One time I ordered a CD from a store in Texas. They sent it by USPS. It arrived in Chicago where it should have been put on a plane to europe. Instead the USPS jobsworth returned it to the sender in Texas. The reason? On the address label my name started with just the initial S rather than the full name of Simon. The guy was obviously having a bad day, but really, what a retard.

I love my US Post Office! I know I'm the odd duck. Always takes UPS a week to get it to Plano PO, a day later I'll have it.

Yep, Simon, that’s the kind of stuff I refer to, BUT…!, it’s a relatively small town and the Other One is there constantly so they know who we are, know you by name etc. AND, after THEY instructed us to use address flowed by X and your box number, if it was sent other than usps they’d usually not return it. But recently they decided that if we do that, they’ll send it back! No reason, just FU…
Even if the box number is on it, even if they know who you are, if you now include your physical address as per their old instructions, they’ll send it back!
Being so rural we can’t get home mail delivery, and half these companies now use USPS smart post, but often the service/order people aren’t sure how it’s going to be sent so we’re kinda at the mercy of the PO. So being able to include both address and box number helped, now…no bueno!

So PTB, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the straight UPS upgrade option, much appreciated!!

Between the box set and Ryko's Live at the Winterland, (or if you find it Ryko's Live at the Winterland +3),
you have [almost] all six complete shows with Stellar sound! I'd compare it to listening to your old
SB> Reel> CD copy of 5/8/77 and then listening to "Get Shown The Light".

While we're on the Hendrix subject, you can get all 4 New Years Eve Fillmore East shows on the
"Songs for Groovy Children" box. And the Maui show is an Essential as well!!

Thanks!!! think that was it, looks like the chaos it was. Folding chairs, believe no more than 400-500 people there, not a very large room. One can see, a fairly minimal set up. We were about 6-7th row, just off center. Have a digital image of the poster and low fidelity recording, like it was made on a bad mono cassette recorder. Stories I could tell... as high school kids driven by parents, for that show we ate hash because reefer reeked so bad. That made the chicken head tackle beyond astonishing. Music's the best and live music is the very best. Concert Saturday, Bill Cole's Untempered Ensemble, free jazz in a old church with outstanding acoustics. Bill is in his 80s, plays didgeridoo, Taylor Ho Bynum will be there on cornet, played with Anthony Braxton and Mary Halvorson. Next Thursday, half of Mr. Sun, Grant Gordy (guitar with Grisman for years) and Joe K Walsh, mando master in acoustic quartet outdoors on a hilltop farm, pray it don't rain. Saturday week, grand daddy of American music, Jim Rooney hosts a bluegrass concert at his farm on Star Mountain. Jim also 80 something. Might get up to Jay Peak in August for JRAD outdoors.... summer in Vermont lasts about 5-6 weeks, must take advantage.

Spinning 6-10-73 CD 4 first.
Verdict?
Sounds better than any copy I’ve had over the years. The 3rd set of my copies was always lower quality than the rest of the show.
So far CD 4 sounds grate (on track 2).

Hope all the CD’s play fine, they all have scuff marks because they are packaged in cardboard sleeves.

On the tracking page of the UPS app on my phone it asked if I wanted to upgrade to UPS Ground, so I did.
Note: UPS had it in their possession already when I upgraded.

It arrived today.
USPS Slow Post probably would have delivered it Monday, or Wednesday because of the holiday.
It usually takes 10 days to get to me once I get the notice.

Dogon - it should be a great release, this "Door Inside Your Mind" box" My introduction to the WCPAEB was through the vinyl comp "Transparent Day", in the mid 1980's, which is in itself a great album. Apart from that, I just had a cd copy of "Child's Guide..." and a cd of the post Reprise "Where's My Daddy". The new one should be arriving in the next hour. Grapefruit, as well as being a sweet if slightly bitter fruit, is a great reissue label for psych etc from 1966-1973. So far mainly focussed on British bands, though.

Friscokid77 - you've convinced me! I have just ordered the Winterland box - there only seems to be one available anywhere.
I never got that Rykodisc album - again I just had a copy - on cassette at that. The versions I have of these shows are the Reclamation box I mentioned, which seems to feature every note from all 6 shows, and a two disc comp on the Purple Haze label, called "Winterland Night". But both these are unofficial, so although they sound alright, for the most part, they shouldn't compare to the official cds.

