....the Dead will never die. And I'm cool with that, cause they won't........well, whatdoyano. Today is the anniversary of the Dead’s first show in Las Vegas. The Ice Palace '69....heading there now....

And Ace; holy $hit that is a top-notch GD album as far as I'm concerned. That Playin' alone - nice studio work there (and all around).

Kayak Guy - I will say this in all honesty - if it were not for your open and outward kindness in my personal direction, I suppose I would be waay, waay behind here - perhaps not even a presence? It was truly your open and proactive outreach one day, in response to a fairly innocuous (very first?) post from my end that opened this door into these boards. What followed was my own new found intrepidness, realizing the kindness of others, and my own formal introduction into the machinations of B&P's (which of course I had NO IDEA what that meant, you had to explain it all to my naive self back then). During the relatively short time since, I have come to acquire many many 'complete years', piles of shows from other years, and a fulfilling sense of belonging. But, the most powerful thing you instilled in me, which I endeavor to pass along at each opportunity, is the concept of sharing this vast and joyful WEALTH among our fellow Deadheads. Along with kindness. That is what I learned from you. Am i overwhelmed with GD? You betcher ass! But is it debilitating in any way? Absolutely not! I mean, only when it comes to the stalemate of 'what to choose'...then I either just go straight to your magnificent 'entire sets on shuffle across years', or just blindly spin my finger on my ipod to hit a show I've pulled off the HDs. All in all, you are not only the Change Agent in my own personal GD genesis to usher me 'To the Next and Final Level', but you've instilled the right values and mindset in me for this entire endeavor. And for that, I give innumerable THANKS. oh, and a final addition: for your inquiry, maybe the 6/6/70 show as it was a recent unearthing (courtesy a toi) and a gem. As for the Spring 90 box sets - I must say, I had been longing for these shows to be released, ever since Without a Net. When the first box came out, it was awesome and I loved it - and then when the second one was announced, it was over the top for me. Despite the differing audio techniques used - which has never been a counterpoint for me really - I've always enjoyed the sound and the nuance of each performance. I think it's just the 'sound' from this era that gives me immense comfort - most likely because my first show was just a few months later in Summer '90. I do enjoy revisiting each of these on their anniversary date, and today will be zero exception with 3/29/90 - which I had mentioned a few weeks ago that this disc 2 hasn't left my 5-CD changer since the day it was released. In fact I'm gonna spin that epic Eyes right now... Sixtus

One Man

Music Man guitars are sweet. That company was started by Leo after he sold Fender to CBS. Their Sting Ray bass was always a good axe. Then I discovered G&L guitars and I have never looked back at Fenders! They are outstanding and priced very nicely. Leo's last hurrah! Perfect strat style guitars.I currently have 12 in the stable ( various makes ) not counting ukuleles. I bought a Larrivee OM40, and that thrill has subsided. I still love my Martins. My jewel is a 1982 Gibson Moderne in Koa. Less than 500 were made and mine is still mint. Never really been played at all. It's under the bed in frozen status. Guitars are an illness. Along with recording stuff, amps, PA shit, etc. my bedroom looks like a used music store I'm afraid. Hence the bride saying I'm a professional teenager.

I don't play guitar....

....but always wanted to learn. Chalk it up to laziness. That Deadbolt is pretty, but the Ernesto VH3 Brown Burst Koa they offer is prettier imo. I'm not a specialist in this area, but that's the one I would get....

You are fast, People. Appreciate the insights and investigative approaches; thank you. The reviews I've come across seem solid. It also appears to be a legit product overall in terms of the craftsmanship. There are some videos. and it seems to be very customizable. KeithFan - You have a stout heart, friend....I suppose I'll say, despite its' lack of bolt-tips, its a damn cool graphic on a beautiful looking guitar. I assume 'rights' dictate some aspects as well? Its hard not to be awestruck from where I sit. But its an eternal battle of will vs. well, I suppose over indulgence. But, its a thing of beauty and a maker of music so in that way it perhaps gets a front seat and free pass. Oh and GoT is July 16th. It will be a shorter season (7 episodes), but I'm bracing for impact. Then just one more to go. What a tale. And finally (speaking of mammoth tales): The Dark Tower - July 28th. And this one is a bit weird - its not a direct from the books, but sort of, what could have happened AFTER the books ended....at least that's how I interpret it. Sixtus

