Since we're all going to have a fair amount of spare time on our hands for the foreseeable future, what about starting another thread where we all listen to the same show/release on a given day and then share impressions afterward? Folks can submit suggestions and one person (not me) picks what we'll all listen to - call it Deadnet Picks or something. Anyway, if this idea is deemed to have merit, I'd suggest one of the loyal regular posters take the lead and do the picking - y'all can decide who. Might be fun. If it does go forward, I nominate Dick's Picks 18 for the first listen. Been talked about here lately, and, had it been a single show rather than a compilation, we'd probably be talking about it in the same conversation as Cornell, Veneta, etc. Or perhaps even Gainesville?? Stay safe and healthy, friends - this planet needs as many Deadheads as possible.

First time was at the store one night, co-worker (read kid) says, hey, try? Sure, I say I'm a veteran of the smoke wars, I've burned it all, what the hell. Bathroom, bong and WOW. I stood at the counter just putting price stickers on stock, trying hard to be invisible to customers.

Well that was then, this is now. Just like Carnegie Hall, it takes practice to master the concentrates :-) About all I smoke now. Great item for work since it has virtually no smell. But now I smoke it like it was just rolled product. Hard to beat a big hit off tall glass first thing in the AM,,,, know what I mean? :-)

BTW,,,,, Glass 41 came yesterday,,,, looked very nice. (three more of these glassess and I think they'll look better that an axe!

GreatStory, saw ur posts over on E72, thought of posting something there but then thought just wait till 42.

As far as1988,did Miami, Pete, NO. It was a nice little run. More tomorrow.
Hope all well your way. Jim talked about 10/15 might get some Phish listening instead. Ouch and Ha Ha!
Sure hope it doesn't disappoint me.

I love Phish, but still listen primarily to Dead related stuff.

Need to go back and discuss stereo stuff.

Am glad you guys are so deadicated.

Every time I get too busy, all kinds of stuff goes on here, it must be a conspiracy; )

Shatter, or some super high concentrated stuff?
This was more sticky/gooey and we just stuck a little on top.
Well, one of the first times I tried it, I’m sitting on the couch with the other half who is not a partier, has never burned etc. So I felt like oh boy, think I’m gonna have to lay down (mind you I’m sitting on the couch) but didn’t want to freak her out. It’s one thing to be too high, but quite another dealing with a nervous civilian at the same time lol.
So I had to say something or she’d freak out. Like, “I’m ok, just need a time out” lol.
Yeah, that stuff was too strong. Definitely a “it’s only a drug, just have to ride it out” moment for sure.
My grower guy at the time was passing out free grams. He actually snowboarded into this job site (he’s a programmer so only needed lap top in back pack) and started passing out free samples.
So next day or so after all the folks working there who had by now tried it all saying similar funny stuff. Luckily nobody had been driving.

10/9/89: it’s funny you mention that one. I was not tripping much in those days and hadn’t at those shows (unfortunately) but I remember coming out of the Hampton spaceship and feeling like I was tripping.
Maybe contact buzz from sharing Js, but I don’t think so…interesting. Maybe they sprayed us like Shoreline 90?

10/15/88: I’m behind again but I’ll put it on the list. I was at those shows and seem to recall having a good time but feeling the shows were sorta status quo? I’ll have to check them out! I know when I finally heard Miami years later I was kinda blown away, and the 15th does look good. The 16th might have been I was burnt by then so not feeling it?
I also was just hanging out in the back…
Thank god for the archive, I’ll have to check em out!
Man that was a SCENE there in St Pete’s! It was wild how there was all that empty land down there and they basically let us take over. I fondly recall they put in out door showers with no curtains/covers and how nice it was parting at my buddies van watching all the cute lil DH gals getting neck-ed without any hangups!
My buddy who was camped right by a shower had drove his Dark Blue van that had a giant turtle spare tire cover on it. Inside he had three large blue tanks of medipure gas! Which led to the ballon driving incident (already told so I won’t repeat)
I can still see it: lounging in the warm beautiful FLA afternoon sun with plenty of killer Js, cold frosties and balloons just watching the girls frolic in the shower! Ahhh, such memories, Dead dreams to another land!
    ,
Yeah, that trip was a gas, literally and figuratively. Three dead shows then a week of Golf and beach down in Naples.
One of those you needed a vacation after your vacation!