I have got that "Groovy Children" box - that is really great of course.
I still haven't got the Maui box - or the L.A. Forum show from 4/26/69, come to that. Reason being....again I've got unofficial versions. The one I have from Maui has a very poor sound - although the L.A.Forum one isn't so bad. I got that as a double, with the Isle of Fehmarn show from 9/6/70 included. I need to get the official versions of these, and will at some point. The Maui shows in particular...tremendous playing - among my favourite live Hendrix music.

01132 arrived here in Central New York yesterday, Thursday, 6/29 at 14:19. lol. Anyway, I upgraded the shipping $19.99 for the year, I figure it'll help with the Dave's Picks also.

A few... or several of the discs are beat up pretty bad already, I was always afraid something like this would happen one day with the cardboard sleeves they like so much. Many of them were just flopping around loose, not to mention taking them in and out seems to damage them furthur. I really can't believe they thought this was a good design idea. So much for the physical copies holding there value... I should add I'm not all that impressed with the whole overall look/design otherwise, and I'm a guy who likes everything all the time.

Mr. Ones was correct. I finally got a shipping notification for the 6-10-73 4CD.
7-28-23 release date was no longer on the store description of the 4CD.
(still no comment section) Then a day later my account showed shipped.
Then another day later I got a shipping notice.
But of course the tracking number is not working.
Should see it in less than a week now if I'm lucky.
But naturally it will travel an extra needless 500 miles in a circuitous route through Denver adding about 3-5 days. Such is life in the Dead shipping world. Not worried at all but, like BC says, a bit frustrating.

YW! Amazing what you can find sometimes, not even sure how I found that, or the search term. Was also researching that hotel. Always had a weird little quirk. Love studying the gathering place of the crowd. Everything from the Coliseum in Rome, to dive bars, theaters, arenas, stadiums, and other places like hotels.

Funny you mention the hash scene. Been meaning to post for years, why not now. My hometown used to have an enormous blonde hash pipeline. Could get an ounce of blonde, gentleman do prefer blondes after all, for around $60. That was late 1970's into the early 80's. Then, the local government decided to bring in a "made" sheriff from south florida, big city. Within 6 months of his hiring, the blondes vanished. A year or so later that pipeline was replaced with new pipelines out of this other southern city, a pipeline of Cocaine. Interesting how this works isn't it. Of course with the Barry Seal incident, which this had nothing to do with, we can see how corrupt and evil our government has become. Outlaw something, then provide those in need. Is it right on or righteous? Get em addicted, then raise price, then develop jar heads to go out and bust heads and arrest. That is why I live a low key life. Live simple, dont pay taxes to feed them. I really miss blonde hash.

Edit: different topic for another day, love the forthcoming concert agenda. Could not tell you how man bluegrass festivals I have attended. We have an awesome little annual fiddler/pickers weekend coming up. Just a slow weekend which I have attended (off and on) since I was young. Draws around 500 hundred fiddlers/pickers for the weekend. Some solo, some groups, some groups made of people that meet there and just form a jam session. It is very nice weekend indeed.

These records have always been part of my life. There is also ( and this is where it gets confusing), an earlier and completely different volume one! Originally released on the Fifo label, Sundazed put it out on cd years ago.

I'd really like to know what's going on with this business. I've been buying boxed sets here since the beginning, and I know from these comments sections that they screw up frequently, but until now I've been lucky. This one hurts a little more because I attended one of the shows.

It's disappointing to read about people finding discs coming loose in thin sleeves, getting scratched or smudged. Most of us paid close to $200 including shipping fees for this collection. WMG took about five weeks to replace a defective disc on my last DaP, those are protected fairly well by their packaging. Why invite these headaches. Local music was huge around here pre-pandemic and is now back to what it was. This time of year, much of it is outside, many small towns repurposed an old church, schoolhouse, barn, what have you for venues that support musicians who would not pull more than a couple hundred folks. Then there's house concerts fall and winter, where small groups of 25-35 plus gather at someones home for pot luck, the host passes all proceeds to the artists who usually stay overnight there. Hash report for Gary (also check your PMs), while in high school in the DC metro area in the late 60s, reefer was pretty crappy, even the supposed higher grade Mexican. Thai stick we saw also pretty mediocre. Good Columbian had not yet appeared. There was always good hash around and it was inexpensive, same range as you noted, usually Lebanese blond or red, soft green stuff from Morocco that was more like pressed kif, Afghani black slabs, all easier to handle, more discreet. Word had it that it came in with the diplomatic traffic which didn't have to go through customs inspections. Thankful that we live in more enlightened times these days, avoiding mention of SCOTUS.

