My sister Jamie was an Avid Dead Head. She passed away 10 Years ago. Hanging out with the rest of the band in heaven.
She left me with four signed GD Posters. What would be their collecting status / value. Where would I look for info on this web site for interest?
Thanks, Luke - Gabriel103AJoined:Did you get my PM about not receiving Dave's Picks 43

Did you get my PM yesterday? The site is a little confusing so I was not sure if I did it correctly. I am the person who did not get Dave's Picks 43. If you did not get it can you just email me at jcharney@kprs.com and I will reply with the information that you requested. Thanks.

Hi, guess I'm pretty dumb, BUT, how do I delete a message I have posted? I posted a msg for free tapes, now, the tapes have found a new home, & we don't need to leave that msg posted any longer...Thanx, Timmy
Well, the short version is that at the moment you can't, because we turned off that function because it was creating some really bizarre side effects.
I'd suggest doing what they do on Freecycle (and if you don't know about Freecycle, it's the best!), and just make a new post that the tapes are taken.
I could go back and manually delete it if you're still getting deluged with hopeful emails, though. Just lemme know.
This does point to an interesting problem; if I delete it it might throw off subsequent conversation, and if I don't delete it somebody comes along six months from now and in a wild burst of optimism thinks the tapes are still there... Hm.
Being able to edit our own posts would be the best solution, IMO. Maybe it does the same thing as what marye is describing but most web boards I frequent are able to allow that feature without any problems.
The Dude Abides!
....GRTUD needs that function, STAT! I, on the other hand, am a Doctor of Journalism!
"All energy flows according to the whims of the Great Magnet. What a fool I was to defy him."
that feature was turned on. Unfortunately it seems inextricably linked to the surrealism problem, i.e. posts suddenly appearing wildly out of order. You know, three answers, an unrelated post, and then the original question.
If we can get that pesky little issue solved I think it would be great to restore the feature, though. I'll mention it to the intrepid techs.
contact customerservice@deadnetstore.com soonest.
If that doesn't work, get back to us and we'll escalate.
Is there a forum for single Dead-Heads to connect? The appreciation of the Grateful Dead as a common tie that binds is something I would like to find. More specifically, cute little hippie chicks in Souther Cali? Any suggestions?
for the moment, you might want to try the In Search Of topic, which is a bit more generic than a matchmaking topic but couldn't hurt.
Meanwhile, Iz and I will brainstorm on this.
The out-of-order post bug resurfaces! Erik, the temporary answer to your question is in the response before the question itself. Don't ask...
lama, I'm clueless. I find no evidence of your post anywhere. Post it again, and if you're still having trouble speak up and we'll get the wizards on it.
I looked for lama's post too - weird! it's just not there.
and as for the matchmaking topic....we'll get back to you!
Then we can also keep a running check of those we attended, as well as see the set lists and make comments.
I'll pass the request along. There are a lot of enhancements in the queue, and this may already be on the list, but in case it's not, consider it added.
Hey all you sweet people! Im not sure if this is the right space to post a question of this sort but anywho. My name is Amy, and I have been a long time grateful dead fan, as well as a long time early childhood educator. Having started a family of our own recetly, my husband & I have decided to start a childcare center of our own. I struggled for a while about what to call it, and finally decided on The Dancing Bear Childcare Center. Id love to be able to use the GD dancing bear logo for our center, but Im not sure who to contact and how to go about doing this? I thought you might have some info. regarding this, and would be so grateful for any info. your willing to share! Thanks so much & I look forward to hearing from you!
Amy Jane
First off, Amy --I salute you on your choice of a professional path. I come from a line of teachers myself and hold them in the highest of regard, especially those involved in the education of the little ones. It's truly possible to save lives by getting them steered in a positive direction as soon as it can be done, so major thumbs up to you.
Regarding the naming thing, I would guess that you can, with a few obvious exceptions, call your business whatever you'd like (but of course I doubt that you'd see, for instance, an unlicensed Grateful Dead Auto Parts or a Terrapin Station Petting Zoo getting away with it for very long). I mean, upon whose intellectual property rights does the mere name "Dancing Bear" infringe?
As to logos, we're probably singing a different tune. If I started up a national chain of soda/ice cream parlors, there's probably not a lot that the Coca-Cola Company could do about me naming my shops "The Real Thing" --but I daresay they'd balk at my incorporating the duly trademarked Coke "ribbon" as part of my company logo, whether or not I asked in advance for their permission to use it.
It's just good corporate CYA practice. Suppose I had tainted product in my shops that was making people sick, and that it became a big local and national cable news story, replete with film crews and reporters parked outside of my storefronts --Coke's image would be damaged by association, and wrongly so, which is why they would have their lawyers fire off a cease-and-desist order within minutes of getting wind of what I was up to and why they'd never grant a request for permission if I bothered to ask in the first place.
It's in that vein, but I wish you the best of luck and salute you for doing as many others would not by asking for permission in advance.
I can't remember exactly, but in Fayetteville, North Carolina (home of the 8nd Airborne Division) there was an auto painting (I think!) shop that had a dancing bear as its streetward sign.
Hey Amy,you have to check whether the image itself is trademarked. If it is not, then you can use it as is. If it SHOULD be trademarked, then change the image somewhat on your logo, and have someone paint your logo freehand ie: give the bear a bigger belly, have it doing a cartwheel, add a ball or some child's toy, a trumpet, put a hat or even shoes on the bear...you get the idea. and then it is your own original image (I think anyhow, can research this further though, just to be sure that I am not telling you crap)
this question comes up from time to time and I don't have a definitive answer, but I'll pass your question to the Rhinos. If you don't hear from them, let me know.
The first one was on Steal Your Face, but there are other better versions. I always loved this song as I have spent lots of time on and around the Mississippi River. I like how the song travels down the river as have I. But Bobby never sings the verse about "cavortin in Davenport", too bad. Written by the great Johnny Cash.