I wasn't even going to look, because the last thing I need is another guitar -- but I succumbed and wow, that is a beauty. I agree on the upgrades -- I would totally do all of them. That said, the best guitar I've played lately -- by far -- is the Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent model. My wife turned me on to it. It's really just perfect in every way -- hand rubbed oiled/waxed neck, 3 mini humbuckers, 5 way switching, only 7 pounds, fantastic tremolo system, and better tone than any of my guitars. But I still want that Bolt.

i've seen two of your posts in one weekcomplaining about someone's negative comments-guess what, when someone has an opinion that is not aligned with your thoughts,even if it's about someone setting a price for something they selling or the band is slop before pigpen.its gonna be negative.it's their prerogative to say it's not worth it or no thanks.i think it's your emotional immaturity to anything negative or something you don't agree with.you could have left it to-"that's your opinion and i don't agree."instead you feel it's necessary to put someone down.earth without rain is a desert.

Pauses between tracks?

Hi all, A technical issue I'm hoping to resolve: Recently ordered this set, promptly downloaded the CDs to my iTunes collection. Getting 1-2 second pauses between most of the tracks which disturbs the flow of the music. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it? Gareth

It’s most likely caused by a setting in iTunes. Go into the iTunes preferences and see what is listed for import settings, as well as for playback settings.If you still can’t fix it then google it, there should be instructions somewhere.

Recommendations for a Newly Grateful Deadhead?

Newly Grateful Recommendations

You know, Gareth, it really comes down to what you like about the Dead... When I put in the Dead, I rarely want to listen to songs, so to speak. I tend to go for the long, inspired jams. For this, I would suggest the Winterland 1973 boxed set as No. 1, so far... though in general, shows from the 1973-1974 will be your best bet for this... That said, there are gems of shows throughout the years, though I've never personally been impressed by anything later than 1977. May 1977: Get Shown the Light (All Music Edition) is a great collection from this year. I also really love One from the Vault, Sunshine Daydream, & Dick's Picks, Vol. 14... The Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack is an all-too-looked-over gem, too. Finally, if you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a copy of the Pacific NW '73-'74 boxed set while it's still available on this site. When these sell out on dead.net, they price-inflate like crazy to 2x their original cost or more.

Get Shown the Light, the box with the book, was limited to 15,000 copies, I read somewhere.But I can’t find anything on the All Music Edition that’s still available. Can somebody tell me how many of those were printed?

Best digital format?

So, I'm totally showing my newbie-ness, but when the formats are digital, which is the best to download? I'm thinking about uploading to iphone for maximum bluetoothing. Also, is the first selection a CD collection of the four shows? I didn't see it listed behind the All Music Edition, so I figured it must be sold out.

16/44.1 is CD format, so you could convert to WAV or AIFF on a computer and burn CDs if you wanted to, as well as have the digital file on a music player.

The higher resolution files are for a computer or music player. If you wanted to burn CDs from those files you would lose the higher resolution that you paid more for.

I downloaded the ALAC of this digital download but when I import into iTunes it is not recognizing the artist or songs and not creating an album. For the same ALAC download for Pacific Northwest ’73-’74: The Complete Recordings Boxed Set it worked perfectly in iTunes. Why does this download now import correctly? Thanks if anyone knows or can help.

May 1977: Get Shown The Light (All Music Edition)

Since they sold out of the regular box set with all the bells and whistles, and had a huge demand, Dead.Net is selling an All Music Edition that "...only includes the 11 CDs in four folios and a booklet of liners, housed in a simple slipcase."

So, still the four shows, just without the special packaging and the unpublished book. This time, the order went through. Nothing on the website about this also being a limited release -- it's not numbered, but they don't specify if it's another set amount.

Excellent news ! I wonder if they will re-release other box sets in this format that originally sold out. Fillmore West 1969 is the one I sadly missed out on and would shell out for in a heartbeat.

Does somebody have problems with tracking number?

I've purchased the fantastic Lyceum LPs more than a month ago and still nothing arrived.
I've searched for the tracking number done by the GD store on the DHL site but nothing appears.
I've yet written to the customer helpdesk, but I'm curious if somebody encountered my same problem.

Just to state the obvious, they are indeed fantastic records. I am half way through 5/25/72 at the moment - one that no-one really mentions. Probably because of the night after, which is a shame as it's a great show in it's own right. Curious "Good Lovin" - 14min 53 seconds, and no Pigpen rap - he just sings the opening the verses and the closing ones some 12 minutes later. In between we have spot on r'n'b jamming like no-one else.
