Ever run into a blues band called Howard and the White Boys? Are buddies from college. They used to play a rockin Love Light complete w/Jerryesque guitar solo.Spent many drunken hours listening to and hanging with those guys. Kinda miss them. Know they were playing Buddy Guy's club occasionally, and have a couple of c.d's out there. If anybody runs into them, say Hey to Howard, and Bukka the drummer from me. Rene.If you DON'T know them-check them out, is worth it!

Any Chicago Heads know a guy called Chris Tafel? Would like to find him again. At least used to me a major DeadHead back in the 80's 90's living in DeKalb, then downtown Chicago.

Terrapin Flyer; Chicago's liaison to the spirit of the GD, will be performing two special shows on the day of birth and the day of passing of Jerry Garcia at the Kinetic Playground. The August 1st show will feature members of Chicago's premiere contemporary bluegrass band Cornmeal and the August 9th show will feature former Dark Star Orchestra bassist Micheal Hazdra. Hope you can make it and if not help spread the good word. Mahalo.

DeadNet Jam 9/20 & 21, 2007

Musicians from around the nation will join together in a celebration of the Grateful Dead's music and community at the third DeadNet Jam in Chicago on September 20th and 21st at the Kinetic Playground. The two shows will feature Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten and Grateful Dead Hour host and singer/songwriter David Gans as special guests.

In 1996, Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter started a message board on the band's official website (www.dead.net) and called it DeadNetCentral, better known as DNC. Through DNC, fans were able to share their thoughts with Robert Hunter and other members of the band as well as like-minded deadheads -- to swap stories, voice their opinions and meet new friends.

Some of the musicians on DNC came together to jam in 2006 in Tampa Bay at the first DeadNet Jam. The event was hosted by Chris Kelley and the popular local Grateful Dead tribute band Uncle John's Band at Skipper's Smokehouse and was such an overwhelming success it paved the way for a second Tampa DeadNet Jam in April 2007.

The third DeadNet Jam will take place in Chicago and will feature former Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten as a special guest. TC (as he is known) was an integral part of the band during their most creative period from 1968 to 1970. His keyboard mastery is present on three of the Dead's most revered releases: Anthem of the Sun, Aoxomoxoa and their first live album Live Dead.

Another special guest will be singer/songwriter and Grateful Dead Hour host David Gans. Over the past decade David has been making waves as a musician, performing his original material at festivals and clubs across the country. Gans has also been involved in the online community for more than twenty years having co-founded the deadhead community on the internet with a discussion site called The Well. He is also a long-time member of DNC.

Both Gans and Constanten will perform short solo sets and jam with well-known local and national musicians including Pat Mallinger, Ruby Harris, Mike Lawson and current and former members of Vince Welnick & Friends, Melvin Seals & JGB, Terrapin Flyer, Soft Monkey, Cornmeal, The Dark Star Orchestra, Grinning Mob, Jack Straw, Ultrasonic Project, Ghost Pilot and many more. The event will be emceed by former Boulevard Cafe owner John Glynn.

The two shows will be approximately eight hours each, beginning at 8:00 PM and lasting until early morning and featuring a wide variety of combinations of musicians and music. Mark your calendars and save these dates for this very special event.

The DeadNet Jam is not an official presentation of dead.net or the Grateful Dead.

http://www.howardandthewhiteboys.net/index.cfm tigerlilly, i've never seen them but it's not too late because they are still playing out. and i've heard that they're a really good band as well. i haven't heard of your other friend either. the internet is an interesting people finder though. try searching for your friend and see if anything comes up.

Yes, we've played all over Ohio. Not sure when we are playing there again, but past stops have brought us to Lakewood, NLQP, Yellow Springs etc.. Most frequently updated source of information is actually the my space page at http://www.myspace.com/tflyer. Check that out for the most recent info. Coming up in March three shows in Chicagoland with Tom Constanten

I think in today's world, with so much going on, it's best to check the tour pages on band website/socials (e.g. the Dead and Company site), and check the online calendars of your local venues. Also it can be helpful to visit the Pollstar site and search for the band, city, etc. you're interested in.
