Response to ----- Dave's Picks? Winterland Arena March 19 1977
Hi jondflores, It's Playing in the Tower with Eyes of Fire in El Paso with a Cat here. I think you likely (and hope you do) have some Dick's Pick's discs. To be brief these are generally very good (I have never been disappointed). I got my first, Dick's Pick's Volume three----the Sugaree and Franklin's tower (My favourite - blew me away and I was seriously hooked). Anyway, for me 77' shows are amazing. Dick's Picks Volume 15 is a favourite of mine (another 77' show). Anyway if you can go see the Dead this spring. I only ever made it to one show, but I will never forget it. Anyway hope that helps. P.S. go to www.nugs.net and check out the free stash area for some great dead shows and other great bands (not the best quality recordings but a great collection over their incredible run. I really like the field trip - 1970, I believe). The El Paso and China Cat/You Know me Rider are awesome---actually the whole show is incredible----the music is out of this world and so is the vibe. All the best, Playing in the Tower with Eyes of Fire in El Paso with a Cat

Hello there, My wife and I are Dead-friendly Canadian's traveling to Buffalo to see the Dead this April the 21st. It is at the HBSC arena. Can anyone recommend a hotel or other accommodation for us and or a friendly pre-concert gathering/hangout/bar close to the show? Peace, Playin' (Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat)

Is there a Yoruba / English translation available anywhere for Babatunde's vocals that were sampled onto the Global Drum Album for the song "Baba?" I've looked around but can't seem to find them anywhere. Any suggestions or ideas would be most gratefully appreciated. THANKS!!! :0) ~pamela

but canned music wasn't their forte - live stuff - in the moment was where they shined. There's one show you should definitely get - 10-11-80 from the Warfield You can listen to it here - or download the pieces & burn your own cd http://www.archive.org/details/gd80-10-11.acoustic-sbd.windsor.323.sbef…

    A recommendation...
Hey there, I'm hoping that some one(s) with superior Dead knowledge to me can recommend me some albums similar in sound to Bear's Choice, and in particular the acoustic section of this album. I don't necessarily want complete shows, as I already have a few from through out the career of the grateful dead, and have found that sound and atmosphere prevalent on the first half of the above album most to my liking.

I am just a neophyte folks..not a 'true' deadhead... I bought a CD recently it has Daves Picks on the cover, and, "Winterland Arena San Francisco, CA 19 March 1977," on the back. It's a two cd set. What is this? Somekind of bootleg? Thanks in advance for your help.

My all time favorite Dead jamming vehicle. I've heard maybe half that are listed in the base but I would like to know what folks who also like this tune believe is the best JAMMED version. For the record, my vote goes to RI Auditorium, Providence RI 4/71 Don't decide till you hear that one, there are some killer soundboards out there. Jerry does some AMAZING things during the jam, easily equal to the DEW at Barton Hall.

I'm working on a project where I want to attempt to archive Grateful Dead bootleg lot shirts. I would like to create a print publication as well as a website celebrating the lot bootleg shirt. I would also like to document the stories and lore behind the shirts. I would love to hear any stories about anyone funding their tour by selling shirts, stories from shirt creators, any crazy Dead bootleg story (favorite shirt, shirts tha led to introductions, crazy adventures, etc... Feel free to send me any pictures, stories, ideas, suggestions, etc.. Thanks! Peace.

A long, long time ago, when we listened to tapes, a friend of mine had this great show from (I think) May 1978. Here is what (I think) I remember:
Terrapin > Sunrise > Estimated, which were mind-blowing. Probably Donna's best Sunrise; will bring you to tears.
I'm fairly sure that Terrapin went straight in to Sunrise. But I'm sure that Sunrise went straight in to Estimated. I don't think it was edited that way.
They were playing these tunes a lot at that time, but I've combed through the archives and just can't locate a show with this sequence; my memories may be at fault.

Thanks!

In Deadbase X, the lists for all 30 Sunrises:
5-12-77 Estimated>Sunrise>Terrapin
5-22-77 Good Lovin'>Sunrise>Estimated
1-11-78 Samson>Sunrise>Terrapin
4-11-78 Fire>Sunrise>Terrapin
That's all that have either an Estimated or a Terrapin on either side.
So maybe that 5-12-77?
Cheers

Hey 1st Show!

Thanks for the assist; May 22 1977 is the one. Listening to it right now. You know what's wrong with that show? NOTHING! ;-) Many of the tunes played that night are easily top picks for me.

Does anyone have contact information for the photographer who was shooting family portraits at Laguna Seca in 1988? Today my daughter, who was three years old at those shows, mentioned that the post-show scene at those gigs is one of her earliest memories. I’d love to get a print of the photo that was taken by that photographer. Thanks!

When doing a data transfer I managed to lose all of the 30 Days music I'd collected over the years
I thought I once came across a site that allowed one to download previous years, but darned if I can find it again.
Anybody help me find it again, or something similar?
Thanks in advance.

HI I'm Malena and i would like to know more about the deadhead culture for a college project. Feel free to answer as many of the following questions as you like I'm thankful for every answer :)
1. How would you describe the Deadhead-Communities philosophy and mindset?
2. What is your favorite memory of the community or the concerts?
3. How did the Grateful Dead and the community affect your life and does it still have an impact on you now?
4. What , in your opinion, caused scandals linked to violence or drug overdoses?
5. What would you recommend new Deadheads that would like to join the community? Is there something they should keep in mind?

So as far as I am concerned the Deadhead Community is exclusively an online thing, that started for me about 10 years ago. Consequently it hasn't changed my life at all, although it is very pleasurable exchanging views with other people who listen to The Dead.
