Thanks, my man! I think it sounds pretty sweet - especially that Shrine 67 LP release, played LOUD!

Your Hershey story is great! Really wish I would have been around during those times! I would have partied right down in the mud with you!

Not the same, but my first Phish show was at Hershey in 96. We too found a spot directly in front of the soundboard, figuring that it had to sound good there. To this day, my friends and I refer to that area at shows as "The Chocolate Spot."

Good to see you back in the loop. Hope all is well. New system is always exciting.
I am willing to give Dave's 31 another try. Haven't listened to it since last year.

Took out Good old Dave's 25, the BINGHAMTON NY 77 show. Some of these shows keep getting better with each listen.
Oroborous, you are a wild man. What a ride!

Be well folks. I have heard rumblings in other pages about big announcements coming. Don't know about that but we do know Dave's 35 will be announced in July. Maybe they will give Oroborous an 85 pick?

....another one of my first tapes. Bird Song-> Comes A Time -> Deal. A rare Garcia trifecta to end the first. Music Never Stopped-> Tom Thumbs to open the second. How do you guys keep bringing up my first loves? And why does this band keep following me?
Here's kind of a story. I tripped balls listening to this tape in 1989. That's all I got.

So after basically staying up for 2 days at SPAC, we finally pack it up and hit the road the next day. I believe it was a rainy, gloomy day most of the day. But that didn’t stop our idiot patrol from basically racIng at high speed through the fine but conservative state of Pennsytuckey, where they were one of the last to let go of the 55 mph laws, and back then there usually wasn’t much tolerance. So 2 cars of totally raging nutknicks, with probably enough cargo to keep us detained for decades, thought it’d be a good idea to race at speeds up to 90!, Idiots!.....yes, one car had a radar detector, but in those days smart cops would wait for some nut traveling high speed and click it on when they had ya dead nuts.
Luckily, all was well and it was one more “miracle” as we earnestly pursued our quest for “too much of everything is just enough”, aaaa, never considered back then maybe Bob was being sarcastic? Lol
So we roll on into Chocolate town late and all beat up. I’m guessing we grabbed some kind of drive through, but not sure and as we were hardcore vegetarian then, perhaps we thought we’d grab something there? It’s all such a blur, I do recall the lot we were in had no or little Shakedown action going on. That still wasn’t in full flight anyway, and don’t recall much there, so maybe we drank our supper? I know I scored some Carlsberg Elephant beer, and believe I may have finished it, though that is a tall order even under good conditions so perhaps not. I’m sure I put in dent in it at least! So, that and the last of one z of veggies, though the tricky part was it was mostly just powder and scraps and so no normal produce to properly gage etc, which would turn out to be a tactical error...
So it’s late, we’re tired, but tweaked, perhaps no dinner, and of course it’s horrible out. Dark, rainy, and cold is usually not how you want to do your Dead. Eventually we get in perfect time, slip right in front of the SB and try to make the best of the situation. Well I had a shirt, a black baseball jacket, and the electric Buffalo Hyde, but even still it was damp and cold at first. Eventually, when things started to take hold and we started boogieing, we began to warm up a bit.
Meanwhile, the set list is awesome, but the conditions, which necessitated all the stage and PA speakers being covered in plastic (there was no stage lid) thereby severely effecting the audio. It’s was such a weird show that way, loved the little “stadium” and the nice audiophile stereo set up, with surrounds, great set list, mostly good playing, yes JGs vocals are a little ruff in the first set, but you have to cut some slack as it was terrible, I mean depending on the wind/rain they were getting rained on playing electrical instruments! Weird indeed, but like so many times in adverse conditions our heroes seemed to rise to the challenge. Thus the playing was perhaps more relaxed, steady and together and not forced like the previous night. Really, besides JGs vocal issues in the first, its a top notch show!