4/12/78: hit that a couple days ago. Definitely a good show, but perhaps slightly off for THAT tour?
I haven’t checked em all out yet, but still feel like 4/15/78 (DaP 37), both Fox, especially 4/11/78, and perhaps 4/16/78 are tough to beat? Would love to hear others thoughts about this tour.
Spring 78 has turned out to be a huge pleasant surprise for moi. With all complete Beatty’s in the vault you’d think there might be a box there, though the set lists are really repetitive.

Also gave 4/2/82 and 6/9/92 the quick and dirty at work treatment.
4/2/82 was decent, status quo for that tour which is really starting to grow on me!
And boy 6/9/92 is damn near as good as the previous night, even without the big set list.
That GOGD sure can pick em! Cool still finding good shows after 91.
    Have a great WE y’all!
Good to see ya and hear your doing better Gary.

and it was a good one, lots of freaks, downtown closed down and camping all over the bayfront center and all around the venue. Lots of doses, goonies if I remember right. We were dosed pretty good for night one and the place was packed. Started the 2nd set with a cool little spacey thing, a great Crazy Fingers too. Lots of folks there for Bob's birthday the next night and we stayed up all night long celebrating Bob and the Good old Grateful Dead. Stayed at a hotel right next to the venue the first night, the hyatt if I remember right, the 2nd night I stayed at a motel down the road and I partied with strangers all night at the pool until the security guard came out and said "it's 3 am, don't you guys ever go to sleep?" big fun.

Think I am going to take your suggestion and listen to St.Pete(Tampa) Bayfront. Found the nice board you recommended. Cant wait to listen to again later today. Hard to believe that I have not been to Archive in 8 years or so. Since going official release and having Sirius GD channel, I am drowning in riches of my favorite band and music. As is known, I am a all era man. Bet this will be a delightful re-visit,maybe with the possibility of new discovery. Mind Blown.

Real quick, back to the PigSmoke, I was actually perusing thru E72, looking for a E72 PigSmoke. Didnt see any on the disk set,so went to Deadbase, found there wasn't an E72 PigSmoke. A bit revelatory for me. So I stumbled on the March 25th date in the song list for Smokestack. Was floored that it was the Angel's private party with some friends. I may listen to that Smoke again before I put it up for now. It is such a sad statement to have Pig's last Smoke. Priceless Gold toMe.

ooopshedoobby Im in tatters, shattered shattered. Yeah it is translucent amber colored, and it is potent. I have to write about last dose I took at my last show. I actually got right to the point of freakout and considered getting help and leaving the show. I took two small hits, like creeper, it expands once inhaled. I got so high and such a rush, I had to sit down, watch my friend work on a dragster (car). I sat down and told myself, "Self, this will pass in a minute." Only time THC rivaled a strong sugar cube (cube was 1989-10-9.)

I will write about more of this stuff later.

So glad I found my way back. I look at E72-50th and see so many fresh faces (to me) posting. Probably wont buy any of this, but you never know,my weaker side may prevail.

    Again thanks guys.

I didn't notice this was a pick, I thought he was giving a shout out to Lemieux. Sure, I am in. I am getting boosted again tomorrow so some 88 might help me kick the blues away.

I also missed the shatter reference. I've yet to try that. It's one of those concentrations they steer you towards a new device, but I hear you can break it up and put it over your weed like hash. I have also heard a few say, "it's too potent for me" Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

I am easily distracted, sorry for that. Things will free up tomorrow, I am on the back nine. If I wasn't so cheap I would hire this stuff out instead of struggling but I get the feeling others would not do a great job.

Me too.. especially during tax season.

After April 15th, with the occasional E72 show.. I hope to be more active. Thanks to all for keeping the train a rollin'. GFar, we need a new infusion of shows and ambition, good to see some 80's and 90's love, nothing is off limits here. Feel free to push your own wish list. Pick a show, the worst that might happen is we listen to JGB or Phish instead..

