Well, here we are embarking on our 12th year of the Dave's Picks series, a dozen years of bringing you complete unreleased shows on CD, mastered directly from the Grateful Dead's master tapes. And the most remarkable thing? Even 45+ volumes into the series, not to mention literally scores of other previous archival releases, we are still able to produce shows like Vol. 45, two complete concerts from Portland, OR, on 10/1/77 and 10/2/77. And wait until you see what we have in store for Vol. 46! And its accompanying Bonus Disc that will exclusively be sent to 2023 Dave's Picks subscribers! I was reminded of this analogy in regards to sports teams that win championships: you've got to have a deep bench of talented, quality parts to keep the run going at the elite level it requires. And the Grateful Dead's tape vault? The deepest bench there is! Cumulatively between the Dick's Picks, Road Trips, and Dave's Picks series Vol. 45 will be the 98th installment, not to mention the countless box sets, vault releases etc. And the fact that the two Portland '77 shows are coming out in 2023? THAT's a deep bench! We have three more releases planned in 2023 that are all going to knock your socks off the way we expect Vol. 45 will. A huge thank you for keeping this thing going; it's your interest and excitement that has allowed the Dave's Picks series to continue, and we really see no end in sight. With each Dave's Picks selling out more quickly than the last, subscribing in 2023 will make sure you get all four complete show (in the case of Vol. 45, TWO complete shows!) releases throughout the year, plus the Bonus Disc that will arrive with Vol. 46. Thanks again for sticking around. We're as passionate now as we were when the series started, perhaps even more so, and we plan to continue releasing Grateful Dead of quality you've come to expect for a very long time.

Sweet summer love in the spring, fall and winter! We're back with another year of the Dave's Picks Series. If you've been with us for a while, you know that a subscription is your best bet for getting each of the four numbered, limited-edition releases featuring complete unreleased shows (totaling a minimum of 12 CDs), delivered to your door quarterly. You’ll also get the subscription exclusive bonus disc, which remains one of the most highly sought-after collectables we release, and free U.S. shipping. Subscriber bonus discs are not released outside of this offer. As always, early bird subscribers can nab a sub at $99.98 (regular pricing will be $115.92).

Dave's Picks 2023 will be capped at 25,000 copies of each release. Since you never know how quickly they'll go, why not subscribe, sit back, and relax knowing you'll get them all?

Hi, I am attempting to buy the 2023 Dave's Picks subscription online and the store website keeps crashing each time I hit "BUY NOW." I called customer service and left a voicemail. Thanks.

They are two fantastic shows. You're in for a treat if you can stand waiting to hear them until they're released. 10/2/77 has some great bust outs with Casey Jones and Dupree's. Amazing, well-released tour and this is a really fine addition to the others that have been put out.

Looks like I'm first to comment. I'm speechless, other than I'm unfamiliar with 10/1 and 10/2 Portland.
But 1977 was the year I got on the bus, and I know these will be magnificent shows.

not the opening salvo I had hoped for, but as stated above, a couple bust outs, a cool reason why they opened with Casey Jones, and it's fall 77. Would have preferred (fill in this spot) but I'm down again for another year of the Grateful Dead.

Hi PT and thanks for the response. I am "checking out as a guest." The online system lets me go all the way to the "BUY NOW" screen, but when I hit "BUY NOW," the site hangs.

I have been a DaP subscriber since Vol. 4. Never had an issue with ordering before now.

Nice to have some constants in life, especially the Dave's Picks subscriptions. Just subscribed for the 11th time! (One year I missed and had to go a' la carte.)

Thank you Dave and Rhino! Looking forward to Portland '77 :-)

Got mine ordered but it took quite a while.
Easy enough to make a separate store acct. but it seems silly that we had to.
The order took more than a half hour with many error messages that said try again in a few minutes. Seems like I only succeeded after unchecking "save this card to your acct". It was saying "error in tokenizing" whatever that is. Those may not be connected but that's how it went for me. I too have never had these issues before but we all have seen what a mess they made of the "new" store. I'm perfectly fine with another '77 as the first installment.
Cheers and good luck

I've been watching this forum for a decade or so...and enjoyed the musings of the many kind folks here...
Just a note of gratitude for how lucky we are to be getting these great recordings. I recall driving to the ends of the earth for a good dead tape back in the day. I suspect I am not the only one...and here's a story for you

"The country music station plays soft, but there's nothing to turn off" (Visions of Johanna) - In my old college apartment, I could often hear faint country music in the background on my telephone and even on my stereo during the quiet parts. I wondered if it was tape filler with a low recording level, at first. The locals informed me that it was due to a nearby radio station. So, I called the local country music station and complained, and their all-to predictable reply was "So What?" (a great Miles Davis song, but not what I wanted to hear). I called the local FCC office. I called the Radio Shack store requesting a filter. No progress was made. Soon after that, I took a scenic bike ride of the area. As I stopped on the hill above the station, I gazed down at their obscenely tall broadcast tower with not-so-thinly veiled contempt. It was very much out of place in this small town, located deep in Amish Country, surrounded by open fields and beautiful farmland. But, there was no point in carrying a grudge. I was "tilting at windmills", or more correctly, radio towers in this instance.

