"When we began discussing audio projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead back in 2012, we knew we wanted to do something completely unprecedented. We could think of nothing more exciting or ambitious than a career-spanning overview of the band's live legacy focused on what best tells the story: complete concerts. Our first criterion was the very best live music to represent any given year in the band’s history. We wanted to make sure that there were not only the tent-pole shows that fans have been demanding for decades but also ones that are slightly more under the radar, but equally excellent. For those who listen to the entire box straight through, chronologically, the narrative of the Grateful Dead's live legacy will be seen as second to none in the pantheon of music history." - David Lemieux

Please note, this is the Music Only edition of 30 Trips Around The Sun, which includes all of the music from the boxed set, with each show in its own individual digipak. You'll get a total of 80 CDs and over 70 hours of prime Grateful Dead.

This release probably isn't very "limited" or TPTB wouldn't have moved it from the "Special Edition Shops" to the main music page.
And I can only get to the DaP28 page via the "Special Edition Shops" DaP page. ..
Guessing that TPTB feel the DaP series has all the audience it needs and can be buried were only those who dig in will find it.

I wasn't able to afford the box when it came out, but have been able to get everything since. If it's still here, I'll buy one when I can!

Has the precedence been set on the All Music Editions to release the Fillmore West 1969 All Music Edition to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the shows? Thank you.

    a pleasing development IMO
I've spent about $600 via Ebay getting 14 of the 16 shows I really did want from this box. so this comes too late for me.But I hope we can count on more of the big boxes getting music-only editions in the future. I have no room in my life for all that packaging. Still, I can't throw it away or mistreat it once I have it. If 30T had come out music-only before i started my Ebay odyssey, I would've jumped on it! I went with the 3CD Northwest 73/74 instead of the box because Of the same arithmatic as led me to skip 30T (discs that didn't interest this over-70s-saturated Head, a big opt-in cost, and all that packaging and stuff). But I might pay $190 for 6/26/73, 5/19/74 and the other 4 shows!

I don't think these are replacements. They did this already with Europe 72, GSTL, Cornell vinyl... It seems that when they see something with a value to be re-released they will do it. So limited in the future will only be the edition.

I wonder if this release is part of the original 6500 box sets. The shows that came in the box had no shrinkwrap. These sets are shrinkwraped. Perhaps they are replacement copies. Why are these becoming available now? Did WARNER lose a particular wherehouse site or is this something of another nature? This window pane is not as translucent as it should be. Maybe some things don't need to be explained. Maybe no one cares. Sorry to rant, just curious.

I have read some reviews of this box set that lamented that some of the longer segues (e.g. 1981 Sailor>Saint>Caution) are split between two discs. Does anyone know if the flac versions have these same fade-outs?

I was one of the very fortunate few who, tipped off by a poster on this site, recently acquired this off amazon in cd-only format for $700. Billed from WEA, it was obviously "found" or released warehouse overstock. Fitting that they put it out there for the same cost as digital-only here. Brand new discs each individually sealed in plastic.

Continuing on in my ever-evolving listening habits, I've greatly enjoyed the latter era shows much more than I anticipated. Having focused on Pig and Keith-era only, for decades, I appreciate so much more the later era sound and 99% of it I am hearing for the first time and there's nothing quite like that.

Viva la Dead!

Previous complaints about other downloads were that the downloads were copies of the CDs and contained out/in fades.

I’ve never understood why this organization doesn’t comprehend the concept of a seamless transition.
It’s not like they couldn’t contact Charlie Miller and ask him to teach them how to do it.

Does anyone know if this "Music Only edition of 30 Trips Around The Sun" is still available for sale on Dead.net ? It seems like I saw it out there a few weeks back and now when I went to see if I could get this during the Holiday sale I can't locate it anywhere. If anyone has any information on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, ~ B ~

You're lucky they didn't take your money. They took orders for months but did not ship a single one. I ordered a few back in July and August, and on FIVE DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS they sent me the wrong orders. I either got a single show, or Lights 6 sweatshirts each time.. where one sweatshirt or one show was supposed to be a $750 boxset. They won't talk to the warehouse people, give regular updates to buyers, or do anything. We just sit around waiting for boxsets that will probably never arrive. Don't ever buy from deadnet again. They are just awful!!! It's happening to everyone too and they don't seem to care enough to fix anything month after month..

Hi 97BlueStrat,

Thanks for the update on the disaster with the "30 trips box set music only edition" and so sorry to hear of your situation. Did you ever get your copy or get a refund? I've had decent luck when I've ordered the box sets on Dead.net in the past, but when I received a damaged Dave's Picks #32 back in November 2019 and requested a replacement, I've been waiting ever since. I bumped my issue up to Doc Rhino with the help of MaryE and most recently received an email stating that replacement stock for Dave's Picks #32 is now being sent back to the Rhino office for distribution.

I am still interested in purchasing one of these "30 trips box set music only edition" box sets, and I'm bummed that this version of the box set is no longer being sold.

If anyone has an extra one for sale out there in Dead land please let me know.

Thanks!
