We're amazed and humbled that this community of Dave's Picks fans keeps growing, and we just wanted to let you know how much we sincerely appreciate your support of and interest in the series. We started in 2012 with 12,000 of each release, and now we've more doubled that, with 25,000 in 2021. Wow! We keep working as hard as we possibly can to bring you the best, most exciting Grateful Dead shows in the vault. Our 2020 releases included music from 1977, 1974, 1984, and the latest, biggest release yet in the series, the two complete Hartford shows from 1987. Looking ahead, we've selected two exceptional, A+ Dead shows for Vol. 37 (more on that in the video below) and 38, as well as the Bonus Disc that will come with Vol. 38. Big year ahead! Times may be trying but the music has never and will never stop! Keep the momentum going by doing the Dead all year long with a Dave's Picks 2021 subscription. We're taking the production run up one final time - to 25,000 - for each of the four Dave's Picks 2021 releases. We'll also be doing things a wee bit differently this year - subscribers will be the first to receive their Dave's Picks. A la carte sales will go up on street date (no more pre-orders) and if you don't subscribe - we highly encourage you to - you'll want to be ready and waiting because these releases sell out within hours. Hours - no hyperbole.

In addition to the four releases in 2021, totaling 12 CDs, you’ll also get the subscription exclusive bonus disc, which has proven to be one of the most highly sought-after collectables we release, and free domestic shipping. Subscriber bonus discs will not be released outside of this offer. Early bird subscribers can nab a sub at $99.98 (regular pricing will be $115.92).

    Also looking forward to ...

the announcement on #38. Which '73 show will it be?? (One for #38, another paired with Wake of the Flood 50th?)

Gawd, I used to excoriate people for too much speculation and here I am, after 9 months in isolation, speculatin' on the speculation.

Just lost my beloved uncle to covid. Told that to a guy I'm working with on a history project and he said, "Oh, did I mention that my wife died of lung cancer in July?" Shut me right up.

    Pains me to hear that...

Overseas fans have had hassles getting their GD product from dead.net while other organizations deliver without a hitch -- I'd have to say, that's pretty damning right there. This has to be a Rhino issue with its fulfillment arm and doesn't reflect on our den mother, marye, or the Vault-fuhrer, Dave, or the band, etc.

I did get DaP 36, but it mistakenly contained two shows from 1987......... [rimshot!]. Actually, I have to say, these two shows do some heavy rocking and I'm glad to be introduced to two monstrous shows from later years. I caught the Red Rocks/Telluride run that year and don't remember the band smokin' like this!

Here's hoping our brethren in Europe receive their orders in time to enjoy them.

Personally, looking ahead to better daze, I plan to get a tad wild on the Winter Solstice, which is my main holiday of the year. A little of this, a little of that, washed down with a few of those with perhaps a Euro '72 show on the stereo. Typically I have a small party and play music here (home team advantage on the inebriants), but will settle for a harmonica pal joining me on the back porch tomorrow at 2pm when the temps might reach 64 degrees. We'll have an hour and a half before the sun plummets to the horizon behind bare trees and the temperature drops like a rock. And then......... daylight increases about a minute and a half a day til my next big holiday -- Summer Solstice.

I'm more than a bit like an ancient Pagan, playing my bongos in the dirt....

For this last Daves of the year, tracking stopped more than a month ago when it left USA using the tracking given by Deadnet. Postnord do not recognise either of the given tracking numbers. HOWEVER, if you do a search for Universal tracking, and then track, sometimes you get surprising results, thats how I know my copy arrived at Arlanda over a month ago.
Similarly, none of my missing packages this year have ever shown a hit when using Postnord tracking, But I have been able to locate their arrival in Europe, often Brussels, before they completely dropped off the radar by using Universal tracking. When phoning Postnord their normal reponse is it hasnt arrived in Sweden, because they only check their own tracking, press them a bit and they do other searches, which is where I can find out the parcel is in limbo, neither tracked nor presented to customs, because the paperwork is incomplete. Or they sheepishly tell me that it has been returned to sender. Sorry about the long explanation but it might be helpful.

My god, your situation is even worse than my. Guess the "obscured sticker" issue can explain why my Daves Picks 34, 35 and 36 also have been stucked somewhere in some unknown location. I got some indications that my copy of DaP 35 arrived Sweden after just a few weeks, but then it went under the radar and never arrived (until custum service sent a replacement). As for DaP 36 the poor tracking that is offered indicates that it has still not yet arrived to Sweden six weeks after it was sent.

