Europe '72: The Wait Is Almost Over

The wait is almost over for Europe '72: The Complete Recordings. We're proud to announce we've completed the project production stage and the final disc tally is a whopping 73! Pressing is underway and we're on target to meet our expected ship date.

As a special project-ending taste of the boxed set, we've got this tremendous version of The Other One from 4/11/72 in Newcastle, selected by David Lemieux. He considers this to be one of the finest, most dynamic, most powerful jams of the entire tour, high praise for a tour that included mind-blowing and mind-bending jams virtually every night of the tour.

    Listen to it here.

Please be patient while track loads.

The final day of the Europe '72 project's production, on Friday, July 8, 2011, at Airshow Mastering in Boulder, CO. From left-to-right: Sam Berkow (SIA Acoustics; acoustical designer for Airshow Mastering, Mockingbird Mastering, TRI; consultant on various Grateful Dead projects); Jeffrey Norman (longtime Grateful Dead mixing and mastering engineer; bon vivant); David Glasser (Airshow Mastering; mastering engineer for Europe '72: The Complete Recordings project). This photo was taken moments after they finished mastering 5/26/72 Disc 3 and 4.

I cant wait to have this set in my possession. 70hrs of music divided by 3hrs per day of commute time means almost 25 days to get through it the 1st time. By then I will be ready to circle back through and do it all over again......nothin left to do but smile smile smile

David Glasser - for all you time and effort, millions of smiles have been produced from the previous releases and another million await this release. Jeffrey Norman - for the wherewithal to stick to a project until it's "perfect". Sam Berkow - For the wonderful sounds so far and, yet to be heard, from TRI. The Sky Was Yellow And The Sun Was Blue People Stopping Strangers Just To Shake Their Hand.

They say on schedule but what is the release date? I'm kind of wondering should i give away the regular releases since they'll be on this boxset? no sense in keeping doubles up on the shelf...obviously in an impartial sense this is one of the better tours any band had historically speaking so i know the meaning and significance of this release other than the large price but that's been said 10,000 times over.

as i was looking at the cd's framed on the wall, i of course noticed the grateful dead movie, but i couldn't figure out the one below, but i think i got it. isn't that the harry smith anthology of american music? that's so cool that one of those guys worked on it. what a wonderful set of music for those who love old time music...

A million thanks to all who have helped bring this monster project together! Although I will be grateful for my box set I still can't shake the feeling that pretty much once this is released all 22 shows will be forever gone from archive.org (the soundboards).....lost to all the people who rely on streaming much of the Dead that they listen to. Seeing how once a show has been commercially released the soundboard is banned at the archives.

Can't wait, but worried by the email I got this morning, re card verification; firstly, the entry for Shipping was my email address, second, they had lost the TOWN to which the box was to be delivered, which would have ended up with the box not being delivered, and presumably shipped back. I am now told by customer service that if I select UPS for shipping to the UK, they may charge me an IMPORT charge (for an item being exported). Do you think they know what they are doing? I don't - so an expensive international call will have to take place tomorrow (the 800 number doesn't work for us).

I was there! Never seen anything like it - drums ended, Phil un-Leshed the opening riff, while the spotlights simultaneously hit the mirror ball bathing the City Hall in shafts of light - truly transcendental. Best gig of my life! Still living in Newcastle and following Furthur with huge interest. If only they would venture to Europe. Hope springs eternal.

If you select UPS shipping, then they will automatically present your package to the customs. Worse still, not only will you have to pay the customs (here in Holland one has to pay VAT + Import Duty) but also, in my experience, you will have to pay UPS for this service when they deliver the package to your door. This charge is on top of the shipping costs already paid. This is why I always select USPS, but I believe that UPS is more reliable and quicker. It is also possible (but not certain) that you will have to pay the customs if it is sent by USPS. Tough choice, eh!
user picture

Thanks for that - have already factored in customs duty (3 to 4%, apparently), and then of course, 20% VAT on the total cost to date as per in the Netherlands. So USPS I think it will be - thanks