So, I loaded up my Toyota with my tape decks, and a basket of laundry. I added a few boxes of Maxells that my friends had dropped off at my apartment, all with tiny scraps of paper attached, each noting their special requests, and closed my trunk. I drove home over many weekends, and copied my Dead tapes at my parents' house, often managing to pick up a few new shows too. I returned with the tapes and my Mom's chocolate chip cookies. I really enjoyed sharing that music and hanging with my friends. I was admittedly a bit less generous with the cookies, but I couldn't resist eating half of them on the way back... That one line from Visions of Johanna will always mean something very special to me, despite the miles I had to travel to feed the dream....sigh....

I subsribeded, one for me and one for my brother. I think for # 46, it will be 2 shows from 1968 , 1969 or 1970, out of Owsleys banana boxes. I cannot miss out on that

So I couldn't get through to order 2023 because the saved password was "incorrect." Right-o. I then asked for an email to reset the password. Did that three times over an hour. Nada. Decided to open a new account and got through, though my charges amounted to 103.98, not 99.98.

So, with 10/1 and 10/2/77, TPTB return to predictably good Bettys, which is fine. 10/2 is said to be among the "recently" returned Bettys, so we're back to moving inventory provided by ABCD Enterprises. Again, nothing wrong with that, but tell me that some agreement with ABCD doesn't play a big role in deciding what we get. I don't like constraints or restraints, though the latter depends on how talented the restrainer is, but I digress...

Looking back at the 50th's of WD and AB, the use of February '71 Capitol shows was pure convenience, as they had long ago mixed the entire run and had them on the shelf. Easy, peasy, just stick 'em on the two 1970 LP re-releases, despite the tenuous or completely absent connection.

Now, if those decisions have allowed time for Dave & Co. to restore the '72 movie we're all hitting up next week, so be it. If it's sheer convenience (read: laziness), I'd be a tad disappointed.

I'll say this: mark my words, I said that Dave's release of his first show -- from an '87 cassette -- was a test run to see if the market would take 80s cassettes and now we have the current MSG box of 80s cassettes.

I guess my concern is that convenience could rule, that DaP's success could breed complacency, and -- I admit it -- I'm not particularly interested in more 80s cassette-based shows. Though I admit that '81 is a kickass year most of the time. (How did Dave explain to Bob Weir about the latter's guitar absence from 3-9-81?)

Guess I'd better take my meds and chill. All things considered, we're awash in killer tapes. And rightly or wrongly, I have high hopes for 2023's 50th release(s). Watkins Glen soundcheck as bonus to remastered WotF (plus outtakes) and a Summer 73 box with 6-10-73 and everyone's choice of five more shows from that long-ago summer.

Signed, Temporarily Mr. Crankypants

kept getting my fingers snapped eating the cheese for an hour before I decided to order subscription through firefox.
Saw where someone suggested that 2 minutes after I ordered. Deadheads obviously process things on a slower curve than most. As for 46, not familar with the shows, but love the unique setlists. Here is for hoping for 2 (maybe part of 3?) shows from 4/69 Arc for 47. Dave harped on the continual winning theme in his subscription publicity page. (Thinking Boston with the Pats and Sox have 4 rings over the last 20 years) Keep in mind, I do tend to interpret everything the Dead Office says to mean a 69 or 70 release is coming down the pike.

Hendricksfreak, any recommendation on the Last Waltz Tour. Looking to go to the Atlanta show in November.
Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson etc.... I heard Willie's son does a mean impression of Neil Young.

Subscribed since the beginning. The choices keep getting better and better on top of all the other nice choices.

Personally I love the show releases as of late and what keeps me coming back.

Getting ahead of myself. Turns out the next two releases are 45 and 46. Told you Deadheads were slow on the uptake; or maybe it's just me. I have been drinking the Thunderbird lately!

I am trying to order the subscription but whenever I go to checkout, it asks me to log in but it doesn't allow lower case letters, i.e the letter "D" shows up as "D" in lower case and a larger "D" for upper case (It never shows up as "d"). So my username and password do not come up properly so I cannot checkout. Is anyone else coming across this problem?
I have tried on my phone, my friend's phone and my computer with 3 different browsers yet it always comes up that way. I cannot contact customer support as when I put my email address in, the same problem comes up.