Totally agreeing. Life is to short for this kind of frustrating hassle with getting delivered what you paid for.

Actually I was more succesful with the 76 box. I did not order that beutiful thing until mid August, and had it delivered after 5 weeks or so. Longer delivery time than what it used to be, but without me having to contact custumer service.

If the package is a CD-sized unit then there are stickers on top of stickers on top of stickers. The dead.net box sets come in nice packaging covered with dead-themed art. This is pointless when there are multiple stickers on all sides of the packaging. Shame.

Yeah Proudfoot, customs can be a pain...but why do I never have problems with any other sender, Real Gone, Sundazed,CDJapan, never. Deadnet/ Rhino are outstanding in this regard, problem after problem, and this year was the nadir.
It seems that the problem is not only obscured or missing customs declarations, rather, that when they are contacted with a query, they never reply, leading to the package being returned to sender.

The theory makes a lot of sense, but I hope it's not the truth. Between Reckoning and the 2019 RSD release, there's hardly any need for more of that material. Even those two releases feel slightly redundant in my collection.

Thank you Daverock! I am lacking an email from Real Gone about this one, so your post had me rush right over there, and my heart sank when I saw SOLD OUT, but then clicked anyway and saw it should go onsale around 2/1, so just gotta be quick with the order next Monday. They did up the number to 2000 copies from 1500 for DiP 26, but that ain't a lot. Look forward to getting that one in my collection. I have Portland 5/19/74 on its way across the ocean now.

Speaking of ABB/Dead, with the ABB having a new record company that is releasing archival material, wonder if now the time is ripe for Kirk West (ABB archivist) and Dave Lemieux to become buddies like Dick and Kirk, and maybe work out a box with Fillmore 1970 material, RFK '73, and maybe Watkins Glen or ABB NYE 1973 with Jerry and Bill the Drummer. Dillon Stadium 1972 also featured an ABB sit in. If they both produced a box, that wouldn't necessarily have to count against a box set for this year, right?

Two and Three from the Vaults are on the way, as vinyl reissues, too. They keep pushing back the release dates. I have just plumped for Two. So far.

I'm too lazy to look at the setlists, but yeah, after four packed CDs of acoustic '80, another four might get mighty redundant. But if DL hints at an '80 acoustic box, we "do the math."

A similar but different question arises for '68. Similar setlists -- but the charm lies in the massive variations in execution. Complicating the picture: the shows tended to be one long, 75-90 minute set, as the GD often appeared with other bands at shows that year, plus the presumed, relative scarcity of '68 tapes suitable for release still in the Vault. We know they have 8-21-68, cuz they're giving it out on vinyl with that creepy "Origins" "book." (How 'bout an RSD with 8-21-68 on CD??)

The likeliest candidates for a box this year, to my mind, remain 1969-1972. A trio of double-disc spring '69 would do quite nicely....... I don't "need" anything over $200, after [code word] 2020.

personally (again in my opinion), I hope it's not an acoustic set. They have their own charm, but if you are going to do a box of GD, do a box of the Fire-Breathing Love Beast.

1968
1969
1970
1971
1972
1973
1974
Summer 85

etc.

My guess.....is that it is a full Warfield/RCMH FALL 1980 Box Set. There is no way they would do just an acoustic box set from these runs. Hell, they already put out of course Reckoning, then the 2004 Reckoning release with bonus disc, then last year both 10/9-10/80 full acoustic set shows. The 2004 bonus disc included lots of extras from these acoustic sets, and basically another full acoustic set from 10/23/80.
There is no need to do a Fall 1980 ACOUSTIC box set, the best of these sets is out there. And frankly, as mentioned the acoustic sets were great, but very repetitive from night to night.
My guess(hope) is we are looking at a full FALL 1980 box set from both Warfield & RCMH multi-nights. Even if these aren't done in the original multi-track formats, there have got to be good soundboards of these shows for them to work with I would think???? I hope that they have 10/14/80 included in the box as a full show. This to me is one of the best setlist of any time period. BRING ON THE NEWS DL & RHINO!!!!!!!!

Will we see a seaside chat video for Dave's 37 ?

I enjoy hearing Dave's thoughts on the shows being released, as well as the seaside wildlife observations ?

Hoping that shipping goes more smoothly for this release than for 36.

The 2021 subscriptions page is marked "sold out". Is it possible that all of the Dave's picks were sold via subscription this year, so there won't be single show sales and accompanying pages ?

Good humor there on the Seinfeld and Mail Innovations. Agree completely.