The second set really starts to take it higher with stellar versions of Music Never Stopped, Terrapin, Miracle and one of the best Dews I’ve ever seen! I think I saw about 14 or 15 Dews and when I think about Dews I’ve seen, this one is the one I always think of first! Rocking Stones/NFA with a spirited Day Job. I liked Day Job, but by now it was getting a tad old, and was a disappointment for this show considering how high it was at that point. A She Belongs or Baby Blue would of been a perfect Cherry on top, but perhaps that’s being greedy?
Now since the weather was such a factor, we must discuss that and how it influenced this show. The second set starts out with their “signing in the rain” as Bob says, and it’s a good’n! Next they slowly slid into an unusual sounding Tom Thumbs which I had never heard yet, and wasn’t even sure at first what it was, but hey, it was Phil so that’s all I needed to know! Good but perhaps truncated Estimated, followed by an awesome Terrapin. So as the set started to progress, so did the weather until (I think?) around Estimated it really started to clear up and they started pulling the plastic tarps down. It was almost like you could immediately hear it get better after each one was removed. Eventually by about Terrapin, they tarps we’re gone, the moon and stars were out, and Healy started increasing the volume and tweaking the mix. I remember we were goading him to turn it up, and man eventually he sure did!
As the night wore on it began to warm up a bit too. But as you’ve heard this scenario, or been there yourself, many times I didn’t feel quite high enough so what the hell, one more time with the powder veggie crumbles just before drums......hee-hee....you know, “I’m not feeling it?” and then...Dooah!
So the problem with those baseball jackets is they don’t really breath and the electric Buffalo Hyde was thick plastic. We didn’t have all the nice technical outer gear we have now, or at least WE didn’t. I could barely afford the free plastic one from the old mans work.
Well a perfect storm mounted; little or no food, Elephants, veggies etc, no sleep, excess everything and underlying exhaustion, with me starting to overheat due to the above and dancing with that plastic shell on. Things were going unbelievable well, and partly influenced by the very recent passing of my Grandfather, during Dew, things peaked musically, the sound, the night, the stars, emotionally etc etc until I had one of the most powerful musical/emotional/psychedelic peak experiences of my life. Perhaps my all time GD moment, it was that powerful. But what goes up must come down and just like that the radiator blew and that last handful of shroom dust fully kicked in and somewhere in Throwing Stones, right during ashes, ashes all fall down, well.....I say i didn’t really fall down, it was more like an immediate realization that if I don’t sit down rapidly, I’m going down! LOL, so one way or another, depending on who you believe, I end up down in the soft, cool mud until near the end of the song, but I swear just as I tried to get up I knew it wasn’t going to happen, so right on que again I go back down. My friends to this day always bring up my perfectly coreographed “Dance moves” above all else that happened on this tour..35 years later and it’s still “ashes, ashes, Pedro falls down” !
That would of all been well and good except things were very strange and weren’t wearing off, and I was barely functioning. I never would of found the car etc If not for my homies. Honestly all I remember is them pulling into a Wendy’s or something, but I just sat in the car with my face literally stuck to the window and crackled! Zzzzttttt. I really thought I had finally fried some essential circuits and thought this time I really did it. At some point I snapped out enough to find some kids in another car staring at me with a look of concern if not fear. Luckily, the boys finished up and came out and got us outta there. Somewhere near the state line we finally grabbed a motel as we all had had more than enough rain and adversity. Plus the next day was off and the drive short. I remember they propped me up in bed and I just sat and crackled and worried. Eventually I slept and though I felt better the next day, I didn’t feel normal and don’t recall much except when we got to Merriweather and found a good spot just over the creek, right next to the path, in some trees, on the way to the big parking lots to the right of the venue. But now it was nice and I was feeling more normal so not so freaked out. I also remember going to a nearby sorta plaza with an upscale liquor store where I scored my first sixer of EKU 28 ever which was awesome!
So now we’ve moved beyond the insanity of TOGA, the adversity and majesty of Hershey, and ready for perhaps the best overall show of the tour on 6/30/85....

