Who is to be contacted about licensing Grateful Dead logos/graphics? Thanks.

Hey Amy,you have to check whether the image itself is trademarked. If it is not, then you can use it as is. If it SHOULD be trademarked, then change the image somewhat on your logo, and have someone paint your logo freehand ie: give the bear a bigger belly, have it doing a cartwheel, add a ball or some child's toy, a trumpet, put a hat or even shoes on the bear...you get the idea. and then it is your own original image (I think anyhow, can research this further though, just to be sure that I am not telling you crap)

I can't remember exactly, but in Fayetteville, North Carolina (home of the 8nd Airborne Division) there was an auto painting (I think!) shop that had a dancing bear as its streetward sign.

First off, Amy --I salute you on your choice of a professional path. I come from a line of teachers myself and hold them in the highest of regard, especially those involved in the education of the little ones. It's truly possible to save lives by getting them steered in a positive direction as soon as it can be done, so major thumbs up to you. Regarding the naming thing, I would guess that you can, with a few obvious exceptions, call your business whatever you'd like (but of course I doubt that you'd see, for instance, an unlicensed Grateful Dead Auto Parts or a Terrapin Station Petting Zoo getting away with it for very long). I mean, upon whose intellectual property rights does the mere name "Dancing Bear" infringe? As to logos, we're probably singing a different tune. If I started up a national chain of soda/ice cream parlors, there's probably not a lot that the Coca-Cola Company could do about me naming my shops "The Real Thing" --but I daresay they'd balk at my incorporating the duly trademarked Coke "ribbon" as part of my company logo, whether or not I asked in advance for their permission to use it. It's just good corporate CYA practice. Suppose I had tainted product in my shops that was making people sick, and that it became a big local and national cable news story, replete with film crews and reporters parked outside of my storefronts --Coke's image would be damaged by association, and wrongly so, which is why they would have their lawyers fire off a cease-and-desist order within minutes of getting wind of what I was up to and why they'd never grant a request for permission if I bothered to ask in the first place. It's in that vein, but I wish you the best of luck and salute you for doing as many others would not by asking for permission in advance.

    Question Regarding GD Graphics/Logos
Hey all you sweet people! Im not sure if this is the right space to post a question of this sort but anywho. My name is Amy, and I have been a long time grateful dead fan, as well as a long time early childhood educator. Having started a family of our own recetly, my husband & I have decided to start a childcare center of our own. I struggled for a while about what to call it, and finally decided on The Dancing Bear Childcare Center. Id love to be able to use the GD dancing bear logo for our center, but Im not sure who to contact and how to go about doing this? I thought you might have some info. regarding this, and would be so grateful for any info. your willing to share! Thanks so much & I look forward to hearing from you! Amy Jane

Hi, I made a video to post ("High Time"), but YouTube has blocked it, saying it's copyrighted material. Is this something that comes up now and then? Any clues on how to keep a video from being blocked -- it must sound too much like the original. Thanks, -Rob

Disk one of Daves Picks won't play. My player shows the # of tracks and the total play time, but won't play. I tried it on multiple players. Just curious if anything can be done.
Thanks much!

I have had a great idea for quite some time about a merch product that I would love to see come to fruition.
I believe the only way to do it right would be through GDM, as it would be a Highly Iconic design or two, used in a 'NEW' way, it would be a very popular item GDM should maintain control of.
Please let me know whom to contact!
Thanks!

Here's one largely positive review from Brian Dyke, in Taping Compendium Vol. I: of Denver Coliseum, Nov 20 1973 - though some of the details of his description don't match what I hear, and he resorts in a couple of places to (mild) versions of his typical fault-casting (saying "the triad of 'Promised' > 'Bertha' > 'Greatest Story,' falls flat on its face" - which just isn't so, I think ["Promised Land" 's particularly rhythmically good, w/very spunky drumming; Jer flubs the 2nd verse of "Bertha," though]).

Hello. First time poster. I saw on Facebook someone posted about Dave's Picks Volume 40 at Deer Creek.

I understand it is sold out, but inside there is a letter from John Scher to Dave Lucas. That Dave Lucas was my father.
He and his partner built Deer Creek, and created the vision on how great it ended up being. I myself worked many summers doing the marketing for the shows at Deer Creek including all the Dead shows.

However, I would like to get a copy of that as a present for him and I have no idea where to find. Can anyone help? Looking for a miracle(many times I handed out extra tickets as miracles). I think he would find it very special.

Thank you in advance.

Hey, dude from India!!

So, you're a spammer, AND a Deadhead??? Interesting combination............

Ultimately, Captchas are useless for spam because they're designed to tell you if someone is 'human' or not, but not whether something is spam or not.........

Doc
Now it's not just the state, it's your nosy neighbor, your ex-spouse and people who want to spam you......

I received a brand new and sealed copy of Dave's Picks, Vol. 30 w/bonus disc for Christmas. I opened it up and to my surprise, I found my copy to be numbered 190/300. I've seen some unnumbered promo copies released for other volumes, and I know there was a run of 500 extra copies of Vol. 3 to replace some copies that disappeared, but I can't seem to find any information on Vol. 30. Does anybody out there have any idea of what I might have? Thanks.

Has anyone here recently worked out a licensing arrangement for imagery? News article indicate licensing moved to Rhino Records a couple years ago, but it's not evident from their site how to properly go about becoming a licensee. Please help a Head! Thanks all.

I did not receive DP 43. Post office said the Dead only made a tracking slip and did not give them the package to send. I emailed the Dead and only received an automated response with a ticket ID number. How can I get this resolved?

Did you get my PM yesterday? The site is a little confusing so I was not sure if I did it correctly. I am the person who did not get Dave's Picks 43. If you did not get it can you just email me at jcharney@kprs.com and I will reply with the information that you requested. Thanks.

My sister Jamie was an Avid Dead Head. She passed away 10 Years ago. Hanging out with the rest of the band in heaven.
She left me with four signed GD Posters. What would be their collecting status / value. Where would I look for info on this web site for interest?
Thanks, Luke

I have also tried to make a new account at the store, to no avail.

Has anyone else had difficulty downloading 2022 30 Days of Dead selections today to try to get days missed during November, 2022? Every time I download one of the seven days I missed (yeah, I know, DUH) I get an error message that the file is corrupted. So I went in to download all of 2022 30 Days, and got the 2021 30 Days! Anybody else, or am I just weird?
