Golden era Grateful Dead in the most golden city in the Golden State? Yes, DAVE'S PICKS VOLUME 46 features the complete unreleased show from the Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, 9/9/72. Loosen that tie, this ain't a red carpet rodeo - it's the after party that legends are made of. Consistently excellent from start to finish, this West Coast groove showcases tracks that would soon debut on EUROPE '72, solo material from both Jerry and Bob, a riveting iteration of "China>Rider," a couple of Chuck Berry doozies, a bonkers 35-plus "Other One" that hits all the psychedelic highs, and wraps up with a "Casey Jones"/"Sugar Magnolia"/"One More Saturday Night" finale that'll have you wondering why you wore a tie in the first place. Hooray for Hollywood, indeed.

Limited to 25,000 numbered copies, this release was recorded by Owsley Stanley and has been mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering. Oh, and it ships next week so you'll wanna grab a copy while you can.

The Other One is a book junkie, full on needle to the vain…BUT!
Considering how much of a music junkie I am, and I don’t do cans, so overall she’s a good sport, though there are times…ahem
. Issues usually arise from more specific grievances: “it’s too loud” or “oh no, not that phuching Bob Weirdo again” being the most common. I’m fortunate to have different rooms to go listen, but the uninsulated cardboard walls are no match and almost non existent for the wall of sound lol.
But after being happily unmarried for 26 years ya learn to adjust or go bust…
    So tips!
Number one, if she’s getting to read, than I can usually get away with whatever, within reason lol.
If both of us are hanging in the living room I try to pick stuff we both like, though she’ll tolerate some dead. She likes Jer for the most part but is sick of Tennessee Jed after all these years. But Bob, well lol, that’s another story. She’s more sick of Me and my Uncle than even I am so that gets skipped a lot, and if I mute parts of PITD, especially the “murderd cat” part, that helps. The key I find is to feel, intuit or know when I can slide a show in, or when to break out the Bill Evens! Sometimes I’ll pop in some crap I know she really likes, that she knows I don’t like, either just after a show if I feel reparations are required, or sometimes just before I’m thinking of blasting off to soften her up.
Otherwise, it’s best to retreat to the stereo room, but keep it on 6 instead of 11…(ugggg, like having a Porsche that you can only drive in a 30 mph zone)
But sometimes….sorry Tutz. Sometimes ya just gotta let er rip. Fortunately she understands that for the safety and overall well being of the planet this occasionally needs to happen.
Perhaps it just comes down to two junkies tolerating as part of the enabling ; )

Someday, when they put me in some horrible place, and am not allowed to have anymore possessions, I will have to succumb to some nice cans and the sweetest portable rig I can have smuggled in and hid inside my toilet top, cause music is really the best, and life is pointless without it!
So hang in there Mr Ones, we feel yer pain, we are everywhere!
Ps, sounds like you need some cans!

Hard choices amigos, 100 Db of pure crystal clear multitrack dead versus serene but boring communal existence…
When in doubt, happy wife, happy life usually works ; )

I heard my bird briefly last night but not long enough to grab my Merlin app…the hunt is on…

I never went to the Alexandra Palace - although as it is still standing, there is still time. Apart from the Dead's performances there, it is most known to me for the legendary "14 Hour Technicolour Dream" festival that took place in Spring 1967. Featuring many of the new at the time psychedelic bands, and culminating with Pink Floyd in the early hours of the morning. There is a documentary of all this on dvd - sometimes misleadingly advertised as being of Pink Floyd's set. Which it's not - it's mainly made up of interviews as I remember it. Interesting, though.

Seen some damn good hockey, but at times, you can tell with the long season and real grind at the end that there is some real tiredness also. Just my casual observation.

Disney now floating that espn could be streaming only in a few years. I wish I could by a season ticket for the Predators, and maybe the Atlanta Braves as i do not get bally sports regional channels any more. Makes me :(

And Birds, we have owls, doves like crazy, but also Bald Eagles and Red Tail Hawks. With no hunting, their populations are starting to get pretty big.