EDIT: Otis, congrats on the stereo. All that matters is if your happy with it. After all the specs and hyperbole etc, no matter how big, small, expensive etc, in the end, that’s all that counts!

@ Bob T and Pick for Monday

Nice rec for the TDIGDH 6/28/76 show! I'd never heard that one before, and it is pretty sweet. The "Happiness is Drumming" is certainly a highlight!

I have been out of the loop for a bit - trying to deal with some personal stuff on my end, and I just kind of lost track of things around these parts. I hope to be able to participate more going forward.

To that end, how about a pick for tomorrow, Monday 6/29? I am thinking Dave's 31 - 12/3/79 Uptown. I feel like this pick got a short shrift on the DaP page, but I remember being very happy with it, though I haven't given it a proper listen since it first came out. What do you all think?

One positive thing that I have accomplished since I've been away has been the set up of my first component stereo system. I don't know if it compares to all of your "big boy" systems, but it certainly feels BIG in my little row home! Looking forward to playing it LOUD tomorrow when the wife goes to work.

Voodoo senile, slight return. 6/27/85, and why 85 Dead is like

First, GOGD, I did not mean to single you out, over generalizations, which become stereotypes, which become truth etc, really bum me out. So it was more of a trigger to that, not you personally. I know you were just repeating this line.
Actually, as I’ve dug in deeper, there are probably a significant number of shows where he often doesn’t sound so good, but to over generalize that “his voice was shot”, as in never more, to me, imho, that completely devalues and discounts all the amazing, great sounding stuff he was still able to do. 87,88,89,90,91anyone? Micro view versus macro perhaps?

SECOND: I must humbly recant my tale of dancin in the rain. As we were diligently experiencing TOGA last night. Too things became apparent. First, perhaps JG was a tad “caffeinated” at the start of both sets. Listening close on a real system, (not the big boy, but the living room system which ain’t no slouch!), he seems a tad to fast and/or their not fully entrained. One could argue not fully so until Women Are?...so probably something to do with him totally skipping the Key Rain Storm, and Jailhouse versus, of Bertha, lol.
Thus, while I wasn’t deceitful, I was not accurate. Sure enough, when Holmes and Watson ripped a spleef and fired up Bertha from SPAC 6/24/84, and bingo, ding, ding, ding, ding! Right venue, wrong year! 😂 Ooops, my apologies to the dear reader...but hey, it’s a fun interesting new tid bit, and it did rain, I think, lol.
While doing this research I was listening just on the iPad and interestingly he doesn’t sound as bad? Also, I’ve been going with the HS matrixes, especially shows where I want to hear those crowd big moments. Generally they’ve been pretty good, but researching, I used a CM transfer and man, definitely a big difference. Perhaps number one being the speed/time of the Miller seemed better and more natural?
Subjective I know, just that it’s interesting how every variable can effect perceptions.
6/27/85: so this beast is still as much of a rocket sled ride as I’ve thought, but it’s perhaps a tad more unpolished then I would of said in the past. But that’s being picky, and you know I prefer danger dead to safe, so as at this moment, Hell in a bucket is scorching, I stick by this show for that, the cool set list, and the fact that eventually, say around Women Are on out, that part of the show stands with its lofty summer 85 neighbors. Probably have to give 6/24& perhaps 6/25? a slight advantage overall, but man I haven’t been to many shows that had the vibe, fun, and overall madness of this puppy.