Cheers Ya'll

I think no way on 1980 acoustic box. Dave has talked about the lack of tapes and just released two shows on the RSD release. I don't think that's what we'll see this year.

It’s the subscription that is ‘sold out’,:a better description is that the subscription is no longer available. The single volume sales are, supposedly, starting on the day of issue, so 29th Jan for #37. Since the seaside chats are to encourage the sale of the individual shows I’d expect it to appear on 29th. Let’s hope so. I particularly enjoyed the one where he kept looking around in case a bear was sneaking up to photobomb the recording.

into the pool was not justified. Just to review what I told DeadVikes, DL had been on Twitter last weekend and said anyone interested in relaxing GD (imagine!) should put on Reckoning. Someone responded: "I feel like you're telling us something good (in terms of a box set, that is)." DL responded "that's exactly what is happening." So you could get the impression that DL leaked box set news.

I think in retrospect that all DL saw was the beginning of the response to him, not the bit on the box set. Then our former forum-mate, Kate, posted the info on the '80 acoustic returned reels. I "did the math."

a) DL isn't going to casually leak the biggest news of each year like that, b) only PNW 73-74 leaked prior to announcement, c) an '80 acoustic box doesn't make sense, as posters here have pointed out.

HEY, I'M BACK TO FALL '72!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my Origins box today. Great art, fun book. The vinyl is a nice glimpse into '68. I'm not a big fan of the extreme panning of inputs side-to-side, but I suppose I could collapse it to mono if I wanted to. Oddly, it says this was "produced" by Healy, not Owsley. Usually Healy had more sense than that.

With them only producing 1,000, it maybe real hard to get the last couple of the 4 glass set! Maybe it should have been an add on for the DaP series this year!

FYI - the coffee mug their selling with Dave fishing on it is a GREAT mug if you like your coffee LARGE. I have 3 of these TYPE mugs. Use them everyday for my bean. For their size, they are light and don't conduct heat.

I have a 10 mug Grateful Dead collection I've assembled over the years. The crown jewel is The Closing of Winterland. Double-sided, painted perfectly with very fine detail, professionally crafted - not some cheap knock-off that fades over time. It's Jeff Smith quality. Goes for $225 on eBay, just one available, but I was lucky enough to find a second one for 25 bucks a couple of years ago.

Ah, Down By the Seaside- probably my favorite Zeppelin album side:

In the Light
Bron Yr-aur
Down By the Seaside
Ten Years Gone

Still not sure how the song Houses of the Holy missed the cut and ended up in the can for use on Physical Graffiti, but it made that two-headed monster all the better.

Espresso stout, now that sounds good! If I had to choose 1 non hard liquor for the rest of my life it would be Guinness Stout with the nitrous cartridge. Mmmm....balloons....Okay well that fit has passed. Talk about your flashbacks. Just the word makes me salivate like a Pavlov dog. Ain't it a bitch.

My Dave's Picks 37 should be here by sundown Wednesday. I've been avoiding the post Hiatus era like the plague, just to make Dave's Picks 37 all the fresher. I've had some great April 1978 soundboards for a long time now that I received from the Man in the Castle, but I've never really listened to them because I figured there would be a time when they would be officially released, and if possible I like the first listen to be of a Full Norman. There are plenty of exceptions of course, just not April '78.

Yeah I like the dark roast as well. Starbucks French roast really does it for me. I have the hook up that gets me a 72 K cup box for $30. That's crazy inexpensive. Keurig makers really do make the perfect cup of coffee every time.

I had been doing a lot of mixes lately, but then someone commented on only listening to complete shows, so I've switched back and listened to "The Dead in Denmark" (4/16/72). Interestingly, this show was on the Rolling Stone top 20 Grateful Dead show lists. And so it became my first Europe 72 show, having missed the steamer trunk box set when they came out, and having been too soon to realize I needed all 22 shows via Music Only Edition. This is the no Donna show. There is also no Dark Star and a very abbreviated 2 part Other One totalling a mere 6 minutes. There IS a 16 min Jam after Truckin' so that counts for something. Still a little bit of an oddball show to put in a top 20 list of their career. I may run that Truckin' medley back later.

Right now I have Ramble on Rose on the headphones from "Treckin' Through Copenhagen" 4/14/72. Pure genius to multitrack every show on that tour. We are indeed a lucky bunch. Jerry throws a little bitta China Cat in at the end of Not Fade Away, Part I. I hear him do that once in awhile during Jams. I also noticed he throws a little St. Steven into a Jam once in a while too.

Starting to feel like early '73... or maybe that PNW box. Yes that's it.