This thread seems to have taken the life of free jazz.. people come and ambitions flow and ebb.. in the end, someone suggests a show and so it is. Thankfully, there has been great cooperation and very little hate.

    and do it is.

I do have a tax question, if there are any accountants out there. If you throw your wife's cigar box full of tax receipts out the window and nobody hears it hit the ground, did it really exist?

Thanks. Was a bit confused about #42. Know that will be a doozy. Cant wait.

Been in 80's and 90's for a while as I tweak stereo. The clarity of #40 is amazing, some good jammin also. #40 really shows clarity and shows how good the sound was. Incredible advancement. Buddy Guy had really good sound but didnt compare to the last shows I saw, and that was 33 years ago. Bear/Dan (and all others) really pushed sound way beyond what most engineers understand today. Wow.

Generally the commando days are long gone. As with many other things... might have bought my last ounce as medical now legal here, but probably not.

    Anybody else heard of "shatter?"

And I too remember the long gone days of European import beer, now in my hometown we have 5 brewers and they are very good, Still, for now, Newcastle is my choice for a splurge,

Speaking of which, how about an old-fashioned Saturday doubleheader assignment in the hopes that we may actually see some baseball being played one of these days? I'm getting a little tired of watching games from 10 years ago, especially since I bet on the outcome and still lose!

So, Weir's "Ace" album (Saturday is the 48th anniversary
of the release date) and Garcia's first solo effort? A good set of headphones highly recommended for this listen. PITB on Ace is an absolute tour de force - the quiet section coming out of the jam is pure sonic butter. And the pedal steel work by Jerry on his album is some of the finest ever recorded, IMO.

Hope y'all are in good health. Stay safe as we ease back into "real" life, or some semblance of it.

48th Anniversary Weir & Garcia Double Header Saturday sounds fun.

Sounds like good music to come down on after friday's 5/15/70 50th Anniversary Trip!

Not seeing a pick for today, so I'm gonna pop in 5/13/72 this AM to get the anniversary theme trip started.

What about you all?

Mine arrived yesterday, so that was my pick of the day followed by another run through High-Life Frodo.

So, 5-11-77 and/or 12-29-77 for today.

The Garcia/Weir doubleheader is a great idea. I've never spent much time with either album, even though I know I should love both. Also, I just got a pair of quarantine-headphones and this will be a good opportunity to give them a run. And a 5/15/70 friday -very sweet.

....I can't recall the last time I cranked Ace. Forgot BT Wind had horns. LOL. It's a good record to turn to 11. Garcia's 1st and 5.13.77 to follow. Then 5.13.72 if time allows. In that order.

Now it’s 61 with blue sky and sun, and my dog wants to go outside and pee on all the neighbor’s mail boxes.

So, I’m going to wait for 5-13-77 until later today when happy hours start.
Sorry for the false start.

Anyway, people have been mentioning about recording the GD Hour as a source of cassette recordings. I only had one tape of GD Hour (I wanted full shows, even if the sound quality wasn’t as good) and it was a partial of 5-13-77, which included the Jerry solo/noodling and Other One. I was never able to find a tape of the whole show in good sound quality, so I was pretty happy when the Box came out.

Woo Hoo!

You don't have to twist my arm to listen to this show. Of the two Chicago shows, this one kicks ass.

Bob T, regarding the banter before TMNS, are we missing some of the banter in the official release? Pretty soon we will a full band here. Dr. Shot, DR. Beechwood. So great.

Man, these guys had fun, that much is for sure.

Yes, just loved the way they played Jack A Roe in May of 1977.

Love the FOTD, finish the set with the Scarlet Fire! Come on.

Second set later.