So why is 85 Dead like Bode Miller? He often was criticized for his erratic style, or lack thereof, his nonconformity, often disregard for the rules, including parting then basically going 80 MPH down an insane pitch, that was usually hosed down to make it more icy, and thus faster! So just like this era of Dead, sometimes he’d DQ, sometimes he’d slack off, sometimes it was ugly, but when he brought it, that mofo brought it!! and when he was able to be one with the force, it was fucking breathtaking! Scary, but breathtaking. No matter what, if he was racing there was an energy, an excitement, that larger than life vibe......that, to me, is 85 Dead.
FINALLY: Ladies and Germs, May I present the Electric Buffalo Hyde! as christened by my degenerate cohort due to my resemblance of the great beast of the prairies back in the day, and this baby used to be so bright people would ask if there were batteries. But Alas, like youth itself it’s faded dramatically, and is old and bartered. It definitely gave it’s all to R&R. So many Dead shows, festivals, camping, parties, you name it! Also, it will be a part of an unfortunate situation at the next night, where I lost my shit in Hershey! So until then....

At first I thought Bolo was talking about Steppin Out by Joe Jackson.

I am with you GOGD, I am also interested in hearing about the different mix from the box set.

Almost finished with 2/9/73. What a show. Always love to hear first versions of songs, Eyes of the World, fantastic. Love the HCS, Truckin.
Would be a fantastic show to release.

Well I'm on Hurts Me Too on Disc 1 and this is def a fine sounding CD!

I haven't gone back and forth and compared the two mixes in real time.
But since I was curious I poked around.. cause, you just gotta poke around.

And here's some info from Deadessays.blogspot.com -
Let’s not forget that big chunks of this tour previously appeared on the archival releases Hundred Year Hall (released in 1995), Steppin’ Out (a compilation of songs recorded on this tour in England, released in 2002), and Rockin’ the Rhein (released in 2004). Also, the box set The Golden Road (released in 2001) and the later individual re-issue of Europe ’72 contained bonus tracks from the tour. Astute listeners will notice that the mixes on these earlier releases is much more refined in terms of dynamics, equalization, reverb, and other sonic niceties than it is on the 2011 box. Keith Godchaux in particular receives more attention to detail on the older mixes. On the 2011 mixes, there is even a distortion issue with the vocals on every show up to the first Paris show (5/3/72) that then pretty much clears up for the rest of the box. Obviously the mixing budget for Europe ’72: The Complete Recordings did not allow for the “extravagance” of the earlier, higher-fidelity mixes.

So we've got some Astute Listeners here!

Any other details folks got about the mixes and the difference in the source material used I'd love to hear about.

But based on what I'm reading the mixes for the previous releases were more enhanced and higher-fidelity due to the production time and budget that the Dead had to work with, or probably should say Jeffrey had to work with.

While I'd heard this mentioned, I've never fully explored it. So therefore.. I did not know that.

Steppin Out

Won't have my copy at hand for a couple days. Thinking back a bit earlier even and just how fantastic Hundred Year Hall was. Its been a long long while since I've listened to that, but if memory serves one of the gifts was how inspired Keith's playing was as part of the whole. While the Steamer Trunk was a holy grail release, I remember thinking what the heck where is Keith a lot of the time, and it turned out that Norman had intentionally mixed him down, at times he seemed barely audible. Not that I don't love listening to shows from the trunk but there is a bit of a sigh as to certain mix choices.
That 17000 y/o conch shell is an amazing story. To be able to hear that sound!! The NPR story from yesterday also had a brief sequence from a repro of bird bone flute that was even older - so pretty.
DeadVikes - grew up in the Chicago area. College in MN. The upper midwest is near and dear in my heart. though I'm way out west now.

Hey, at least they didn't record over the tapes after they released E72 like they did with the Warfield/Radio City run.

The box was mixed by Norman from the original multi tracks, they used Plagent Processes and Glasser mastered it
I always thought the sound quality was unbelievably good and can't believe how lucky we are that they released it.

Anyway, I have heard the complaints about Keith in the mix before and I think there is actually some text from Norman on this, explaining it.

Anyway, you should check out Norman's explanation of mastering and mixing in the bonus footage from the The Grateful Dead Movie, interesting stuff.

I hope the next box, whatever it is, comes out soon .

