In the New York Times for June 13th, the Pentagon proclaimed that Afghanistan holds almost one trillion lira - no, sorry, that's one trillion dollars - in hitherto-unknown mineral wealth. Allow me to offer these revelations: (1) Paris Hilton actually is Albert Einstein, with a wig. Think about it - you've never seen them together, have you? (2) The Moon is made of green cheese. Specifically, a lovely Camembert, slightly fruity, that goes very well with cabernet. (3) While you were at work today, someone broke into your house, stole everything, and replaced it with an exact duplicate (apologies to Steven Wright). $1 trillion dollars in mineral wealth in Afghanistan. What a lame excuse for a lame excuse. But the interesting thing is that the Pentagon felt it necessary to serve up this fevered imagining. Why? Because they say that they need another $33 billion for the war by July 4th, or, or, or, I don't know - they just say that they need it. And for once, Congress isn't falling all over itself to give the generals whatever they want. So get ready to hear about lithium in Afghanistan, oil in Iraq, and diamonds in your bathtub. With 14 million Americans out of work, support for endless war is crumbling. People want an America that is #1 in health, #1 in education, #1 in quality of life, not #1 in number of foreign countries occupied. Send an e-mail to your Member of Congress. Ask him or her to oppose the "emergency supplemental" for more and more war. Hope. Change. How about some peace, for a change? Courage

    Hey now Boulder Heads
Here is a little something to do this month - The Grateful Dead was one of the most prolific bands in American history, and they left behind an artistic legacy that exceeds their extensive musical output. Drop by PosterScene, 1138 13th St., 303-527-2701, after 9 a.m. to take a look at their Grateful Dead Poster Art Show. There will be concert posters, handbills, photos and more to look at and purchase. This is a great opportunity to commemorate your favorite Dead concert. This event will be happening throughout June and it is open to the public. It didn't appear that the actors were at all drunk and it was an unusual way of presenting a rivalry of scientific peers 100 years ago. Who would have though? Tesla was an electric Jesus and Edison was his own evil twin. (Whoa, I'm freaking myself out here)

I love the way the actors do their lines too, in this "Drunk History" to the cadence of the drunken narrator. I've always liked John C. Rilley ("Walk Hard" is awesome) but this propells him to a new level for me. And I was once a regular contributor over on rottentomatoes.com where a few of us talked of the possibility of a new bio for Ole' Nikola and someone mentioned Crispin Glover (if memory serves - which it doesn't more times than not anymore) playing a part of one kind or other. I would have loved a more legit version of a Tesla bio but in some ways I think this 5+ minute video is perfect.

Grtud - tapped into this just recently too. The 17yr olds were laughing their asses off and I was curious. Man, I love how the actors mouth the drunk narrator's words. This is my fave so far, though I like the Cera Alexander Hamilton as well. Franklin is too graphic for me! "I'm inventing electricity, and you look like an asshole!"

Did anyone else read that worldwide use of Spam has dropped 70% in recent months? Any ideas why? The experts...the Spam experts..are dumbfounded! And by use, I mean consumption. It might still be used for, um, other things.

Good luck to the Green Bay Packers!!! Too bad we have to listen to FOX TV announcers...The best thing about the game is usually the commercials, bought at the record high amount of $3 mil for a 30 second spot. Plenty of activities in Dallas TX today as The Pittsburgh Steelers go for a 7th football trophy. Speaking of FOX, did you catch the Bill O'Reilly grilling of President Obama in the White House?

Question: Does your DVD of Alpine suck? I "upgraded" my VHS to DVD some years ago. I don't remember my VHS being so crummy although it was nothing to cheer about. My DVD appears legit with the Monterey art that looks like others I have. The sound is good, but the images is blurry and the colors harsh. I realize it's not Hi Def but the quality of the picture is poor like it was shot on an 8mm camera. What's been your experience with this Vid??? Flame please...

We were witness to a most inspiring and magical event last night in Madison, Wisconsin. Jackson Browne performed a solo acoustic set. One man, one voice and 20 acoustic guitars. this was not an ordinary event, with the songs you heard on the radio back in the day....but rather a momentous occasion of support for the things that matter most in the lives of everyman. He has a vision and a spirit that flows with most all of us, and the perseverance to travel across this great land and further the education of our society, through music, words...and the spirit behind which you cannot help but be drawn in, to a better life, on a better planet, in a better space. My hats off, and my immense respect, Jackson, for you vision, your communication, and most of all your tenaciousness, in making this a better planet for all of us.

A message from Neil Young..."2012 will that record companies release High Resolution Audio. This is huge for our industry. Since the advent of the CD, listeners have been deprived of the full experience of listening. The spirituality and soul of music is truly found when the sounds engulfs you, and that is just what 2012 will bring. It is a physical thing, a relief that you feel when artists and producers did when they created it in the studio. The sound engulfs you and your senses open up allowing you to truly feel the deep emotion of the music of some of our finest artists. From Frank Sinatra to the Black Keys, the feeling is there. This what Record companies were born to deliver and in 2012 they will." Inspiration. A wonderful thing.

So 19 of the many Islamofascists who want nothing more than to murder innocent Americans once again attacked the WTC on 9/11/01, and succeeded in killing thousands of our fellow citizens...Luckily your humble writer, altho it was a close call, was not a victim for a second time... Then, a few years later when I was posting on the DNC forum, and praising "W" for his efforts to keep us safe from those sick savages, my posts prompted numerous online attacks by DNC neo-libs ...They clearly didn't like "W", America, or me!!! It was at that time that I read many idiotic comments, including "W" was a complete failure based on the fact that the unemployment rate was hovering at around 5%, and he was sending troops into Iraq because the people there had "brown skin", etc.... Now, about six years later, unemployment is at about 9+%, and since coming into office Barry Obama is sending drones into the area, and has sent tens of thousands of troops into the Middle East to kill "brown skin people" in even more countries, including Libya, Yemen, etc.... SURPRISE!! SURPRISE!!! Not a peep from the "Deadheads For Obama", et al... Anyone care to take a wild guess as to the reason(s) why ?? If it wasn't so sick, it would be funny...

OR -- You lost somebody in the Gulf whom you're still grieving for. As somebody who has carefully followed your posts on dead.net, I'd say the last one seems like a cry for professional help. You're entited to your own opinions, but not your own facts. Try this fact:: Under "no controls' Dubya, Goldman got to Sec. Treas. Paulsen to bail out AIG who immediately made Goldman liquid on ALL it's hedges. Then Congress poured it on with unprecedented bailouts and now, 2 years later, we aren't in a great depression because of Obama (though we have cash-rich corps with human rights unwilling to invest in this country) -- despite of everything. You can't blame Obama unless you're willing to blot out 8 years of the Dubya, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice regime. I think you've broken with reality and need help. I urge you to seek it as soon as possible. If you are a vet, get help. If you're in a family situation with dysfunctional vet., get help!

I'm guessing it's in the state of Washington (Rainier?); I know it's not on the east coast of the USA, nor in West Virginia, which does have a few big mountains.