The complete Winter land Oct 1974 run audio & video, would be gone in a flash! Any 1970 box set that included acoustic material, would vanish! I think they could put out 15,000 units and would have no problem selling out very quickly.

… some sad news which I wish I didn’t have to post, but my dear old friend, artist, Stanley mouse, suffered a stroke last week. He has lost the ability to use his hands to create any more art work. It’s going to take a long time with intense medical therapy. We are all praying for a positive recovery from this unfortunate illness tragedy. I ask all our brothers and sisters here on the farm to Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers and positive vibes for a speedy healthy recovery for our dear brother Stanley mouse. Stanley mouse is the infamous artist responsible for many of Grateful Dead’s “Art Of The Grateful” since the beginning of the band’s career and through out their entire career to date. Thank you everyone.
Have a grateful holiday weekend my brothers and sisters wishing all a rock’n time! Peace be with you

I find this quite incredible, but it's true. Not really sure what's in it for either party, but so what. Forest Green are in the 4th tier of English football and are, by remarkable coincidence, the nearest club, in the top four tiers, to where I live. Obviously I need to go along and watch a game. If you search on Forest Green Rovers Grateful Dead you can see the stuff.

Last year the announcement for the corresponding pick started hitting feeds on July 12/13. So if this year is the same, we only need wait a week to hear the details of DaP 47.

Teamsters from UPS are threatening to go on strike August 1st. This story is not gaining any traction in the media…….YET……..I guess because today is only July 5th. If you read the news though, talks between the Teamsters and UPS collapsed last night, making a strike more likely.
Folks, this doesn’t bode well for us receiving our Dave’s 47 anywhere near on time if at all. Please join me in trying to implore TPTB at dead.net to ship Dave’s 47 either very early, or to use FedEx, or straight USPS this go around. This is not a political rant, this is common sense that should there be a strike, all shipments will cease in place, and that would really suck. I, myself am really hoping that the two sides work out their differences on time, but I’m not holding my breath. The last time UPS walked out, it lasted 15 days. Can you imagine your Cds sitting in Butner or Urbancrest for 15 days? That would suck. Dead.net, pay attention to the news!!!

am with this, totally. They are post-production on it now. WMG, get out ahead of this. PLEASE continue to use post consumer/recycled safe and sound means of protecting discs, not jammed into cardboard sleeves bound by glue that sticks to media.

OK I admit it, I'm a completist collecting these wonderful releases. So Nugs had a 4th of July 25% discount sale site wide, and I scooped up the three download series releases I didn't have. The sale ends tonight I understand.

They aren't bad, some of those tee shirts. I wouldn't mind the one with the lightning bolt on the back. As ever, I would want with long sleeves though - I have the kind of arms that suggest I haven't done a lick of work in my life. I have - but it was all in the mind , what I did.

....I also have thin arms. And long.
Funny thing about that, I'm not a fan of long sleeves. They rarely reach my wrists after a wash.
However, I am asked by shorter shoppers to help them reach the stuff on top shelves from time to time.
I also earn my living with my mind.
It's a terrible thing to waste if you let it.
Speaking of Waste, it's a really good Phish tune.

I hope the next Dave's Pick is from 1968, 1969 or 1970, if not this one then the one after. I would also like to see 2/17/79, 9/11/81 , or 10/9/82 released.

Although I've never been a big fan of Mail Innovations, I've had an absolutely awful time getting my Dave's Picks 46. In fact, I *still* do not have it. Both times (yes, I managed to get a replacement sent) my package reached the closest regional UPS hub; both times the tracking info said it was being transferred to USPS; both times it went no farther. I contacted UPS both times. The first time they said the package was lost, the second time they said it had been given to USPS. USPS says they never received either package. Not the innovations I'd hoped for.

Idk... can lightning strike twice? Or did both of my packages get swiped?

It's been a frustrating enough experience that I feel like it would be irrational to resubscribe, so I guess after 7 years of subbing I will now have to become an a la carte buyer. On that note, if I do that, does anyone know if I can upgrade my shipping for a single DaP? At this point I'd probably pay a decent amount for an option that's going to... no pun intended... actually deliver.