Side tracked to 35 years ago

Was at the Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium in Oakland for the amazing five night run in February 1986 that included the two nights with the Neville Brothers. The jam session on the night of the 11th with the Nevilles was the most exciting guest jam from the Brent era I had the pleasure to see, and hear and feel. I sing the body electric. Apologies to Walt Whitman.
I’m gonna have to listen to 2/12/86 tonight.
Will have to visit 4/24/72 over the weekend.

The 2nd night of the GOGD opening up for Janis and her new band and their NY debut.
Some cool video snippets float around out there from 2/11/69 when 60 minutes came to interview her, wonder if CBS has all the source footage that was shot that night?

Edit to GOGD. I was present at the 2.11.89 Forum show. I said before and I'll say again, that show was the most lit show I attended. I was a psychedelic mess. Cheers. Thank God we booked a room right across the parking lot.

My first GD mentor, who I barely knew, sure did know what he was doing.

I mighta told this story before, but.. fuck it.
My friend Kevin's older brother flipped me my first 3 bootlegs.
We were in high school & he was home from college and having a rager Keg party.
So we were so stoked to be hanging and partying with all these college age guys and gals.
I remember they seemed so grown up.. and Joe (I think that was his name) had racks of tapes.
They were blasting GOGD, it was awesome.

I got to talking to Joe, and told him I'd just started getting into the Dead and was curious about all the tapes.
He asked "What are you into?"
At the time I was super interested in Psychedelics and finding the best music to trip to.
I'd heard about "Space" so I said, you got anything with a lot of Space?
He looked at me curiously...
You want a lot of "Space", huh?

Anyhow, he flipped me the tapes with the caveat "Never sell them, only share".

5/31/80: well I didn’t peak, so I didn’t realize that the Miller SB version I picked was only second set. So as I was doing some PW etc I started to think “WTF?, did they play the second set first lol, no wonder Proudfoot said not to peak”
So I didn’t hear the first set but did really enjoy that second set. This is the kinda thing I’m looking for here, these off the path chestnuts that might never listen to unless someone you hang with turns you on.
Like those 86 shows too. Though I think I might of had the 11th? If it wasn’t such a hassle I’d drag the tapes out.
Didn’t get to those, but I should. I’ve had this thing with 86? Can’t really describe it but don’t feel drawn? I guess if I could remember the Hampton/Philly run I’d have a better feeling, but unfortunately I don’t remember much. Like of all the blurred and forgotten memories, that spring run is like a black hole...probably too many veggies, but I can’t even remember what it was I dropped? Can’t remember much about tapes from 86 either, which probably means I wasn’t that into them? Probably binged out all that year on 85 tapes, like TOGA! (I hear ya GOGD!)
Remember a little more about the 5 summer 86 shows I saw which were mostly good with Riverbend leaving a smoking crater, but Akron I don’t recall much, except meh, and just sorta getting Altamonte fear vibe from like smoking tires etc on the way in...I think? LOL (actually have listened to all those and non are as bad as I thought)

FED 89: now these I’ve always been meaning to check out as I recall my cousin (might of been at?) said they were good? I’d love to hear more about this run from anyone who was there...though sounds like VGUY was in similar condition as me at those spring 86 shows ; )

2/9/73: ok, did this one yesterday. Never been that blown away by this one, I mean it’s basically a sound test.
I’m sure part of my lack of sparkle is because of the shitty tape I had and the fact that I wasn’t ready for the more jazzy 72-74 stuff. I know what tapes I had from that era back then were never very good so I think that had something to do with a lot of BS first impression/pre-conceived notions I acquired, idiot!
Yeah I lived for like raging late seventies/early eighties then, but I digress.
So as I’d not heard it in a long time figured it was time. Now, it’s a good 73 show, and I can understand how some folks are really into “first version shows” etc, so there’s the historical element,....I guess I’m trying to say that it’s a good show, but I’d wish there was more big 73 type jams, and I can think of a half dozen other 73s just off the top of my pointy little head that I’d rather see get them”treatment”.
But hey, that’s just me...glad I heard though, Eyes definitely interesting!

