Interesting "opinions". What was that about snobbery? Why, that pesky Rhino corporate company; stealing our money at gunpoint! Down with corporations! Oh, which computer are you using by the way? Mac, PC or homemade? "Nostalgia" or "memories" or "high times"? War lovers and gun nuts? Hey, is everyone using a different Forum to me? Am i being refused access to the next level? Do i need to get some funny handshake action going on? There's a parallel site where the Topics are governed by lizards, isn't there? Hey, let me in guys and gals! Don't shut me ou... oh, hang on, "yep, that's two Big Mac's and large fries, thanks man". "And yeah! i'll go Supersize!". Sorry 'bout that; where was i? oh, yeah...heyyyyyy, fooled ya there, didn't i?!!! 'course i don't eat at McDonalds!; i grow everything i eat, build my own solar panels, live in a cave and pray three times a day, totally uncontaminated by any them damn corporate clowns. I commented once during the height of the trash talk that it seemed like we were seeing infiltration of Ratdog.org posts, where things are often not kind at all. I like it better here...

Seems like there have been some folks out there who just don't get it. It's Ok to express your opinion but the line seems to be where you verbally blow somebody away just because you didn't agree with what they had to say. We all know that ain't cool. It's nice to have this space and it seems to be really in the spirit of Jerry and the Grateful Dead collectively. I think it certainly comes across in 99% of the posts and I hope it stays that way. Occasionally some will step over that ephemeral line. Let us try to forgive them and remember that we're all human. If it happens again and again then relegate them to the moderator's que till they get it. Mean people suck. Always have, always will. As far as people inserting porn or malware on this site, What the F**k? Don't they a choice of a billion other sites to spew that crap. I'd like to believe that, on the net, "This is where I'm gonna make my happy home! Happy home!"

The posts on Ratdog.org are usually brutal mainly towards the band and Bobby himself and it doesn't seem like it's just some jerk trying to get under people's skin, they really mean what they say. Is it frustration that Ratdog doesn't sound exactly like the Grateful Dead?? Uh yeah I thought that was kind of the point?? Experimentation, going down different musical avenues, that's what it is all about! "Everybody's braggin' and drinking that wine, I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines. Come to daddy on an inside straight, well I've got no chance of losing this time"

It was very clear going in that this was coming into being in a world where there were already dozens and dozens of online spots to talk about the Dead, including of course DNC, Ratdog.org, Phillesh.net but also lots of blogs and boards. And not just in the U.S. And they all had their own culture, even when the populations overlapped. Hence the best metaphor I could come up with at the time was that this is sort of the crossroads where all the different communities intersect and folks with a lot of different cultural expectations hang out. And, like I've said before, we've got folks who weren't born when Jerry passed, and we've probably got folks who were at the Acid Tests. We've got folks from a lot of different corners of the world, an incredible range of talents and experiences. It's a rich place and getting richer, I think, and long may it run. As two wise doofuses once put it, "Be excellent to each other," and if we stick to that plan I think we'll be fine.

I'm old time deadHead, And I'm sorry but if people have a different opinion they usually get jumped on and thats to bad. I did voice a disappointment in the way the tickets were handled this time and was slammed on it. I will always follow the dead and will voice an opinion. I can do this without being vulger. I thought ticket master did a terrible job this time, sorry it was my opinion. I look forward to the show I was able to get tickets for, however could not obtain the other shows that I wanted to attend and that was the fault of how it was setup. Oh well at least i got a ticket for one show and will have to be happy for that. Like I said I'm looking forward to that show. Sorry if this offends anyone , it is not my intenetion.

since the last time I said this is buried thousands of posts back in the tour topic: Dissent is fine. Criticism is fine. Abuse and personal attacks, not so much. In short, you are quite welcome to express your opinion as long as you don't attack or demonize other folks while doing so. Just in case that wasn't clear. I doubt any two of us are in perfect agreement on anything.

issues, but for someone to continually tell me I am full of beans (or some other brown material) is treading on that personal toxicity that is not helpful. Like Johnman said, "agree to disagree" BUT without being so disagreeable, or venomous towards the other person. It is unnecessary to participate in personal verbal attack or abuse. Dispute the facts, hooray! Express the opposite perspective, go for it! Make a case using differing information or educate me on my misinformation or grant me opportunity to hear your expertise, welcome discord, indeed! The only way I learn is if I open my mind and shut my mouth long enough to gain what others can offer. BUT, I rarely learn from someone attempting to bludgeon me with insults or chastise me or treat me in a condesending manner. Healthy debate and a variety of perspectives are welcome, in fact needed! (in my humble opinion). But if you truly want others to listen, if what you say is so significant/pressing/vital, then take the time, make the effort, hone the rhetoric to actually make the argument. Not to take potshots, nor to incite, or to lower the dialogue to a mud-wreslting event. Hey, remember Monty Python's "Is this where I go for an argument ?" "No, that is 2 doors down the hall!", "No, it isn't", "Yes, it is", "No it isn't", "Hey this isn't an argument, it is just contradiction!" (pregnant pause) "No it isn't" "Yes it is" "No it isn't" My 2 cents. ;o} The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

