Port Chester 1970
The Dead played some of their greatest shows at this venue and this show ,11/8/70 ,may be the greatest. The Dark Star>Main Ten>Dancin' jam in this show may be among the Bands finest hours. Only available as an audience recording, (and a good one) this show is a must hear must have for all lovers of the Dead.! It includes many rarities and some of the most incredible jams the Dead ever summoned! A classic!

Howdy GD folks,
This run of the cap theatre, portchester is just as good if not better than the fillmore east feb 1970 run...I don't know if this show is in the vault. It's only available from Marty's open reels. I can't remember if this show has the alligator on it as well...and I might add that archivists are not excactly clear on the early and late show billings...this show is seriously un-believable...I hope they've got this one in or part of this run in the vault...regardless of the sound quality the performance is stellar and the vibe in the crowd is really symbiotic.
I wish that for just one time, You could stand inside my shoes, and for just that one moment, I could be you - Bob Dylan, Positively 4th St.

This show is wonderful.
for years i was of the opinion that 70 and 71 weren't as good as 69 and 72-74, but this show and others have changed that opinion.
The acoustic set is amazing

Forty years of being a DEAD HEAD
I wish I had some of those old recordings. It was a great time. I really liked Port Chester almost as much as the Fillmore.
El Paso, Dark Star, Crowd
I really think the El Paso on this one is great. Bob and Jerry hit the Marty Robbins sound right on, and I like the slower feel. The Dark Star, starts off slow (meaning it seemed to be going stalling), from my first impressions. There is some crowd levity during the quiet parts, then they open up with some mad space which really led me into some dark places. So much for the levity! This mellows real nice into the Main Ten jam. Also can't beat the drum lead in into Dancin' with the tempo change. Sweet!
OK, one more night
Was at that show with Kirk B. and his girlfriend Judy B. I was the one who yelled out from the balcony before the 1st electric set "Hey Captain Trips". Learned later Jerry hated that label. Jerry replied, "This is for all you freaks in the balcony". The Jefferson Airplane played at the Capitol the following Friday night the 13th. Before a group of us left to see the Airplane, WPLJ broadcasted the complete"American Beauty". My first listen. Rolling Stone magazine ["it must be true"] wrote a review saying it would hold up in the future as an album that would be still very listenable. [my paraphrase] I need to reread that review 40 years later. Also I lucked into the American Beauty promo poster in the mid 70s. Just learned on Deadnet that Warner Bros banned it. Getting older is'ent what it's all cut out to be, but I would'nt trade my luck for being born when and where I was for nothing. Thank you Great Spirit. Also thank my brother Rick who turned me onto the Dead in 68 with "Anthem of the Sun". My dear brother who died this past June 24th. San Juan day.

The melody in grouping with the vocal liberation blue man group tickets creat a strange union of old time folksiness with post-millennial making and resonance.
