Over in the Weather Report topic that's actually about the weather, Frankly posted this and then realized it wasn't about the band. However, this provides a golden opportunity to launch a topic about this great band, so it's all good!

C’mon Everybody(Eddie Cochrane), there’s tons of bands that had multiple line-ups that were consistently good. Such as:
    Allman Brothers Band
    Steppenwolf
    King Crimson

I know you get the drift…💥🔥☄️

    I saw Weather Report during Jaco’s last tour with them(‘81-‘82). Edit-July 9th, 1981-MP Pavilion.
An opportunity I’m so glad I took advantage of. He could be a bit erratic-especially in the last 5 years of his life), but when he was on-no one could touch him.
This band reminds me of the Dead in this regard-no matter the line-up, greatness was always an expectation.
Another band that fulfills that expectation is Frank Zappa’s band. Always capable of greatness!!
I’d love to hear your ideas of other bands that had multiple line-ups, yet was always capable of great shows. I know there are many.

    Music is (always) the Best!!

but this does remind me to recommend to anyone who may have missed this band's work to check it out. Some amazing stuff. Also some names you'll probably recognize from their later work.

A Band We'll Never Hear Play Again
I saw these guys at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago in '78 or '79 and was blown away. I was already pretty into them (as well as a lot of other fusion bands like Stanley Clarke, RTF, etc). But I was used to seeing big rock spectacles with lights and lasers and whatnot, and these guys came on stage under simple while light, barely talked to the audience, and played the most intense music imaginable. That was way before I started taking pictures at shows, but I can still see Jaco in my mind's eye, standing still on a small oriental rug, his long hair in braids on either side of his head, playing this fretless bass like nothing I had ever heard before. He looked like a Cherokee warrior and sounded like God. Big loss to the world when he went off the deep end a few years later.

I saw them years ago when Heavy Weather came out. Amazing band. I also saw the original Return to Forever w/ Chick Corea around the same time."No matter where you go, there you are..." Buckaroo Bonzai