Bolo? Bolo is the person that makes little kids smile and giggle. Bolo is the person who strikes fear into the hearts of evil doers. Some say Bolo comes like the light of the morning. And like a wind, they have a name; Bolo. Around the fire at night, folks will speak of the time they met Bolo. Some in worried whispers. They're the person who gave Jerry a drink of water after an incredibly hot Fire on the Mountain. This one I know is true because I was there. Where ever you find a person looking for a “miracle” ticket, Bolo is there. Wherever a person is hungry Bolo is there with a soy burger. When you’re setting up camp the night before the big show and realize you forgot the coasters for your beer, Bolo is there. When you’ve hitchhiked for 2 days in the rain, that person that picked you up and handed you the fatty; Bolo. Bolo is an elemental being, hanging for a while in the flux between then and now. Most will be better for the chance encounter and probably will not realize who they just met.

Dark Star, and you get to hear Weir say "Thanks a whole hellav a lot" after he gets hit with a cup before encore??? Also a smoking Not Fade Away into an awesome Going down the Road... If we are burned out from Jai Alai Fronton I get it.... Bob t

Holy shit Bob T! Yes, for sure.

I have only listened to Dave's 34 once and it is really good. Such a unique show.

The MT May show from 1974 is probably now the second best 74 Dave's Picks released.

74 is so good. Certainly wish some of the early Dick's and RT trips were not complications but most of them are still so good. I get why some don't like going past 74.....
Anyway, for Friday we should try to do something other than an anniversary show......
How about 7/17/76?? Dave's #18, with bonus disc, with 7/16/76.

Now your talking. Have to spend time in the stereo room/office today so perfect, I can listen on the big boy system!
Finally did 5/7/72 a coupe days ago and wow I had forgotten what a beast this show is. Their ripping the whole show and man what a grease fest! The DS is good too, but I still like 5/11/72 better. Finally got to that yesterday. I don’t think the first half of the show is as good as others, but the last half is hard to beat, and I’ve akways had something for that DS....I had the loveliest time listening last evening; the light at that time of day, the sound and treats all dialed in, just a wonderful little respite from the current madness. A few hours of bliss. Dug it so much I stayed a little longer and broke out most of V2 Disc 2. Vault 2 has always been a favorite; awesome TIFTOO, New Potato and that monster Phil Jam....remember the first time I heard that, total mind fuck!
So yeah, I’m in for 5/14/74 today, thought all y’all were doing 5/15/70 tomorrow? and the three solos on Saturday?

I think that the plan was to listen to 5/15/70 tomorrow - Road Trips 3.3. It was mentioned by someone earlier in the week, then seconded by a number of other folks.

That being said, I am all for 7/17 and 7/16 1976 - 7/16 is my birthday, and I happen to love that release! As tomorrow is a Friday, perhaps we can squeeze in both, or save the 76 show for Saturday.

Peace

Edit: Oh yeah, Ace, Garcia, and Rolling Thunder are already lined up for Saturday... folks are jumping on dates early round here! :)

....Is in full swing.

I was listening as this is a fifty year anniversary. Any acoustic Dead is rarified.
I only saw the Dead once in Nevada, the two days in April 91. Santana was awesome as a double bill. The jam with Carlos during Bird Song the second day stands out as a high point.
I used to have all my shows listed here on Dead.net when they mysteriously disappeared a year ago or so. Lucky I have my own record marked in the 50th year Dead Base that came out somewhat recent.

RECIPE:
Just grab some bread and slap in shnid=34165 Acoustic SBD, shnid=136645 Electric SBD & Road Trips Vol 3.3 Bonus Disc and JAM! It's super Tasty and I highly recommend it.

Just about to head into some 5/14/74 WRS... Donna's double Yowl at the end of PITB startled me, I wasn't expecting two!

Looking forward to 5/15/70 tomorrow, only in Grateful Dead land would 5/14/70 be an average show..

I was at the Vegas show when people got struck. I was also at RFK '95 when some heads got struck (hanging out under a tree of all places). Coincidently, I was struck by lightning in 1975, so the whole thing really freaked my parents out! Not a fun experience people, but to this day it doesn't scare me at all.

I love the Montana recording. I lived a few years in Montana starting in 1975. The University of Montana student newspaper the Kaiman ran a full page piece titled “we asked the Grateful Dead what they think about playing in Montana”. It had a photograph of mostly the roadies giving the finger to the camera.
