm you right up on a chilly morning...but you have to be careful it'll hit you right in the booboo.

Pliny the Elder is brewed by Russian River Brewing Company, Santa Rosa, CA. Still haven't found it here in WNY.

I may be berated for this thought: Pliny is frankly over-rated. I think it is an extremely good ale, and one that I would certainly drink regularly if it was available in the DFW area.However...here's the "but"...I truly believe it is over-hyped. I've had the pleasure a couple of times when visiting NoCal to have a few...and it's just not the best ale ever, or whatever I've heard proclaimed. I'm not even sure what my "best ale ever" would be, as there are so many excellent ones out there, and Pliny would be among the ones I really like, and would love to have it in my frig, but.... just not worth the buzz it gets. just my $.02.

My wife and I muscled up to and onto some bar stools at Russian River one night long ago in Santa Rosa, CA. I was anxious to get a fresh pull on a Pliny and was actually disappointed. I liked their Blind Pig better that night. Here in Steamboat I've been fortunate getting the 19 oz Pliny the Elder bottle that is fresh and consistently good. Now that February is here, be on the lookout for Pliny the Younger. It is a rare brew I have yet to taste, as it's hard to find and only comes in kegs. A 3 hour trip to Denver or Fort Collins may be in the works just to find a glass or 2 of the Younger: will advise

Beer ,BBQ & music, what a great combination. Today I will be BBQing andouille and chorizo sausages, and baby back ribs. I'll be drinking Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, it's deliicious, comes in at 9.0 abv. The music will be GOGD and blues . I never tried Atomic Torpedo but I love Sierra Nevadas regular Torpedo. It's 10:40 am, time to start the fire and crack my first cold one.

I have been meaning to try that one Ice Cream Cone Kid. Last time I went to the store, they had it in stock, but as I recall it was a bit pricey. They may have been asking close to $20 for a 4 pack or a sixer. I can't recall, but I will look into in next time.

Speaking of beer, I was recently impressed by O'Fallon Brewing Co.'s Dad's Cookie Stout and Shiner's Candied Pecan Porter. I also picked up some Saugatuck Brewing Peanut Butter Porter yesterday and I was liking that. Comes in cans.

Ever had beer for breakfast? :-)

As posted on DaP41 Colo.'s only can producer raising their minimum order by 5x shutting out small breweries. Guess I'm glad I usually buy bottled. What's this old world coming to, things just ain't the same?
Cheers anyway!
