    If you're looking for a good mix from the archive, check out the Charlie Millers and if you want the Matrix Effect seek out the Hunter Seamons and I think Kevin Tobins. Bummed I missed meeting up with Dr Jim when he came to visit Tim and Fenway. My cellphone was on the fritz - must've had some of that brown recharge. Great shows both nights.

    trey was such a perfect choice for Fare Thee Well and was glad to see it happen (not in person). it also apparently rubbed off on trey and was evident on the following 2015 summer tour. that tour was on fire. everyone sounded completely rejuvenated (I'm currently listening to it as I think I need a break from the Dead before I get completely burned out on them and wont listen to them for months as that happened with previously with phish). do I think their summer 2015 tour was their "spring '90"? i'm starting to think so. that probly rubbed people the wrong way but there are similarities between both bands but both bands are completely different at the same time. there's a saying and I hold it true: all Phish Heads are Dead Heads but not all Dead Heads are Phish Heads

    You should really try to see Dead & Co while you can (the old guys aren't spring chickens). It's not even close to a Dead show, not even close, but it's waaaay better than a Phish show. Phish will probably be around for many more years, but the clock is ticking on Bob, Bill, and Mickey. Go while you have the chance.I know that there are some people that think Phish is awesome. My last Phish show was summer '98 at Shoreline, and I have not gotten back into them (Trey rocked FTW and nobody could do what he did, not even Mayer). Anyway, you clearly like Dead songs and recordings of Dead shows, give yourself the chance to experience an approximation of what it once was. Look at Muleskinner, he jumped on a plane. I think you said you live in IN, head up to Wrigley (and pick up some Zombie Dust as you pass near Muncie). Tasted spectacular when I got back to the hotel.

    not sure I'm much into Dead &
    not sure I'm much into Dead & Company. but phish playing 13 nites at Madison Square Garden I'm pretty excited about. but some tourheads are pretty ticked as it is pretty much the summer tourdates. I'm not going but excited that it pretty much means big variety in setlists. I mean didn't the Dead play like just only played in NY for two weeks at one venue in 1980? and even if they did I'm sure Dead Heads didn't complain. I'm sure they found some way to get to those shows living far away from NY and if they didn't they didn't bitch at the band about it. I guess some people don't understand that every tour isn't designed for every person in mind.P.S. for those that are into Oteil Burbridge be sure to check out Vida Blue he does some fancy fretwork in that phish side project.

    DP13..really enjoyed that one, I need to go back and fire it up again sometime soon. Of the 80's Dick's Picks I've heard, I think my favorite has been 8/7/82 on Dick's 32. That opener sandwich is too cool. My buddy that I went to the Dead & Co show with this weekend got me a copy of 10/24/71, Eastown Theatre Detroit, for my birthday..looks like a bootleg release. (He also got me a 100 Dead Songs poster where it's like a Where's Waldo with Dead song references. This is going on the wall) Just ripping the show now, sampled some of it and I love it. It is great quality, but not quite the official Full Norman..punchier in different places, I love the way the bass sounds. Actually its nice to hear a different mix other than the official channels..I kind of figured coming in rather green I would take advantage of all the officially released stuff mostly, but I need to surf more Archive suggestions..nice to sonically change it up, even if the officially released are just exactly perfect quality. Reading about the Eastown Theatre, some cool history. I find I have to know the details about a venue of a show I'm listening to, which can add to my appreciation of it. And it's just cool, I love these old venues. Also downloading a recent Dylan show and tagging it, I've learned the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY and the (former) one in Passaic, NJ are in fact not the same place. Knowledge is power!

    Did the Winterland '77 box come complete with the bonus disc edit from 5/12/77 and the trinkets of the dancing skeleton button and the postcard announcing The Grateful Dead Movie at two theaters and the "alternative" cover for the box set? If you have the first May 1977 box, you have the complete 5/12/77. The box was originally released 10/1/2009, and I was just wondering if it's still shipping with the bonus disc.

    When this show was first released Dick L described it as "The Big One!" From the eighties, that is. He felt it was phenomenal and that that night they did some jamming quite unlike what they had done before -- or afterwards too[Dick's opinion, not mine].

    So Dave now that the poster previously known as Dantian has turned you on to Maiden Voyage, I am no longer reluctant to turn the tap full on....not only Herbie but other sidemen on ESP, namely Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter had splendid runs on Blue Note contempraneous with their work with Miles. Thats how I started with jazz, play follow the sidemen! But, you have already discovered the draw back with this strategy, you need to follow the sidemen on the Blue Notes! You have already discovered Freddie Hubbard, soon it will be Bobby Hutchinson and Sam Rivers and Hank Mobley and Lee Morgan and.....Hope youve got deep pockets, tho many Blue Notes are available in reaonably priced and great sounding RVG editions. Happy Trails!

    I listened to Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage yesterday afternoon. What a great album! The music seems to sparkle-so serene. The obvious attraction was the rhythm section, with Herbie seeming to step out a bit more than on ESP. But I was also struck by Freddie Hubbards immaculate trumpet playing-a great tone, too. I have to agree, this music is much more to my taste than the more rock friendly Headhunters. Actually, I haven't heard that one for a long time-maybe I should check it out again before dismissing it.But the mid 60s seem to appeal to me in jazz more than the jazz funk -fusion as they called it back in the day-that followed.

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

Hi there,

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

You should ask on the Dave's Picks 30 thread…there's more people on there and very few if any on here…hope it helps.

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