Ok, folks, your in for a treat now as Boo is one of my oldest show buddies. We were pretty inseparable for years back in the bad ole daze; band mates, house mates, roadie/tech work together, and all around looking for trouble aka Neil and Jack, or more like the 2 lead characters in the movie the Stoned Age, a must see for anyone growing up in the late seventies/early eighties. Like Dazed and Confused only better!
Yeah, the two of us on here, hee-hee, “look out Cleveland” part of our “act” was me being a dumb ass, and ole Boo letting me know it! LOL Miss ya Buddy! So glad ya made it!

2/14/86 GD concert was fun, not near as exciting as 2/11,12/86 nights with the Neville Brothers. But I still had an awesome time. I’d say check it if it moves you.

SBD doesn't circulate, but DL put that portion on Taper's Section and brought it to my attention.
(SBD portion had a lot of drop outs that I messed around with and patched)
It doesn't look like much on paper, but its' real good.

It's not my type of read it cover to cover style book, but when I do pick it up and go there, I'm always glad I did.

86 needs some intrepid traveling for sure...I know I liked 86 in 86 lol, but through the years it’s fallen through the cracks. Not remembering spring tour doesn’t help. I know I finally gave those shows a superficial listen on a job sight a couple years ago, but I really need to give them a better look. Still haven’t gotten to the Boxilla show either.

2/14/68: RT 2.2, one of my most sought shows I don’t have yet. Waiting for Real Gone to hurry up and redo it. They were moving along pretty well at first, probably 4 a year like Dave’s. Then, a couple years ago, they slowed way down...maybe they had to slow down because rhino thought they were competing with DaPs?
Anyway, been digging the RT 2.4 show from 93 much more then I would have thought. Hopefully sooner than later 2.3, from 74 will be out, since this is another highly anticipated one, hell all of volume 2 is!
So I’ve purposely not listened to 2/14/68 YET, so I’m hopeful they’ll put that out ASAP this year...until then think that ketchup song...”antici-pa-a-tion, is making me wait”

BALLANTINE ALE: ah that brings back some memories...don’t recall my impressions about drinking it, probably cause back then it was most once’s for the dollar..but since my initial reaction is not recoil, perhaps it wasn’t too bad?
But I do fondly recall my pops often giving me 2 dollars to ride my bike down the street to the convenience store so I could get him a sixer of either Gobel or Ballentine, often on sale for 99c a sixer, in the back of the store in a giant pyramid with big sorta starburst price sign, and a pack of smokes (25 or 30c?) which left me a nice little bounty to buy baseball cards etc for the trouble. I’d toss the beer and smokes in my basket and rush home so I could find out if I got anything good! Must of been quite the sight!
Hey it was a much different time and the manager/staff knew me and my pops and stuff like that happened back then.

Didn't revisit the Dead until July '87. Was still in heavy metal mode then. Not an excuse. Just facts.