Not a big deal but Royal Mail charge 8 pounds for administration cost to collect duty and VAT in the UK - plus if you end up paying at your local sorting office and collecting the package , as I usually do , check that that will accept credit or debit cards - for some reason the technology does not seem to have reached Sale,Cheshire at least... Really looking forward to this , and a big thanks to all involved

It seems all of us Europe Heads are waiting to see what the cost of the postage will be. to me, there appears to be 3 likely costs. the cost of the box the cost of shipping said box across the pond the cost the better half is going to extract for agreeing to have said box in the house for said costs. I dread to think what the reaction will be when I say 'I've got another 43 discs to lsiten to. see you in December' (this could possibly be a further cost. of finding somewhere new to live...)

The postage to Sweden should be no more than $85.00 because that's what the confirmation mail said, so that's what I'm counting on. Probably because of the size of the package as well as the cost, I guess it will not go through our Swedish custom office without notice. I'm counting to pay an extra 25 percent in Swedish sales tax. That will make the total to about $680.00, including custom charges. It would surprise me if the total cost would be any less. I would discuss this directly with Customer Service. Also, as others have mentioned, some of this may be affected by whether you go with UPS or the post office.

Perhaps you could find out approximately when the box set will ship? I don't like having that much money on my "Internet purchase account" for weeks to come just because I'm afraid not having enough cash on the actual account a week before shipping time. I am not the right person for this, believe me. I understand the situation well, and that's why I'm suggesting that talking to the people who do know this stuff is the preferred path here. Please get in touch with Customer Service, explain the perfectly reasonable situation, see if they can resolve this for you, and send me a PM if you have further difficulties. Thanks!

Good point on the release...also what is the date? I always heard September could be the 1st could be the 30th...i doubt it'll be pushed up especially in the event orders might decline if they're sooner rather than later...although it seems like they finished everything and are or have already gone into production...also will previously stuff be on this release? I was thinking it might not be legal to re-release some of the label shows again...there were 2 that i can think of 100 year hall and another about 3-4 years ago something in german i think...not to mention the label's conglomerates which may not be actual shows so there may not be an exclusive...but i can't see how they can re-release an exact show again and get around that, unless this is considered a limited release and a 1 time deal and doesn't enfringe the copyright deal...even though it might be their own deal on their own label...but i'd just be suprised to see 100 year hall on here and the german...the comps were just taken from shows and incomplete anyway...but i'd like to know that for sure...i guess i'll find out soon as i get the thing and it's no big deal since i already have 100 year hall already and the other and the comps.

You know that US mail hands over the mail to the other countries assumed carrier...us mail is also handing over mail to fedex and ups as they don't really want to be involved in foreign mail as they were in the past (recently as 5 years ago) in about 2007 they decided to triple most rates for international mail which is their way of saying go to ups or fedex...now they charge competive rates so you won't get a cheaper rate that takes a little longer, that's the downside of a mail system not goverment run although us mail claims they're not run by the goverment an have not been run by the goverment since 1970 and they try to make their own money but have to ask to hike rates which they're granted most of the time if not the 1st request definitely the 2nd...so on one hand us mail isn't interested in sheer volume but rather in toning it down to eventually shut it down so they can fire their 25$ per hour employees with 6 week vacation and hire minimum wage earners with no vacations...this is business 101 ethics.

Excuse for my second comment about the Customer Service. I misunderstood your earlier comment because I was so into thinking about the Swedish Customs, so that's what I read. Yesterday I got in touch with the GD Customer Service. They said the box set will ship late August or early September, and that everyone will get a notification mail five days prior to when the money will be drawn from our bank accounts. So now we all know. Micke Östlund, Växjö, Sweden ------------------------------ My record collection: jazzmicke

I got mine yesterday and have been listening ever since. Amazing mixing job. So cleanThere are some real gems in here. I can't wait to discover them all. A little bummed that there isn't much extra stuff in the box and that it isn't numbered as advertised. How can you put 3000 of 7200 on a set if 4200 of the 7200 are not numbered? Doesn't make much sense to me.