@Steve73: Log into dead.net the store not the comments and check your order which will allow you to track the order. That's how I found out mine was arriving today. I typically get the tracking info well after it arrives if I do get it at all.

#9710 arrived. Anyone else have a rounded corner of the gold box? Guessing mine fell off the conveyor belt prior to going into shipping box. Music ripped fine. Sampling Eyes from RFK on my desktop as I clean up the song format from ripping to ALAC and sounds good with my crappy PC speakers so looking forward to listening with the better gear!

Duece - Regarding artwork, Jeff Smith has been providing quality scans a few days post release when he can get to scan them and emails them out to a bunch of us, he usually gives a heads up here before he sends them out...

I ordered the FLAC files and they came as 192 kHz - 24 Bit, not 96/24 as advertised. That is more than fine with me. But people may want to know because they won't play on a iPhone for example. All files are also present and accounted for in the downloads. I think that is a first. Again, more good news. The best news is that these shows sound great. It was well worth the $125 for 5 great shows in hi def format.

I preordered the hi-res Flac files on May 2nd, yet I'm still unable to download any of these shows. See that folks ordering right now are downloading the shows without issue. Is anybody else having the same issue? Sent a notification email to Dead.net early this AM with no response. Frustrated!

And I've tried submitting requests for help. Maybe I'll order another box and try to sell any extra copies later if I ever receive one.

Dont know I would order another one. It takes time, man, for hippies to get their shit together. I have not ever not received a package. They correct mistakes from what people post here. Relax some. Maybe a release date of 7/10, not over a huge holiday weekend. UPS may be working hard but the laid back gummie people will get to it when they get to it. Now I am not expecting my until around the 10th. Hope to be pleasantly surprised. More than half I receive without an email, so hoping that. And I bet I have only gotten maybe 3 emails total, mostly show up unannounced. Know that is a problem too, but maybe some comfort to relax. OOps double negative

Hey Dead.net - Is anyone working on the downloads not being available for those of us who preordered the digital files? I can login with my user name and password, but the only file in my available downloads is the Ramble On Rose from when I ordered back on May 7. Sent the Support Request first thing this AM, but haven't heard a peep since the automated support request email came back to me.

Is this box sent UPS or USPS?

My tracking number doesn't work. It says it's the wrong number at UPS, USPS and the Swedish postal service.
So I try to enter the order number, my e-mail adress and my zip code but get the answer it's not traceable here at dead.net.

How come there's often some fucked up mess with these orders?

Box came today. It's a very nice box once again. (they do make a nice box). I've ripped them in and spot listened to a couple of cuts. The Eyes from Kezar was VERY nice. The recordings I've poked have been GREAT recordings, Phil seems nicely recorded. This is gonna be some nice listening.

While I'm still waiting for a sign that the HCS Box i ordered Day 1 is headed my way (still nada) got real this evening and picked up tickets for Dead & Co in Boulder. End of (yet another) era. 3 nights. My long shot is they worked up Blues For Allah in the last few days off. Fun and safe long 4th weekend everyone!

Dogon - thanks for the heads up about other WCPAEB recordings. I have just been looking in Patrick Lundborg's excellent "The Acid Archives" book, and that original release of their first album, on the Fifo label was going for 17,000 dollars at the time the book went into print! It does seem to have come out on cd - in an altered form - but even that is hard to find nowadays.

" Markely: A Group" seems more accessible - I have just bought a cd of that for the princely sum of £2.99 on eBay.

Digging around, I have been looking into some of Michael Lloyd's other recordings. An album by "The Smoke" is readily available on cd, and heading towards Daverock Towers as we speak.
Less easy to buy at a reasonable price is an album he made with a band called "The October Country".
There is a humdinger of track off this called "My Girlfriend is a Witch" on the "That's Where The Action Is! L.A.Nuggets 1965-1968" box set that came out on Rhino in 2009. I think I'll have to make do with that for the time being.

This new box , "A Door Inside Your Mind" is great - unfortunate that they have always been off so many people's radar.

The 1973 box is presumably on it's way. That's my Dead reference for the day.

Finally, this box sold out. My order has not arrived yet. The shipping email says USPS will deliver it between the dates of July 1st and July 7th. Only special deliveries on Sunday, July 2nd, and Tuesday, July 4th Independence Day a US National Holiday.