Happy Ballentine day , I mean Valentines Day

2/14/68, truly a relic of the psychedelic. Have not listened in three years as I did for its 50th anniversary .
But right now I’m traveling back 35 years ago to 2/14/86. Earlier today I glanced at my bulletin board and there was my ticket from that night! Took that as a sign I better relisten and report back.
As I had been given a backstage pass from Brian Williams who was an assistant to John Cutler I brought an old Japanese poet friend Nanao Sakaki (January 1, 1923 - December 22, 2008) who had been visiting up at Kiskadee outside of Nevada City. I got in early and got a couple seats on the left side close to the stage , of course being the Kaiser, just off the main floor. Right now I’m finishing out the first set. As it had been raining cats and dogs and mountain lions and coyotes the Dead played several songs referencing those elements . What strikes me about this run of Dead shows is how tight they were. Let it Grow was so tight, or like the Sun Ra album title it was “bad and beautiful “. I did go back stage at the end of the first set to grab Bobby Petersen to step out front so he could meet Nanao . I believe I had a signed copy of Nanao’s book Real Play that we gave to Bobby. That was the last time I saw Bobby Petersen who died the following January 1987.
So second set they opened with Keep on Growin the Derek and the Dominos song. Last time played. Listening to it now it sounds alright and better. I remember Nanao commenting on the Kaiser Auditorium being like a giant space ship. Boy howdy. Nanao was a true free spirit who loved spirits and smoking ganga. Now listening to Lost Sailor. I don’t believe I’ve listened to this concert in over 30 years. Oh yeah I recorded every night of this run with my Sony D-5 by patching in with other tapers. I’ve got those tapes still. Some on metal tape and others Maxell 2S. I have no idea how they may sound now. Decomposing further I reckon . Was going to pass on listening to this show but then finding the old ticket changed my mind. Sure don’t know what I’m going for but I’m gonna go for it for sure. Drums and space really impressed Nanao who many times was the life of the party at drum jams in Taos County in the 80s. Of course Bobby Petersen and Laird Grant lived in the Taos area off and on in the 60s and 70s. Laird at New Buffalo and Morning Star and Bobby up on Lama Mountain. I didn’t move to New Mexico until 1982 so was a late comer. You could say early 80s was the tail end of the old hippie days. Depends on who you talk to I suppose. I met Nanao in Zuni December 7th 1980. I had traveled there with a WW2 Navajo veteran (communications Sargent) but I digress.
Terrapin sounds awesome at this time. Calling on the elements. Keeping it real. I get goosebumps hearing this show. My God time flies. Anyone who had the opportunity to see the Grateful Dead live even once (and got it) was quite fortunate. I think about the youngest Deadheads (10-11-12?) at some Dead shows in 95 who really became intrigued who may live to 95-101? What 2080? 2085? Who will be the last living Deadhead who actually saw the real Grateful Dead (1995 cutoff thank you) It will perhaps be something like the last Civil War veteran alive or the last WW 1 veteran alive.
Back to 2/14/86, space sounding expansive. Echos from the stars. ( today from Mars?) Left a smoking crater like my mind was blown away. So here it is Valentines Day 2021. My mind is blown. But I will reiterate from another time, to keep your memory sharp, try not to smoke too much herb and drink too much. Exercise, clean diet ( freedom of choice ) good water. Good friends, love of family, lust for life , rise before dawn, greet the sun, give thanks for another day.
Ah yes , Wharf Rat, old man down by the docks of the city. I got no dime but I got some time to hear his story.
So go out and do some good dear readers. Glad I could share this story.

Strider, sweet post, nice vibe, nice memories, I’m going to have to look at that run. I feel like a had a couple sets from that run, but who knows...tight ya say? That’s interesting cause though I recall liking most/all the shows from that year my recollection is they could be intense, fiery, weird, but occasionally sloppy. But I’m learning that many of my memories are no longer relative lol.
So I think I need to go there...buy the ticket...

Wow interesting set...I was @ those Spectrum shows, and I remember Hand jive sorta but that’s about it for that one....dooooaaahhh, stupid memory! Kinda bums me out I don’t recall such a fun set, or maybe I’m just fortunate I’ve seen so much over the years that it all rolls into one....am I the Victim or the crime?

EDIT: trying to remember now what year/show (86/87?) we saw at the Rectum where they had double booked the venue; WW wrestling followed by the GD....surreal as the meat heads, actually, I remember lots of children with nervous looking Dads LOL, but they had to make their way out through a large, anxious , aaa, “primed” crowd of Dead Heads! Actually very smooth but definitely interesting! Can’t remember what time the band started, but I know we were there well after midnight...Road crew must of loved that shit!