Woke up to find out that THIS was in my inbox this morning:

"Thank you for your order. We regret to inform you that one or more of the items from your order #**************** has been placed on backorder.
We will send you a confirmation when your item ships. If you have any questions or would like to cancel your order you can contact us at..."

Perhaps this is simply because the actual series has not been released, but this is year 11 and I have never received any such email before. I just hope that it is a part of the redesigned system and not something that will screw up the works - I am really looking forward to those Portland 77 shows!

Peace

Edit: Sent a message to customer service and received this moments later:

Thank you for contacting us!
The back order notice you received was in error.
All 4 volumes from the Dave's Picks 2023 subscription will ship out to you as they become available.

We are very sorry for this error and thank you for your patience.

have said they didn't get one either (DaP 44 thread I think).
All of us have had to create new account for "store".
I never looked, but everyone is bummed their purchase history is gone too.
Some hoping it will come back when Deadnet gets it all sorted.
I do not have faith that will happen. I.T. and this site don't get along.

Some things that seem to have helped me order on the new store:
1. Turn off "AdblockPlus" if you're using it or something similar. Not sure if this makes any difference, but can't hurt.
2. Place your first order on the new store site as "Guest". Don't try to log in as "Returning Customer", but click "Guest Checkout" instead.
3. After you complete your first order, you'll be able to continue & set up a new account with new password, etc. NOTE: Your "old" order history will not transfer to the "new" store.
4. Look closely: The font the store uses when you fill in info uses larger upper case for "CAPITAL" letters and slightly smaller upper case for "lower" case letters.
5. FYI: I used Chrome with no problems. If you do have trouble, as KRELL1349 suggested, you might try closing and reopening whichever browser you're using.
6. I can check "Order Status" for Dave's '23 Subscription from my new account, but this was not my first order on the new store. "Order Status" for my first order on the new store ("Ace 50th"), which I placed as "Guest", does not show up on my new account. To check status of your first order, looks like you'll need to log out, then go the the very bottom of store.dead.net page and click on "Order Status". Then enter the order number, the email address you used to order, and your zip code.
7. Haven't received "backorder" email for any/all of Dave's 2023 subscription. Looks like maybe that's ironed out.

Once we and dead.net get used to the new system, I think this will be a more functional and stable store. BUT gotta get there first. Onward

A lot of retailers actually try to sell more stuff by making it easier for prospective buyers to order. The Dead, or more accurately their heirs and successors on the business side continue to think outside the box, and do their level best to make it impossible. I've tried to buy the annual subscription since last night, and keep coming up empty. Well, I think that I'm coming up empty. Perhaps in a few days I'll discover that I've actually managed to buy six or so subs. Won't that be a festive occasion.

So, welcome back, Sam T. I had never heard of the LW "Tour" as here in Denver, we have a large contingent that puts on two Last Waltz shows every year for the past, mmm, 15 years. They do a righteous job. Thus the new tour doesn't need to stop here, and it isn't, probably because...

For all on the ordering front, I think just make sure you end up with a confirmation #, otherwise you're probably screwed. I will say that, several years ago, I ordered two subscriptions and somehow failed to get the confirmation # in return. Thus, I was not subscribed. I wouldn't count on this ever happening again, but I went on bended knee to Dr. Rhino and told him I'd been a steady customer since 1971 and my buddy had been since 1969. The good doctor remedied the situation, but I only offer that as a story, not a recommendation.

We won't stop releasing 77 shows until we've issued them all. What is this, like the 40th 1977 show they've officially released? So that makes this the 40th best show of that year? There were only 60 shows that year. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

But, when placing the order and getting to the confirmation screen, I then print to pdf the confirmation screen as a receipt until the confirmation email arrives.

Did you get your shipping notification yet for #44?

These are due in two days and I haven't heard anything about US shipping notifications.

Oh, and 10/2/77, does not take a back seat to any show from any era, it is smoking, if you like the Dead.

Maybe they'll release another one to go with the 50th anniversary of Wake of the Flood. One with live versions of Mississippi, Row Jimmy, Eyes and Let It Grow on. If Dave's reading this-I'm only joking.

Two or three '68 shows in a single Dave's Pick???

Mr. Crankypants wants to know!

Meanwhile, HF is trying to chill.

I was thinking a Box of 73 shows that 15-year old HF attended.

Of course, DaP 46 could be 4 CD’s that with a bonus disc give 5 CD’s of glorious Bear-recorded banana box reels…..

Couple of days late on this, but the Dead is good The DL Series 10/26/71 at the Palestra in Rochester, NY has ripping Other One - by ripping, I mean Bobby can barely finish a verse before Jerry dives in with aggressive loud fills (and exits in time for tea). I don't know the show well enough to give any sort of play by play (reason being some tape his that irritates in me in the first set), but I've listened enough to know it's tight and tasty. Mmmm donuts.
