My First Dead Show
Great Show
Terrapin
Terrapin
A very satisfying show, but after "US Blues" my two friends decided to head back to the car; we'd been on our feet all night on the Winterland floor, and they were ready for a joint break. "The show's over anyway," they said. "I got a feeling it isn't," I replied. "You never know with these guys." They split, and five minutes later the band was back, carefully stepping through the opening bars of "Terrapin Station," which became a twenty-minute "rare and different tune," brand-new music which held the remaining audience spellbound. For years I thought it was the first-ever "Terrapin." Now I know it wasn't, but that doesn't change a thing for me. Returning to the car afterward (yes, amazingly, they waited!) all I could tell the guys was, "Well, uh, you all missed it."