Did they just remove the 8/20 "Taper's Section" with all of the reaction and commentary/criticism from the site? So now its "The Grateful Dead, Inc." censoring Dead Heads? How Pathetic! This site has nothing to do with the freedom, joy and honest commerce that was once the Grateful Dead!
Dr. Funky
I still see the posts at Taper's section for this weekFeisty!
I just checked, and the page is still there with 32 pages of responses and no censoring. I am not sure what you are seeing....
I have two photos of the Dead performing from the seventies. I have had them a long time, so long in fact that I'm not entirely sure who gave them to me, or if that person was the same person who actually did the photographing. Can I post them without needing to be concerned about any of these issues, given copyright law, etc. etc.?
"I heard my dream went back downstream, cavortin" in Davenport."
Is that the line you are talking about Hal?
I haven't noticed Bobby not singing this line. He may have missed it a few times, but I believe he hit it more often than not.
Am I missing something?
BTW, DeadBase shows this song appearing in 397 shows.
Peace,
Richard
Golden West, it's generally best to just post photos and stuff that are your own work.
Richard, you are right. Tonight has been Big River Night at this household. Bobby sang "I heard my dream went back downstream, cavortin" in Davenport." in every version I listened to. I think I have to eat crow, Texas crow that is. I was probably singing that verse so loud that I never heard Bobby sing it. And I'm pretty attached to it because I did my fair share of cavortin in Davenport. Glad you are still on the site.
I loved that Bobby and Jerry were always bringing classics like this out (most of them).

Hey Hal,Sounds like great way to spend an evening. Big River is a really cool song which often inspired both Bobby and Jerry to some smokin' guitarwork.
I once made a CD of nothing but NFA from different shows. It was a lot of fun to listen to. I may do that again, with Big River.

Peace,

Hi,
I totally spazzed out and double posted in the controversial Taper's Section. Can a mod delete one for me? Feel free to delete whichever one is worded less eloquently. Heck, delete this post, too!

I can't seem to find any shows from Weedsport Fairgrounds, NY in the archive. Does anybody know why, or am I just confused?
why doesnt the band release more music and videos of shows? This is the best reminder of the magic. I think the ball is being dropped.
If your ascent to the other world or your ascension Back had A Grateful dead song playing what would it be?
Please post your answers to Jaime's fine question here so we can keep this one for site-specific issues.
Thanks! and thanks to Jaime for the cool topic.
How should I best preserve/listen to my bootlegs? Which computer is best? Software needed? Equipment? Ipod??
I'm jonesen for somemore dvd releases, so cool to relive the music and vibe!!!
I have registered and it says I can not post to forums. How can I get this fixed
I think you've solved the problem, yes? You seem to be posting to forums just fine.
Now if you've encountered the message that says you can't start forum topics, yes, that's true. Call it chaos management. But if there's a topic you think we need, send a PM to me or izzie, and we're usually pretty responsive about starting it (or pointing you to where it already exists, as we admit it's hard to get your bearings when you first get here).
Anyway, welcome!
this may be in the wrong section, but my idea, though it would make the opening screen for the forums really long, I realixe...
but is there any chance ALL of the topics could be visible on one screen?
kind of like The Scene area, which has most of the sub-sections listed.
it would help me find stuff, since I can't remember where all of the different topics are, or where they are buriried.
I agree with your idea but don't know if it's possible. It might work better to have it as a link rather than an opening screen (i.e., Click Here for a list of all topics); that way only the people who wanted it would have it in their face. I'll pass this along and see what happens. Thanks!
I've posted info about a couple shows I attended, but just realized that I made an error (right memory attached to wrong show!) How can I correct my own posts?
Thanks,
Glen