OK - Warning! ranting venom spewer, read at your own risk! This is really funny for me - I guess. What I mean is deadheads saying you can't say what you want, well anything negative - even slightly negative. I cant see where a deadhead posts here and can be "slammed" by other heads? We are call pretty much words on a screen here, no face, body or emmotion that maybe is real. Can you tell exactly who it is that wrote the words that made you angry enough to drop to the same level your talking (writing) about. I run into stuff like this all over rock&roll related sites (gossip, trades, boot reviews) Without going into a real stupid psychological trip here IMHO - web sites contain wierd ego! Wups - I said it. We are words on a screen here. Words written here have can have very little emmotion, even though the writer just might be cool? Can anyone really lay another human out like this with any accuracy from what is considered negative (or whatever)? I have gained from constructive critisism in all kinds of ways. I cruise through this forum enough to have not seen any hard core ranting. I'm sure it rolls through on occasion -but- it has been made out to kind of sound like skin heads (or the like) post here - no one here but us deadheads? It would get REAL interesting if haters swooped on this forum (IMHO). Please excuse this but you were warned! With that said I gotta say that I see some dorky shit wrapped into this spring tour. A Loose Lucy Lounge - with what cigars & dancing girls to go with your COOL place to chill (& buy booze) They should serve raisin sandwich's as well. Yowsa - I hope to walk out of the gorge cleansed, and if I can help it - eveyone else(including the band) will too. Let's get down to it - I miss you all & can't wait. Your friend and fellow deadhead...........Kevin Whew - I'm not saying that anyone should change a thing here - I am glad that this forum exists and that the boys have 22 shows lined up in 2009. I havent felt this way since 1995. IMHO - Fuck it! I

I want to personally thank the people that have been here along time to keep this site KIND! You know who you are, (dude I remember when it was the old planets and stars thing back in the day when dead.net was ALOT leaner), and the way you stuck up for, not only the Boyz, but other people that were getting bombarded by negativity. I think the worst was the first time tickets went on "presale" and alot of us didn't know exactly what was going on. The second "presale" went on so much better, because the "scalpers" and wannabe's didn't check back to this wonderful site after the first announcements. I've said it once (well probably more than that) and I'll say it again, "I knew that the Boyz and the "other ones" behind the scene, were anticipating this all...and have known all along that this would have happened." Also, the knew "clues" flash right when you log on looks eerily like the original dead.net on some pyramids! And I wonder how many of you ever logged onto and chatted on wemissjerry.org (back in the dayz, was that 93-98???) and where did all those kind people go? Love, Peace, and ENJOYA the shows! If you read the first 100-1000 posts on the topic "The Dead to Tour in Spring!" you will see exactly what we were all talking about, there wasn't just negativity, there was outright attacking, there is nothing better than constructive "negativity" or "opinions"....that's how we all grow. I do like what you wrote and agree with you on a lot of what you said about the net. If I remember, someone even attacked someone else's parenting skills. The venom that spewed out during the original presale was the most toxic I've ever seen on dead.net (rivaled the Discovery Channel's most venomous snake episodes....the Inland Taipan aka Fierce Snake is the most toxic .) Just voicin my opinion...and yes I always agree with the saying fuck it! ~peace~ ____________________________________________________ Will you come with me? Even lost my temper once (blush) after "moron" was written on too many times. But was not necessarily the "most" venimous episode here,, just right up there. Bout a year ago or so ago was a nasty escapade, and one "porn spammer" shocked me personally-was very very foul suprise! But nevertheless, good will and kind spirits have won out in the end, each and every time! Everybody has something different to say. I guess an unregulated forum is what the internet has become. So, we have moderators to keep the discussions civil and the potty mouths and evil-doers out. It would be a better planet if we all could just express ourselves within certain boundries, but ego is the nature of the beast. It's like the bumpersticker says: "I tried to contain myself but I escaped". Always hit the preview button and correct your grammar, punctuation and typos and reflect whether or not what you wrote is something you wish to be defined by. This site doesn't represent all deadheads, just the ones on this site who choose to write in the forums.

I have been on other Grateful Dead and Furthur forums and there is quite alot of liberal/hippie bashing going on (too much politics for me, so i left!) I didn't think I would find alot of hardcore, extremist right wingers on a Grateful Dead forum or who would be fans of the band. Also, conservatives being fans of Bob Dylan?? I didn't think that was possible either. Are they listening to the words? I guess fans are really all over the political spectrum, I just find it odd that hardcore conservatives can get into the Grateful Dead vibe.

Johnman, at least if you believe the Boss: Poor man wanna be rich Rich man wanna be king And a king ain't satisfied Till he rules everything... I have a hard time separating out my own learned-from-experience skepticism (bordering on cynicism, sure) from my inherent idealism when I start really thinking hard about government and the type of people who tend to gravitate to the political realm. On a local level, I've known some honest, fair, hardworking servants of the people. That this particular type doesn't seem to translate well further up the political food chain (can't get elected, or get elected and become compromised by the process) is just sad.
