My Last Show-Left on Stella Blue-perfect farewell from Jerry-sad

Was living in Boca in 1994 and this was my last show with a workmate, Joe A. and it was an okay show except we were up on right of stage to right of speakers so Jerry wasn't that ripping as I recall, felt he was sick and vibe was one that I felt he was not feeling to well...in spite of it he played decent show and I was glad to have seen them in rare place to catch show as FL is not known as place he played much and think was only Deborah Koons and the West Palm Beach area she was from that saw band down that far south as usually Orlando was it for FL and maybe Tampa but anyway-it was not too memorable given the great shows I have seen at MSG over a dozen, at Radio City 1980 incrediboe run just one but still a life show of any, and Red Rocks 8/12/1979 so twas my last 3 shows all in FL and only the Orlando show did I see Jerry come to life on spectacular Morning Dew though I was on the moon recall that but from Miami recall really feeling Blue on Stella and maybe even getting the death vibe of the finality Stella conveys at times...twas to be as never could get to see them again and I don't think I missed much....I recall even in Orlando the incredible vacuum I felt Brent's absence caused and just felt Jerry was never feeling it much after that though the Giants stadium release of 91 with Hornsby doubling VInce on keys showed Jerry was still ripping it on that Speedway Boogie and feeling "this darkness got to give" but he looks dark even at Giants stadium in that Meadowlands show I saw on Youtube at 4 am today with insomnia...alas....I wont remember Jerry by this show but will remember feeling I got to say farewell til we meet again to a true family member and miss him still with every fiber of my being., musically, spiritually, personally, he was unequaled in my human experience and I am proud to have been one of the few lucky thousands of fans to catch great great 50 to 75 shows between Dead, JGB, over 1979 to 1994 span, lived in NYC most of that time til moved to FL in 1990 and so every year if you just saw NY area shows you caught at a minimum 2 or 3 shows without even going on road--but I did catch all of CO run in Denver and Red Rocks in 1979, caught many shows in college years of 78-85 and many after I got married in 1986 especially great was the comeback tour after coma in 1987 to smiling Jerry at Hartford Civic Center-both shows...ripping and their last LI run in June of `1990 was peak almost at level of 77 shows run..I think I saw band at their very best though wish I had begun watching in 1976 I was only 15 in 1976 so 18 to 33 is my prime and theirs in my humble opinion and still. seen Ratdog 20 or so times, now Dead and Co 3 times and many other permutations including Dead in 2004 and 2007 reunions tho with Warren they did not hit the heights they hit now with Mayer finally playing like Jerry played and almost getting it to point of X factor hitting on occasion but never like Jerry tore roof off (at least not yet John but I hold out hope you may yet reach some major blastoffs..and I know this is most like Dead were that I knew them in their prime that they sound well. like the Dead...miss Phil, Brent and Jerry but Bobby is the man and without him holding down fort since 1995 I don't think I'd have made it through last 24 years without Jerry as he has been the one constant since Jerry died besides Santana shows and occasional Phil and Friends or Dead show but Bobby thank you for staying true to the "mission from God" (as Blues Brothers said)...you guys have fulfilled your missions admirably, and Bobby gets my hero with a thousand faces cheer as Joseph Campbell on humanity's heroes falling into a few major archetypes in all cultures- the Dead stand out as a truly American sojourn of music, love, faith and it was "church": for me as well boys....so glad to see you again Bill and Mickey, and love addition of Oteil (miss Phil but Oteil is nice catch), Jeff on keys is outstanding, John seems to have found the special sauce maybe not there in few rounds though Mark Karan clearly hit it for a while with Ratdog this is the best iteration of the Dead since Jerry in my humble opinion and so I am truly Grateful you boys are.still truckin' and I am ecstatic to still get to see the boys whenever they come around-- and iwth my grown daughters now! Wow-never thought that would happen...KOT!

    My Birthday Shows
I treated myself to these Miami shows for my birthday. I went up to Orlando first to see Disney and Epcot. Got the surprise of my life running into Jerry and his wife at Epcot. I didn't go to the Orlando show that night, glad I missed the tear gas. These Miami shows were the last time I saw Jerry. I remember listening to Row Jimmy on the way to work in 95 when I got the call that Jerry had died. I am so glad Phil and Bob are carrying the torch with Furthur. Can't wait for the Boston shows next week.

I got miracled to this show. I had been slinging grilled cheese in exchange for a ride, and food, and booze for some nice folks who picked me up in Atlanta. Thanks Mt. Frog. Anyway, quite unexpectedly Senor Frog came along this second night and kicked me down a ticket. I was so happy dancing and smiling and shaking my bones. Alot of people say these weren't the best shows the dead played but it sure seemed good to me.

Boy- Jerry was so cleerly ills and I had bad seats but oddllymy last memory was weeping as he played Stella Blue and having that odd feeling it was a fitting end song to hear..not that I suspected I would never see him again but he did not look well--labored breathing..alas.. It all rolls into one and nothing comes for free- there is nothing you can hold for very long...Stella Blue! In the end there's still that song....my mind will always remember that as Jerry's farewell song to me no matter what the set list sez..funny how memory plays tricks on you... Now maybe it was the LAST song and then they came out for encore so that is why I forgot.....but it was moving... even the show in Orlando in 1991 the only song that seemed great was Morning Dew- Brent loss was a hard hit that IMHO they never really recovered from musically..but I know Vince and Hornsby did some good shows... I miss old Jerry!! As Hunter song says...down the road... the sun shining with a beard! "if the Thunder don't get ya then the lightning will!"- The Wheel "Gonna find out something only dead men know" - Silvio Class of Red Rocks '79... Life without the Dead is not life...and so we carry on...