Appreciate the sympathy, Proudfoot! Ya know, one reason I feel a certain equanimity is bc I know I've done everything I could. Our own Marye has fielded my DMs repeatedly (thanks, friend!) and then a week ago in desperation I finally reached to Mr. Dave Lemieux himself. And Dave responded! And he said he'd do what he could to help. Just a few hours later, I had an email from a person at Warner Music, offering me a refund, and a copy of DaP46 shipped two-day.

Now, with that said, it's a week later, and I don't have either. But I have to trust at this point. (edit: I stand corrected. The refund from Warner Music Group has hit my credit card. Thanks, Warner!)

For the future, though, I think Rhino needs to take a strong look at fulfillment. It's not just me; look how many folks have posted here this year saying they have a problem with their order, but they can't even get someone to reply to their emails, usually multiple emails. That's just not ok, period. Furthermore, this may not be popular to say, but I think the price point for a Dave's sub may be too low. Having to ship 4 CD packs per year is what is driving them to find the very cheapest option ("Mail Innovations") and obviously that service sucks. Alternatively, keep current price but give a "+" option that lets you buy up to a shipping method that doesn't suck.

Last night's show was, as Forrest Gump would have said was, "like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get". I don't know what was more fun: the church-like Mr. Soul>Mother Earth on the pump organ, or when somebody yelled "play 'Old Man'", and Neil responded, "ASSHOLE!". We did get an "Ohio" and a "Heart of Gold", and all around, the theme of LOVE shined through.

… from the old banner from Dave, I’d want -1/15/79 Springfield released! Love my 1979! Stay Alive! I would love an early release like 68’-71but I don’t think it will be a 69’ release because of the release of Dave’s Picks #44 being from 69’ not to long ago. Always love 70-71 era. So many dusky jewels waiting to be picked for a future release.
As for an 80’s pick anything from 80-82 gets my bones a shaking! I Love My Acoustic Dead! The music & performances Move me! Would also love a 1985 performance! Oh yeah, that would be primo! As for a90’s era performance I could see a show from 91’ definitely being a pick! But honestly, I haven’t disliked a single Dave’s Picks to date/yet! I love experiencing all Shows & eras from the Grateful Dead! I have faith in both Dave & the Band to deliver the ‘good Ol Grateful Dead’s’ magic for years to come! Have a grateful day everyone! Rock on! 🙏❤️💀🌹

I find that list fascinating. Like of all dates in May '77: why 5/18? I know it has that amazing Eyes but I always think of it as one of the 'off' nights in an otherwise fiery hot month. Or for '80, I'd have thought to see an Alaska show date. And just one date in all of 1990?

....pretty much a one off. The shows before were a week prior at The Frost. Show after were five weeks later in Jamaica.
I mentioned this years ago on this site. I'm a big fan of all three of them.

Yep, some major flooding here, video from spots nearby shown on national news. Let the mopping begin... thank goodness for the sump pump and power remaining on. On a big hill, but next to a pond, so when there's that much rain streaming down, things get very wet. People who live in valleys along rivers have it worse, some rivers have yet crested.

Yep, stay dry up there amigo!
“Don’t just stand there dreaming…”

EDIT: those Sante Fe shows are quite nice!

Looking at video and stills from all over VT and upstate NY, many folks near water courses had to evacuate their homes, doing OK here. Good thing just 4-5 inches, a few spots had 8-9. Being near a large pond, not much above water table, not my first rodeo. Bucket brigade now done, dehumidifier cranked. Full speed ahead with HCS.

Holy Noah's Flood batman, that's some seriously heavy rainfall.

Wishing all those affected as safe and damage free tomorrow as possible.

Wow.

Serious stuff as video clips will show, its been bumped up to one of the worst floods ever on record, shy of the grand daddy flood of 1927. Full extent of damage will take another day or two, good news so far, no loss of life.
