    long after the band leaves the stage, the music played on. it's a delight to once again join the community that touches deep, even from Shanghai China. There ain't no boundaries 'xcept for the ones we place on ourselves. My interaction with the music and the community is sporadic and often unplanned in the post-performing years. Yet, when it happens, it's powerful and feels good. This is one of those.... Peace Love and Understanding jeffyd

    Hey woodfishtoo, u should check out daves esl cafe by doing a google search. There are forums with posts from folks doing the same all around the world including China.     Sorry its easier to find comments in this forum as there are not too many here. The Grateful Dead The Grateful Dead where an amazing experience. To this day I can feel what a show felt like. (My last show was Albany 1995) The sound of a train chugging along and feeling the power that just descended onto this far away city for a couple days. When I would visit Northern Cali just North of San Fran when I was twisting and turning on those dusty roads in the middle of nowhere on the way to visit friends, I would feel the power and the influence of the Grateful Dead. The positive vibes and the thought of a complex world and the search for knowledge truly drew me in after the music had enlightened me. The Grateful Dead scene ended as we knew it in 1995, but this complex and influential world is carried on. Everyone on this site is evidence to this. It’s strange that I perceive the word "complex' as being a negative notion these days, but when I speak of "complex" in this comment it has more of a positive and discovering overtone to it. Anyway, this world was carried forward in my life after the Dead stopped touring until I could no hold on any longer. The bus stopped for me while I was back stage "Clinic" at my last Phish show in Mountain View Cali 2000, as I found myself disenchanted with my connection to Phish which extended beyond 175 + shows. It was not just Phish’s fault it was just the need for change and everyone who has followed similar foot steps can attest to this. The road is for gamblers and as good as we may be at surviving, the end has to come and you must turn the page. My bones needed some patching and books seemed the way to patch them and whenever I lifted my head from the books I jumped on an airplane to faraway places and then returned to the States and studied more. I have a compulsive personality so when I do something I get into it and there is no stopping me from finding the core. This too was influenced by the Dead because I always related the GD to intelligence and far away places and the Core. I remember reading Relex and there was a section called “We Are Everywhere,” and we are and there are reasons why we are everywhere. These days I listen to a lot of Dead and Jazz. As there is a good Jazz club in town and it is actually the oldest Jazz club in China so it has a lot of history to it as well. Gangsters and the Shanghai underworld back in the 20s and 30’s. I recall the first time I went to a Jazz club. The decision to go to this club, knowing that I was way underage and there was no way that I could have anything other than a cup of coffee, was based on the fact that I wanted to get closer to the music of the Grateful Dead. To this very day the Grateful Dead influence me and I hope that my children embrace this experience as much as I had. So far so good! All the stars are gone but one Morning breaks here comes the sun Cross the sky now sinking fast Show me something built to last

    Woodfishtoo, Sorry i really cant give too much advice on this one as i have never done it. When i first came to China i hung out at a bar called "The Kiwi', which i believe is closed now, but most of the patrons were English teachers from England and her former colonies and these guys would party pretty hard. My wife stopped me from going to this bar because i would come home a complete wreak. This was about 3-4 years ago. Keep in mind that the bars here do not close until the last person leaves and when you are with a bunch of Ozzies and Kiwis you tend to not leave until the sun is up. These boys can drink. Anyway i used to bring in Dead Shows and everyone loved it even though they never heard of the Dead. I was usually the youngest one with ages from 50 to 35. Over all i would say that China is a very good escape and you would be suprised at what you find over here. I would suggest trying to stay in a bigger city or if you want to get lost in China go to a smaller city, but you will do a complete 180 in your daily life. Anyway, i have been all over this country and have experienced many things and at this point i try not to leave Shanghai, but when i first came here my goal was the smaller cities and the country side etc. I speak Chinese as well so its easy for me to get around and was during that time period. If you do not speak any Chinese i would not recommend going off on your own unless the School has something set up for you. The first thing i noticed (and you will too) is that the American Propaganda machine was wrong as the only soliders that i saw at that time where the ones i would put my arm around while drinking a pint of beer out on the streets at 3 o'clock in the morning for a photo shoot!!! Things have calmed down some but things are still crazy over here. I hope this comment assits you with your potential journey.

    CC Joe, I have sent my secretary there 3 times and "typical Chinese style," we have received mixed information every time. I have not done too much pushing ever since you and i had this conversation in May or June. I will keep my eyes and ears open.

Good morning rockers!!!! As many of you may or may not know, I am a bit of a “1971 Dead fanatic”. I have taken on a slightly ambitious project, documenting all 1971 Dead shows, the end result of which I hope will combine numerous “facts/factoids” about shows with recollections of folks who actually attended Dead shows in 1971. In order to accomplish this, I need the help of the Dead fan community. ALL contributions will be properly and specifically credited. If you attended ANY shows in 1971 and have ANY recollections to share, PLEASE consider participating. Please PM me for details. While of course I’m happy to hear from anybody who attended “classic 71 shows” such as Port Chester, Fillmore East, Harding Theater, Felt Forum, etc., I’m particularly interested in hearing from folks who may have attended lesser known, “out of the way” shows, such as: 1/21/71 Davis 1/22/71 Lane Community College 3/5/71 Oakland 4/14/71 Bucknell 4/18/71 Cortland 6/21/71 Chateau d’Herouville 8/4/71 Terminal Island 10/19/71 Northrop Auditorium 11/11/71 Atlanta 11/17/71 Albuquerque In addition, if ANYBODY out there has “paper ephemera” related to 1971 shows, Please consider participating. Greetings from KL. Four years in and as far as deadheads go feel like a stranger, there just an't any in this town who I've met. Live music scene is very quiet too, nothing like Jakarta or Beijing! If you're passing through or staying for a while PM me.

Well, it's been 7 years since I wrote this initial post looking for deadheads to hang with in Nagoya, Japan. While I've enjoyed venturing to such places as the Oshino Dead Festival near Mt Fuji in 2013, Yukotopia a few times( Hi Kuma) and the Happy Farm Music Festival near Nagano in 2016, I've been looking for someone I kind spend time with on weekends listening to tunes and exploring the area. Still hoping this can happen.

Dude, are you still in Nagoya? The whole current scene has turned me into even more of a recluse than I already was, but just so ya know, you ain't the only one. There are quite a few Japanese heads around this area, but it may not be so good for your visa status to get too close. :P

Hello,

My name in Kenjiro and I am a deadhead skier and musician living in Lake Tahoe.

A group of local Lake Tahoe Deadhead skiers and snowboard riders are coming to Japan with our guitars this winter (February or March) with hopes of meeting other deadhead Skiers and Riders in Japan. We want to ski, ride and play Grateful Dead songs with Japanese skiers and riders.

If you or anyone in your group is interested in joining, we would warmly welcome you.

If you know anyone else interested or can help us with meeting other deadheads in Japan, we would be very grateful.

New at Dead.net . Wanna enjoy like all of mu buddies are doing. Do not like to involve in communities. For living, am doing two different things.
One is start a blogging site and one is an e-commerce store.
I want to financially free as soon as possible to live my life as a deadhead. Working hard to reach this level.
